Chevy switched the Nomad to the 4-door starting in 1958 because the beautiful 2-doors were not 'volume' sellers. They were "halo" models for the '55-'57 model years for which they were designed for. As top line 2-doors, they were very expensive, and the expanse of glass made them hotter cars on warm days. The fact they were luxurious 2-doors ran counterintuitive to what a station wagon was for, for most buyers. In other words, what made it such incredible eye candy, worked against it in the real world. It was an indulgence even GM couldn't continue. The '58 4-door Nomad continued the 7 vertical bars on it's similar tailgate like the tri-5's, but not after that. The 4-door Nomads were still the top line wagon models, but priced much closer to the regular wagons, and indeed obviously looked much more like them as well.

You definitely know what you're talking about and I very much appreciate you adding to the description and the history of the Nomad wagons. Very nice example of a 1950s traditional Ford family sedan.. Ford was in a process of moving upscale with the longer wheelbase, fancy Fairlane/500 model competing with the traditional mid priced brands, while the 300 with its shorter wheelbase and less luxurious interiors remained very popular with price conscious families.

A true family car, this Ford Custom 300. A low end basic offering and yet looks just what a family can use. This nice representation is a rare one for not many 58 Fords are seen today especially in this condition. The previous 57 model was so attractive that it even beat the iconic 57 Chevy in sales volume. Thanks ML for your insightful comments.

Good Morning 55lincoln, This two door 1965 Chevrolet is a another time capsule. They were a nice design, love the "fastback" look from that period. I would even say this car may have been part of history to the "muscle car " . They built them to survive back then. Love the colour, engine as well as the interior. This is another gem. Years ago I worked with a chap who owned the four door with pillars in white with if I am correct a black vinyl top. It was big, bigger than most cars but it always looked like a limousine. He had five children and no seatbelts so they all fitted into this car without any problems. Not sure if his family still owns this car. Thanks for this video, this is one gorgeous car
