It's gorgeous Emma. On a piece I did at a workshop I had something similar as I had cut fabric into tiny pieces and free motion stitched them down so it became one piece. I wanted to create watering holes (similar to what Aboriginal artists use in their paintings) so I poked small holes into the piece where I wanted them and pushed some blue chiffon through from the back. Fiddled around with the chiffon until it roughly formed a watering hole shape and then stitched it down. I love that piece. Have a great week Emma. Happy creating.

that sounds beautiful and quite a challenge to create! Free stitching is just so versatile isn't it, and fabrics so full of possibilities to express what we want to!

Beautiful texture and such gorgeous colours Emma. I like the thought of a vertical piece simply framed with the raw edges showing. However, the detail is in focus when you use the apertures. Can’t wait to see what you decide. Thank you for the inspiration. 😊

thanks Anne, the detail really shows when we frame it doesn't it. It's amazing what can come from scraps! xx

Such a gorgeous splash of colour! My first thought looking through the hole reminded me of those greetings card blanks with apertures and I could see some of the piece mounted in this way. Otherwise I could see the whole piece framed in landscape on a board without glass and with the rough edges showing - if that makes sense! It feels very tactile. Looking forward to seeing how you decide to finish this ♥

great ideas thanks Shirley, love the idea of a simple board (and the no glass bit!). I often think we should make art for touching, gives art another dimension. 😍

@@StitchandCreate Years ago at a craft fair I bought a kit to do something sort of similar. It had a long piece of washaway and some roving and then threads etc. I laid out half of the washaway covered it evenly with the different colours of roving (shades of blue) and then added the threads etc. I also added some other things frommy stash. Covered it with morewasaway then free motioned stitchingall over it. Washed it to get rid of the wash away and had a beautiful scarf. Your finished piece reminded me of a conceptual art class I did some years ago. We took one verse from a poem (I can't remember what the poem was, sorry). The upshot was a work including mountain backgrounds, a moon, a lake at the foot of the mountains, and two graves of unrequited sweethearts. Over their graves, two trees had grown up and the roots intertwined beneath the graves. The scene was a mid-winter night. It was such an interesting class to do and something so different as you had to work out your own painting and not follow along with a teacher/demonstrator. Have a lovely week Emma. xx

I love your videos Emma and hope for a speedy recovery for you. As someone who is immuno-compromised, I know what it is like to get a lot of colds. Parts of your video really resonated with me. I used to knit and can't do so now due to carpal tunnel issues which I have had operated on but still cannot knit for any reasonable length of time. Another thing with the knitting - quite a few years ago I got my Husband to buy me some Arran Wool whilst he was on a work trip to the UK. I knitted him an Aran pattern jumper which was the most complicated I have ever done. He thought it was too bit. So I pulled it apart and made the small size - you guessed it, too small this time. I said I am knot knitting this again so I gave it to my brother-in-law who it fitted perfectly. Also, you talking about what you did as a child. I used to look after my granddaughter one day per week and we used paint to make houses from cardboard boxes, with curtains, etc from scrap fabric. What she enjoyed the most was playing with toilet rolls and making them into people using fabric scraps and scrap wool We used to have a great time together just playing all day. Hope you feel better soon. xx

Well Emma , that Jan Dawson book is one I have been resisting for quite a while. As you were flicking through it I caved in and it will be arriving soon! I am in the process of thinning out my quilting magazines ,dressmaking patterns , etc as we are moving closer to family and the storage in my sewing space will be a lot smaller. It’s going to be a case of everything in our present house being looked at and if we don’t love it then it will be rehomed / chucked / charity shopped! But it feels quite freeing to be reducing stuff. Don’t think I will be as successful with my fabric although I have given quite a bit to schools and Brownies. Hope you are feeling better soon, take care. ❤
