Funny you should mention the insane model count because I managed to make a beastmen list where one block of 8 minotaurs fills my 500 points of core troops. So if I'll ever play old world, it'll be with 3d printed beastmen because I hate painting troops, but minotaurs are cool and I have plenty of models in my stl library for those.

That sounds like my kind of army lol. I have a couple of those models too, really cool minis. I definitely like the idea of filling out more with 3d printing and proxies, it feels like if the community rallies around that idea and we see some fun stuff come out of it then it will at least stick around, things are looking hopeful at the moment!

I feel like the "thanks for the start, we'll take it from here" is the Blood Bowl community in a nutshell. The rules were kept alive for years when GW just stopped supporting it. Add to that the availability and acceptance of proxy models for Blood Bowl teams. And finally the player run "legal" organization (NAF) that standardizes tournaments internationally (including a World Cup every 4 years that sees thousands of players show up to fight for glory for their country), it's an amazing community. I hope that the Old World folks get to experience the same thing.

I'm one of the 50 blood bowl players. But it does have quite tournament scene outside of gw stores. Last week I played one with over 100 people. But it is a game more played in tournaments and semi competitive leagues rather than casually like a lot of 40k/killteam/AOS are played like. So I think when you're outside that bubble you don't really see us.

Definitely. The Blood Bowl World Cup V took place in Spain, September 2023… 2,254 coaches participated in 9 games over 3 days. A friend of mine went; it was massive. Has there EVER been a tournament for 40K/AoS/WFB with that many players? I don’t think so.

If your spears are breaking you're probably not using the right resin I would say. Things like the standard or water washable ones are very brittle when cured, but there's others that are more flexible, search for elastic or ABS-like or options like that :)

Bretonnian box set costs £155, 30 cadian infantry, one command squad and a commissar is £140. Why does everyone except me think The Old World is expensive? Any 3 Space Marine squads and a leader is about £140.

Yeah I agree. I also assumed the only cost effective way to get an army would be those massive sets. Turns out seraphon start collecting is like 800 points, so I have lizards on the way

People like complaining, it’s weird. Especially for a hobby that retains its value & hedges with inflation, super liquid to get out of. And then further consider most of the people old world is targeting is a more mature developed audience. I spend more on my piano lessons than I pay on this plastic. It’s really just not a big deal for an adult that wants a hobby to afford this.

I have a Dwarf army with two blocks of 20 dwarves each... and only 1 or two are repeat sculpts. There were so many dwarf sculpts made.

Hey guys, regarding 3d Prints /spears Try using different resin. I use a 20/80 Siraya Tenacious/Fast mix and all my spears and models are super detailed, non brittle and flex a lot!

The largest problem I see about the 216 paint set - I still haven't used up more than a few bottles of the paints I already own, after hundreds of minis painted... Model Color, Game Color, Model Air, Speed Paint 1.0, Warpaints, a singular Citadel Mephiston Red, dozens of Apple Barrel, even a bit of Golden... I still use them all!

About the Squared Based initativ. The Magic format of EDH / Commander comes to mind. If GW feels like they sell too little it would be awsome if they just... let the community handle it. Support it with the plastic and pewter but let the entrenched nerds handle the rules of the format. Doesnt feel like the GW way tho. Right now I atleast wish they could say "Once per year we will update the legacy PDFs according to winrates in tournaments and to community feedback. If its fine we wont touch it. If something is never ever taken we might slightly tweak it. Our main focus will however continue to be the core armies" or some such. Just SOMETHING. Damn it GW. Give us some hope and/or hint of leadership over here! Im not expecting 10th edition 40K levels of updates. But a hint of how they will handle the game would be good

During the End Times and for awhile after it I decided to buy all the Warhammer Fantasy Battles miniatures I could not as a child, and got like 11 armies. It was a great time to buy stuff on eBay. And now I have no regrets.

There are some units that you're going to want in 30-40 man bricks like Skeletons or Men-at-arms but unironically this edition is much smaller than previous editions. Even a horde full on I'm just going to summon as many zombies as I can list that I threw together only had 120 models, less than my 5th edition Orks list.

I am tossing and turning at night trying to decide how to base my "new" (highland minatures) old world army. Do I do round bases in movement tray adapters (and be able to use them in more games) that Ive already printed, or make them a "legit" square base and dedicate them to the old world. I just worried about being seen as less legitimate :/

Wood elves got a ton of new models right before fantasy was discontinued. More than half were discarded once the sylvan army came out for Aos. True on skavem, in aos amd they really haven't gotten anything new this entire time, lol, ither than a character here and there or a warband for underworlds. Same for beastmen.

Casey commented on this and I agree that I think it's very likely that Old World is going to mimic the original release of AoS in a lot of ways. Even if the official releases are half-hearted, the community is passionate enough about it that the game will be community led and GW will follow after the fact in a way very similar to how the first edition of AoS played out through the much improved second edition. There is more than enough momentum in the community to keep the game afloat through things like 3rd party minis and events so that even if GW completely botches the releases with weird timings on things or lackluster support with certain factions, etc I think the game is going to end up being a success.

As someone who entered with AoS AFTER WFB was legended (is that the term?😅) i am excited to play TOW because it's a different gameplay to AoS and because it has a cool retro vibe to it. Not bought any models yet as currently unable to hobby BUT soon as I'm able ill be looking at potentjally getting a TOW army together

Man, I miss the early 2000s when Science and Nature and other scientific journals were free to the public. Now not only do you have to pay for access, many of the journals themselves have become pay-to-publish with little or no peer review or really any attempt at quality control. It's a truely sad state. Still, Brent - as the defacto science-based hobbyist, I'd like to see you do a piece on just how dangerous resin 3D printing is for our health and whether basic precautions and PPE are enough or whether the VOCs and environmental pollution from merely spending long periods in the vicinity of 3D printers poses a serious health hazard. I know the chemicals themselves are generally pretty bad, but I suspect we actually don't know what type of exposure levels can be considered "safe". Incidentally I bought a cheap air quality detector from Temu out of curiosity, but a search for reviews afterwards leads me to suspect that it's not fit for purpose. There could be a story there too.

I’ve heard many rumors that the non supported fantasy factions are basically no supported because they are already being renovated by the AOs division of GW. Therefore the “non supported” factions will ironically be getting the most support with new nice kits 😂 if that’s true then there’s a big plus for legacy faction players. Soulblight is a good example, their new models are awesome

All these old players advocating for 2.4k+ tournament standards are idiots. They need to understand that it's more expensive than ever to build full armies from GW for fantasy. I shouldn't expect other players to spend a thousand dollars so I can run my 20 year old 3000 point chaos army. 1.5k should be standard.

Thats why WFB went away. You had to spend so much to buy into the game. It was just not ever viable. With the advent of 3d printing its possible to have an army with out selling organs, but GW wants you to sell that kidney still.. There are better rules. KoW, Oathmark, OPR Regiments come to mind. 9th age not my cup of tea but I can see some being entertained by it. GW really missed the mark. They should keep the round bases and models and then just make movement trays and call it WFB with the new trays. The fact that they didn't that's the tell that WFB is not going to stay around for very long, There was a reason GW got away from Square bases. What are they thinking? a new line of Fantasy models? Like all things GW, it revolves around money.

wow im 5 mins in and the GW hate is just dripping out of the pair of you! Gobber talking about rules that arent even in the new edition and sounds very much like the Horde rule from 8th edition, which he wouldnt know has he hasnt played for 20 years! As for you view on the Legacy factions, if you both had a preview copy, you would have been able to read the lore and see why some factions arent Core!
