Not if you know how to use it in my opinion. It’s 60 bucks now which I’ll admit is not cheap, but it has so much functionality that I find it worth it. Still, if it’s too much, just get trailsoffroad which does gps and gives you best trail info out there.

Moab is not an open OHV area, so it’s critical to stay on established trails. Going off the established trails gets them closed. The BLM closed 317 miles and even tho it wasn’t true, they claimed off trail use for closing them.

Every one of those muddy off shoots is illegal. That's why they're not any responsibly offered maps. But everyone self interpret & go off trail there. Stay on the trail. Don't take any cut throughs. Have respect for the one, single off road forest service road in all of Pisgah's western side or we'll all get locked out of there.

I have a 2014 JK Wrangler Polar edition , 146k miles, no issue other than replacing the starter and an O2 Sensor (now I do very little true off roading with it, maybe once a year). People make these reliability comments out of spite. The Wrangler is as reliable as any SUV out there that is not named Toyota. The new Bronco has issues and the Range Rover SUVs have serious issues.

The JL going down a hill faster has to do with gear ratio and tire size. The TJR in 03 had a nv3550 trans which has a nice low first gear, pair that with 4:1 low range and 4:10’s in the axles with only 31’s it tends to be a lot slower than modern stuff that just isn’t geared as low

@coloradomallcrawlers 9 күн бұрын
Yep, I think Jeep was counting on most new Jeeps being automatics where they could use hill descent to be as slow as the TJ.

@@coloradomallcrawlers alright so now here’s a question for you since you’ve got experience with both new and old. I have a first year Rubi, 2003 TJ. I also have a 2012 JK sport. The TJ has been fun it’s my third one but it’s rust free and up here in Canada that’s rare. I find myself afraid to wheel it and ruin it so I just don’t drive it. Should I build up the JK a bit to wheel? Are new Jeeps as good as the TJ was driving them off-road? I could put a rubi t case in it and a mild lift with some 33’s and I think it would be a decent little weekend warrior but I’ve got no experience with these newer Jeeps off-road, I’ve only ever wheeled TJ’s and XJ’s. If you have any input it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you The Ontario Jeeper.
@coloradomallcrawlers
@coloradomallcrawlers 8 күн бұрын
I love wheeling them both! As someone trying to save a TJ as I couldn’t save my 2000, I get where you are coming from. First off, I loved wheeling my 2012 JK and it’s a worthy candidate for a build. It’s a bit wider, but still very capable. All the early videos on this channel were filmed with my 2012 stock JK Rubicon. It was often doubted by new Jeep owners (in 4 doors) since it was stock, but it never let me down. Put 35s on it and it’ll go anywhere. Ok, about the TJ, I get wanting to save it, but it’s a Jeep (I have to keep telling myself this too). My thoughts are use it, but wash it immediately after wheeling. Also, get underneath and coat the frame occasionally. Both are fun to wheel and I like picking between them for different trails so that’s why I say use both. Good luck!

..Nice look at the pass .... New off roaders need to take a look at maps and info before driving any designated 4x4 pass ,, as some are one way only ..... and passes with tunnels carved in are usually signed as height issues ,, meaning NO overhead campers .. Would not be much fun to back down a pass like this ... Stock vehicles that are commented as "can do" doesn't mean should do .... Anyone getting into even designed trail off roading should have vehicle with reasonable ground clearance and a winch with basic recovery gear ,, i.e. straps,, chains ,, a few receiver connectors ,, a couple shackles ,, 1-2 snatch blocks for winch cable ,, shovel and extra pair of underwear ... .. And HEY ,, if you feel better doing a 3-point turn DO IT,, even a 47- point turn ,, just stay on the mountain !! ....

The TJ has 30.5s on her yet the lj has 33s, lol that alone says all you need to know. put some 33s on the tj and do it again.
@coloradomallcrawlers
@coloradomallcrawlers 14 күн бұрын
That would not be apples to apples because this was stock vs stock. No TJ came from the factory with 33s… I know because I bought three of them from Dealerships. If you knew Jeep history, you’d know the lunatic fringe wanted to put bigger tires on the Rubicon, but corporate said no. You TJ guys are funny… so worried about one loss in a category that on paper it loses too (10.2 vs 10.8), but unaware of the final score.

I think this video is so bias, he is not comparing apples to apples. for instance, he didn't drive the 2 jeeps the same on the first challenge. The TJ didnt have front axle locked, but the lj did, how can you say thats fair. Also you were babying it lol The TJ is by far the tougher stronger of the too options. Do they have diff size tires?
@coloradomallcrawlers
@coloradomallcrawlers 14 күн бұрын
Bias towards the TJ since it won? It’s a JL, an LJ is an extend wheelbase TJ. Also, the JL and JK have stronger axles than the TJ. I’ve owned 4 TJs, 2 JKs, and 1 JL.

I think the KK looks even more like the Dakar concept you showed. It takes a minute to get used to the extremely square KK, but they can actually look really cool when built out. I really love the traction technologies Jeep is able to stuff in these below the radar wagons. Even my Patriot was surprisingly capable! And you can’t really beat the Liberty price for budget build worthy. I’d like to discover why they changed the name plate only here in the States. I enjoy finding offroad clips of these rigs in Australia where of course, it carried on the Cherokee nameplate. 🤙🏼

The dakar concept is a TJ concept. It’s rounded on the back end like the hard tops were. To me, I feel the KJ looks more like the concept which would make sense for the era it was produced in. Still, I can see where you are coming from tho.

hello from the province of Pontassieve, in Florence, Italy, I have a Suzuki Jimmy 4x4 with m13a 1.3 LT petrol engine, 2001, all original, which I use for off-road on rural and forest roads, and I see that my Suzuki Jimmy 4x4, even if ! it is original in the countryside, on the dirt roads of rural farms and on the forest roads where loggers often take the wood from the forest with their forest tractors, skidders and forwarders, it feels very good on these tracks, even if it is all original and not ready for extreme off-road, but with the right mud tires it copes very well with off-road and forest roads, even in the presence of mud !

We just did this trail a couple weeks ago in both a bone stock 96 cherokee with 28 inch tires, and an 06 range rover sport with 32 inch tires. The right side line is much more dug out. With a lot of careful guidance and a little wheel spin we made it over. Obstacle 2 was a little more difficult, but we managed it okay. The rest of the trail was relatively easy in comparison. @coloradomallcrawlers
@coloradomallcrawlers 18 күн бұрын
If wheeling alone, I use lockers based on experience to not get stuck. For these guides, I keep them unlocked so people with non-rubicons can have an idea how they will do. Modern vehicle offroad traction control is actually pretty good to not need lockers often. The TJ rubicon is better for showing lockers on vs off. Sometimes not using lockers in that TJ means it’s not going over the obstacle. Once I lock it, it goes. A option for non-locker vehicles is giving it a lot of throttle, but you increase your risk of breaking your vehicle.

Aired down, they were 29.5” tall. I never slipped a tire. On Top of The World trail, we had JKUs and JLUs on 40s making fun of us until we climbed every obstacle. Same thing happened on Hell’s Revenge and Poison Spider. TJs are great Jeeps and just as capable if not more capable than modern Jeeps with a competent driver behind the wheel.
