You know you're using the wrong part of the back gauge to bump your work? Your material should be on the shelf and against the back ledge of the stop, not just taping the front. Imagine your press break was industrial manufacturing size and you wanted to bend a sheet of .25" steel at 32" and its 40" wide, you wouldn't just try to suspend it in the air against the back gauge. you would need to be able to rest it on something to get the most accurate bend and youre not killing yourself trying to hold the material until the jaw clamps it in place.
@RathaSochenda8 күн бұрын
not sure if you missed it but the lower face of the back gauge is only use to bend parts that are 1" are less from the center of the upper die. The overhang you get from bending that close is actually support by the lower v die. Now of course if I'm bending a part further back > 1" of course I'm going to use the upper face of the backgage which has the bottom face to support/aid the sheet material.

Why you get the Langmuir press when yours does so well?
@RathaSochenda16 күн бұрын
I have a few projects that require 4 bends or more in the part. I’m paying for the efficiency of the Langmuir. I love my homemade press its open up more doors for me thus giving me resources the upgrade when possible. I’m a big believer as you grow so should the things around you
@michaelcahill291216 күн бұрын
Why do you need all that security when you have that guard cat? Nobody is going to mess with it with it around. But seriously, you could just cable lock one trailer to the other. That way if they try and steal one, they have to drag the other down the street. Not exactly inconfuggingspicuous. Opportunists will pass over it. Pros won’t bother. Overall, great job though!

I love that anti-wobble wedge but wouldn't it be easier to just drill a hole on the bottom of the receiver and put a bolt in it. I haven't tried it yet but I'm thinking it would work. I guess it's time to put it to the test
@RathaSochenda13 күн бұрын
This is for people that don’t want to drill there factory recievers
@WeldersforJesus13 күн бұрын
@RathaSochenda I was actually going to go with the wedge afterall because I just really like that idea better but I'm making this swing away hitch for my friend and his truck doesn't allow it he has a tire on there that won't come off so I just got one of those anti-rattle hitch plates. But for my own personal one that I make I think I definitely will use that wedge. Also I think the way you presented everything was just really awesome.
@just_another_Joe19 күн бұрын
I’ve also avoided cutting/drilling into the framework of my trailers. It may not seem like much, but those intrusions can have long-term unforeseen consequences. I used to live in Washington several decades ago. Watch out for that rust! Don’t knock yourself on your theft-prevention measures. Trailers get stolen all the time. I run separate locks through all wheels, lock a 2 inch steel ball inside the coupler, lock the safety chains so they can’t be used to drag it away, lock the (customized) rear jacks in place with the wheels off the ground, and keep the trailer behind a fence and parked in a portable garage so it’s not visible unless you’re inside it. Yeah, it might be overkill, but I’m hopeful that a potential thief just might be incentivized to look elsewhere for their next target. Love that you’re having your kids involved in the process! Great work!
