First; I absolutely love you guys. Good on you for keeping the old school D&D going. As to alignment; I submit to you that there's another way. There's a way to be stricter and yet, have more breathing room in each type of alignment. You don't have to act crazy if one aspect of your alignment is chaotic. Think of it like two axes (plural axis, not two implements used to fell trees). On one axis, you have law and chaos. Law merely means disposed toward order. Chaos means disposed towards disorder. All that you know for sure about a chaotic good character (aside from their goodness) is that he is disposed towards disorder. This may manifest in any number of ways. He may be personally a disorganized mess. He may be principally against the imposition of anyone else's rigid system on his actions (think libertarianism and anarchism). Similarly, all you know for sure about a lawful good character (aside from their goodness) is that he is disposed towards order. There's a right and a wrong way to do things. He may be more or less tolerant of other people recognizing what he views as the correct order. It blows me away when I hear gamers try to say that paladins have to follow evil laws because they're lawful good. The paladin believes in an order, but if he believes in a particular manifestation of order, he must also stand against other manifestations of order when they contradict the one he knows to be true. This also makes chaotic neutral characters playable. They don't have to be crazy. They can be ambivalent on the issue of morality while being against other people imposing any kind of order upon themselves. They just want to do whatever they feel like doing, when they feel like doing it.

I think the problem is in the damage caused. In particular, I use 1d12 for projectile damage and in my system rolling the maximum number on your damage die is critical damage. An archer can also use an action to aim, gaining advantage on his next attack roll. Keep in mind that I use my own system and not D&D, but I think the watering can be adapted without any major problems

@@StevenRowell-x7k Hi Steven - thanks for getting in touch with us. This video was filmed several weeks ago so all was still well when we scheduled it to go live. The problem we encountered only occurred in the past week. We’re still trying to figure out what to do moving forward. We’ll let the Patreon supporters know our plans as soon as possible. At the moment we’re not accepting Patreon support - would be very scam-like on our part to do so when we’re not sure of our plans. That’s also why we gave a refund of the most recent Patreon support.

I agree that some magic items need to be touched to be activated. Or at least be concentrated on. Some items like wands need to be described such as "it is bone and has a large crystal on one end". So you know which end to point at the bad guy and there's no mistakes.

the info on climate and terrain types wasn't so out of place in the years before the web and wikipedia. Plus little-ish kids were buying and using these books (bought the 1E PHB when I was 10) and geographical education isn't a particularly strong feature of the American education system. But yeah, looking at it as an adult, feels like a cash grab! Knowing the history and financial position of TSR by 1985, Unearthed Arcana and every book afterwards was pretty much a cash grab. Thanks Lorraine Williams and the Blume brothers!

"It was not" (2 weird symbols) "idid not"? I'm more into Norse runes then Saxon runes ), I had to look up that odd "O" rune (the Odal rune ᛟ looks very different and I only know the 2 Norse classic Futharks even if the Saxon is pretty similar). What does that T-shirt really mean? It was not, I did not what? I do like the T-shirt lot though. :) I do like how well those maps look. Me personally use Dwarven forged instead though, it is a lot more expensive but it's 3D tavern kit is great. I did get the "Inn of the welcome wench" from Hommlet perfectly in 3D with it. But it does require you to have both plenty of space and the money to get it all. I could see myself trying this out for games we run online with Roll20 though because this seems a lot faster then me editing some floorplans I have lying around in Paint, that can easily take me 10 hours. At my place, we will always use full 3D with metal miniatures, Hexon terrain for large scale and Dwarven forged for houses, dungeons and caves. I do think floorplans and maps are important. Managing combat without floorplans gets messy and maps really helps fleshing out the world. I also tend to have portraits for every important NPC (as well as some not important so it isn't obvious who is important or not, if there is a portrait of a single shady looking guy and no one else, figuring out who stole the Barons gold would be way too easy). Visual aids just helps the players imagination and makes the game more fun, it does not replace it. Sometimes I make an entire dungeon in 3D, covering up the places the players can't see or build them on a metal plate so I can bring the next part as the players reach it. Other times I just quickly set up the room in question, I'mm a bit limited on natural caves so I don't have enough to build a full dungeon on it. Most players really appreciate any visual aid you can give them. I am particularly interested in the city maps, those are a pain to make unless I steal a pre-made and edit it. I will have a look on Inkarnate.

Nice to see Alex has been paroled from his rendition at the local Motel 6 for today's video. I did miss his face palm intro though. Inkarnate is so pretty. I had to tell my multiple personalities to shut up so I could concentrate on this video. They do come in handy when I am trying to multitask though. Wait, TMI on the privies. I heard that snicker Alex. Soft lighting in the privies is a nice touch though. Wait is that Alex's new shirt again? How often does he actually do laundry? Best $3 he ever spent. Never understood why Europeans call the 2nd floor the first floor. I hate it when the furniture attacks you. So AD&D 1e. Who doesn't love a forest on the 3rd floor of an inn? Nice call back to a previous video. Excellent questions. I did seem a bit to random back in the 70's. Thinking holistically makes for a way better campaign. Damn an old video. Squad Leader was a great game! Was watching 2 of my friends play. The one seemed to be doomed saying he couldn't see a win in this one. That is until he set the woods on fire! Totally changed the odds for him forcing the enemy to retreat and creating a smoke screen for him to move his troops into position. Most exciting game ever!!

And it surprised me that throughout all our playing, there was hardly a single time that anyone would take things like Troll Blood or Hippogriff feathers or anything else that could be used for spells, potions or scolls. I didn't play mages but my thief characters should have snagged this stuff to sell in towns or to any mages they came across.
@CaptCook99917 күн бұрын
49:12 the potions thing is a neat idea. For characters that make potions there is already a chance that it will fail and be a Delusion Potion of the type that you are making. You could use that chart instead if you were so inclined. And drinking multiple potions could be disastrous if you use the Potion Miscibility Table in the DMG.

22:51 If you want to destroy magic items all you have to do is remember that they also need to make a saving throw if the player character fails their saving throw versus an attack such as a fireball or lightning bolt or dragon breath. We lost a ton of stuff when 3 characters failed their save versus a Black Dragons breath attack. We must have rolled saving throws for a half an hour. And remember that if a container fails then everything in it also has to make a saving throw. Potion bottle falls out of a pouch, save versus normal blow. The same can be said for when a character falls. Stuff breaks!

I’m of Maltese descent and Malta is a great place to visit for any historical student. You have the two Great Sieges - 1565 and WW2 is seen as the second great siege. If Jim visits the Cathedral of St. John (which he should) he we walk on the grave/tomb of one my ancestors. The whole floor of the cathedral is made up of graves of knights. I recommend to anyone interested to read the The Great Sieges of Malta by Ernle Bradford which is a great account of the war between the Knights and the Ottomans. Just as they were stopped at Venice by land, the Ottomans were stopped by sea at Malta. Both battles saved Christendom and the West from becoming Muslim.
