I have a 68 Coronet with 318. Had it since 1979. Prior to me owning it; my mother owned it from 68 when she bought new to 79. Still has the original cam, cam bearings, rods, crank and crank bearings. Only swapped out the oil pump, valve job on the heads, Holley 500 cfm 2 bbl carb ,dual exhaust and electronic ignition. Has 348, 000 miles on it. Does high 15's in the quarter mile. These 318's are tried and true engines. Very under rated. Most say, pull the 318 and put a 440 in. Yes, very true. However, I never did that and was always happy with the way engine runs. Pulls the Coronet well.

Will a 318 stroke to 408 or are we mixing up a 340 or 360 to 408?

FRONT DRIVERS SIDE HAS 4 HOLES ON THE 318 AND 340 HAS 3 HOLE MOTOR MOUNTS

The 318 has four holes on the bottom front, the 340 has two holes. What are the two extra holes for.

Used to have a 77 power wagon 3/4 ton with a two barrel. Not a racecar by any means but it would fire up in 20F weather no problem and she ran smooth as silk.

I agree with you, it's always thrown me off how much people criticize the 318 because it was a little small on the displacement side but it's not much smaller than Chevy's 327 and bigger than Ford's 302 which get a lot of respect performance wise, 318's are pretty much the 383's of the small block's for Mopar guys but they have some serious potential.

A 4 cylinder Camry can spank a pro charged vette or any car if you put enough money in it. big deal.

They are bracket racing and it looks like they are only doing 1/8 mile not the same as straight up drag racing

You can instantly tell witch one is the inferior 318 by looking at the meat between the bores, you can easily see it from the top of the block.

Another 318, easy decision.

Cool car but 318 on the block doesn't make it a 318 CI. You don't have the needed parts to make 600hp with a "318" but still a clean car .

A 440 isn't my 1st choice they often window.

A 440 in a ford is worse than a 460. The 460 is a stronger engine

The engines I've seen blow up alot are cracked 440 blocks from detonation and cap walk.
