Smart people are still using Windows 10. In fact, if you do not ever have your computer on the internet (online), you can use any version of Windows you want. The computer that you use every day does NOT have to ever be online. I will post a video about successfully doing this on my channel soon. 😃

When Win 7 ended so did my uses of Windows OS… when you leave Microsoft windows, your computer knowledge expands tremendously, I’m glad Microsoft Windows got so proprietary and greedy. I’m better off from it 🙏👍🤩

Unfortunately, Roblox Fortnite won't run on Linux. This is a major problem since my kids like those games. But they'll have to do without if I'm forced to upgrade their Windows 10 box to 11. I use Ubuntu Linux on my other computers. I tried using WINE and it sucks.

For common software alternatives: DarkTable = Adobe Lightroom Gimp = Adobe Photoshop LibreOffice = MS Office For coding, VS Code is a great editor that has many plugins for all sorts of things like remote debugging. VirtualBox runs well to run virtual machines and is another way to access Windows software if you just virtualise your Windows machine. Beware of licensing. As for terminal the most common is bash but there is also: sh, tcsh... In fact, forget those, just use bash. But be careful! I have Ubuntu Studio as I'm trying to get a virtual drum kit working with MIDI over Bluetooth. There are a few audio platforms on Linux to be aware of, ALSA (device driver), Pulse Audio (audio server), Jack (also a server) , PipeWire (the newest and apparently combines all the goodies of Pulse and Jack). MIDI support in Bluetooth must be compiled in separately, ie, not there out of the box but must be rebuilt with MIDI capability switched on. I'm still playing around with this but don't let me scare you off, there are many useful videos on KZbin to help with this, just make sure they are current as the audio landscape is evolving quickly.

Gimp doesn't hold a candle to photoshop. If you use PS for light editing once a month then it'll be good enough but for anyone who actually uses PS, gimp is pathetic

You'll be a pansy if you do. Linux is a rabbit hole for the average user. Unless you are a fast talking computer geek, you will regret it. I went to Zorin Linux and found I could co nothing like I could in Windows. The terminal is a whole learning process in itself. To use most of these apps you have to go into the terminal and figure out the commands. Imagine doing that on Windows. Windows just works. I am on my way back to Windows, but Limux has so taken over my hard drive that I can't even use a USB flash drive flashed to Windows because the hard drive is no longer NRFS and there is no way to reformat it to NTFS even in the BIOS. Do yourself a favor, unless you plan to become an IT expert, don't do it.

The first computer I converted to Linux was a laptop that couldn't handle Windows 7 and I moved it to Linux Mint. I loved it! That laptop is finally starting to properly wear out, but I got like 8 more years out of it. Next computer was my desktop fairly recently, which at the time was dual booted on separate drives, went all in or RHEL 9. That was a painful transition, but I've pretty well sorted it now. In fact I'm on that computer now. It no longer dual boots, I built a windows PC specifically for gaming and moved the windows drive. The more I hear about the new Windows spyware the less I want to use it. I'll have to try setting up some games on Linux. Thanks for showing how!

Just install Arch! I’m kidding, don’t do that unless you know that you want to do it and know what you are doing (yes, I run Arch on one of my computers). How did I get to the point of installing Arch, well I tried Ubuntu and lost interest pretty much instantly many years ago. Then I made a more committed effort to try Linux, and ended up deciding between PopOS and Mint, ended up going with PopOS (which I still run). Note that I have also played around with Fedora, Kali and Debian in a VM. Then I tried Garuda (which is Arch based) for my second Linux install, loved it, until it kernel panicked mid system update and I ended up with a no boot situation. So I installed PopOS on that computer too, as I want my computers to be stable. But with that I decided that the next one would be Arch (believe it or not, but Arch should be more stable than Garuda, as Garuda is a beautiful mess of different repositories, while Arch isn’t).

I purposely disabled TPM 2.0 in my BIOS so I couldn't upgrade to Windows 11. With Microsoft's PC Health Check software it says my PC isn't compatible. Even tho My 12th Gen Intel CPU is.

isn't this stuff off by default unless your pc comes with copilot+ compatibility? just curious. i'm on linux and made a windows 8.1 vm with my old install disc. i just think it's easier to use... do all my web browsing, managing music/pictures/documents and a few other things in linux and then for bd rebuilder and dbpoweramp i just run them in my windows vm and it does fine...

For absolute noobies... just use Fedora Kionite. Indestructible and supports Secure boot, gpt formated drives as well as UEFI only Bios setting. If you install Mint you have to disable all this wich means the Enduser will have to fiddle around Bios settings wich is not recommended for absolute Beginners. Fedora Good,.everything Ubuntu bad.

No one should be using Andronix, it's dead, broken outdated and abandoned. Learn to setup things properly with hardware acceleration in termux directly and with a proot-distro.

They are using the government approach. Keep asking/putting it on the ballot until it passes. Reword it, repackage it, market it until it gets passed. It's like when the city council tries to rezone your area. They'll just keep asking.

And if all else fails, quietly insert it somewhere way down the line in a non-obvious place with something else that you will likely want on your computer. Pork.

Windows is just a piece of shit, It forces everything either you want it or not. for Eg: if there is notification for update then they remove the shutdown, restart button(update and do whatever shit you want). You cannot remove ms edge from your PC. After paying for it, still you cannot decide what you want to keep and remove from your PC Then what's the point in paying for it. Yet Linux(any distro) may not be the best option for non-CSIT till the date. So, we CSIT background people have to work on it to make it more user friendly until then, Windows is going nowhere.
