I cry to know when I found out that Eugene Mumford died in 1977 at the young age of 43 just up the street from me in Los Angeles at Vermont Knolls care home . At that time I was 10 years old and if I was introduced to the Larks and Dominos material " My Reverie" " Stardust" " Stolen Love" ...ect , I would have been there singing to him everyday after school and let him know how much he was Loved !!!!

This was surprising. As a few folk have mentioned- Ole Man River is a killer version. I have a later 45 by the too- a Cover version of Ral Donner-You're Skies of Blue. What a record, and killer harmonies and harmonica. Greetings from Scotland... Hari

I would have to go through my old notes. I believe it was 1998. He was 59 when he died of a heart attack. There is no online obituary or SSDI record.

How does being the oldest in the group steal the writing credits from the younger writer?

Cant listen to tubes like this cos it just reminds me of 911. The day hell on earth arrived.i know im not american but it was always my dream to go new york. Jazz clubs yellow taxis like the films i grew up with. My family was from long island 3 generations ago....but 911 my dreams came crashing down. And life has never been the same.....

I had bought the 45 after hearing it only once on the radio back then. The record had just come in to the store. Doo Wop in general had a deep effect on me and still does. I like all the PBS shows that paid tribute to the older singers.

I just saw them this past weekend in Dearborn, Michigan with the Coasters, Skyliners and La La Brooks. It was an amazing show. I wish I had seen Charlie before he passed. Not sure who the lead singer was this weekend. I thought it was going to be Jeff Hall but it wasn't.

The 1st song I ever heard by Willie and The Harptones was "Why Should I Love You" back in the 1950s, and I have never stopped listening to and enjoying them. It's a shame they never had national distribution with their records. Willie could sing a shopping list and make it sound romantic.

The doo-wop era was the best era for music because the songs were all about love. Good love, lost love, new-found love, sad love, unreturned love, looking for love, etc., plus all the uptempo songs were all danceable. Unlike later eras, every performer appeared on stage dressed to perform for their audience.
