Any culture can be accepted but one thing I can’t accept is animal cruelty, even though they say they worship these animals this is cruel. Taking their fangs out it cruel to begin with but in a remote area like this? Even worse. Plus these poor animals being shook around and being throw. I appreciate they are stopping the deaths of snakes, but they don’t need to hurt them in the process. My heart goes out to these poor animals.

For the record, wood ash does not “pull out” bacteria. It is a caustic substance, which can kill bacteria and cause damage to the skin. Medically speaking, this practice is unsafe because the environment, tools, skin, and hands are not sterile. Ideally, the razor would be single use, soaked in antiseptic solution or boiled, hands would be washed and gloved, skin would be rubbed with alcohol or iodine, and the ash would be sterilized - mostly just by keeping it separate from other contaminants. As it is, there is risk of infection especially in the deeper cuts. None of this is a condemnation of the practice, btw. I’m aware of the type of tools available here. This is a hypothetical for what would make this safer and less prone to complication that might ruin the scars.
