Multchummy is very nice if you blind second, since it's basically a better upstart goblin. It draws you more cards, you get the draws on your opponent's first turn so you can draw into hand traps, and it doesn't conflict with pot of prosperity. Tenpai will likely main 3.

People that complain about ritual beast turns being redundant must not remember the first few tournaments when fusion sub zoo was the best deck. People derping around trying not to forget the combo to draw cards forever. People speed ran those combos towards the end of the format so at least that got better

I really liked the super nimble mega hamster reprinT, it was hitting $20+ for edison. I hated that they reprinted Sol and Luna, NOBODY WANTED THAT CARD AT ALL.

My first thought about the set list was "this is pretty underwhelming", my second thought was "i want half of these cards in colllector rare". I agree that the set is good overall but the pricing change is annoying.

I think this set is the reason Omega, Anti-Spell Fragrance, and to a (presently) lesser extent Abyss Dweller are still legal. Hopeful for more cleanup on the next F&L List. Really happy to see Alt Art I:P Masquerena get better treatment.

Thank you for mentioning how the Trident situation hurts everyone. Cards being overpriced until they're suddenly worthless is a huge pain point for Yugioh's printing scheme for me and one of the reasons I stopped really engaging with the game. If I want to compete I'm going to need to spend but if I spend I'm going to need to sell because I don't want to lose hundreds on a hobby where timing trades to "get out" is so common. Having to essentially dump dying stocks when you smell a reprint coming is one of the worst things Konami reinforces with their extreme playable supply constriction since it necessitates the boom in supply a year later which always makes early adopters lose.

Great video! Something that doesn't work for me if the Life being the Resource. It feels like it will always be a razor's edge of card balance. Because a direct attack has significant value in this system compared to others, it seems like games will boil down to taking the lead and then just coasting while your opponent needs to "overspend" to get back into the game/parity. It means you can also "overspend" as the winner to just keep the lead. It seems like card design is going to need to fairly swingy to make sure the game appears to be even in a match. Do you have any deeper thoughts on their life as a resource system?

Pokemon said they'd announce their worlds dates at the end of the European Championships last weekend as a way to get people to watch the closing ceremony. Yugioh could 100% say "Raleigh is the last event of the current format, watch til the end of the YCS stream for a banlist" and everyone would be watching.

I really like the list, maybe could've included some more targeted hits at degen strategies, but hitting generic cards like linkuriboh, baronne, and borreload it feels like konami is future proofing the game somewhat

i was thinking about baronne's release date and it was literally only 3 years ago it feels like that card has been in the game for like way longer because of how often it gets summoned i myself didn't start playing it until like march last year with superheavy but it feels like i've been playing it for way longer than that

The Linkuriboh talk feels like overanalysis. The card was fine. If the card was fine until two months ago and only became a "problem" as engine grease for a deck that does literally everything you have to look at what made that engine broken. Snake Eyes is busted with or without Linkuriboh so banning it instead of hitting something more specific that limits collateral damage to decks that used the card completely fairly is scapegoating. I know the rebuttal to this is probably "but my rogue deck can't win without Rivalry/Gozen/TCBOO/Summon Limit" but Linkuriboh is very niche. Niche enough that it was easy not to print cards that broke it. Not a fully generic card everyone can play for zero deck building cost. (Baronne and Savage aren't that generic either.) Snake Eyes was the issue. It will continue to be an issue. Engine power creep is the problem and Konami pushing engines by not giving them any locks or restrictions has caused nearly every non-floodgate problem they've had to deal with for the entire power creep era. Was Linkuriboh really busted when it was tributing Meluseek and Drytron Alpha? Absolutely not.

Rendering decks people have a huge fondness for actually functionally unplayable instead of just unviable is a problem. People weren't playing Scythe in a rogue deck they took to locals because they already owned it and want to keep playing it because they enjoy whatever it is about the deck while also feeling like they can actually show up and play without instantly losing because that deck happens to be able to make cards like Savage or Baronne, cards a lot of casuals just got their hands on like two months before the format became unplayable for them because of the broken new deck. So when the broken new deck becomes the banned deck they'll still be out cards that make them feel like they didn't waste their time showing up to locals. Seriously, it's amazing just how disconnected people are from the concept of casual play in a card game. No other card game laughs at its players and tells them to get fucked as often as Yugioh players do. Hitting around the problem is always worse in this regard. You can knock engine agnostic cards like floodgates and staples all you want. The "my deck would be able to compete if it had Pot of Greed" comments are able to be dismissed as nonsense since every deck can actually play those cards better than a rogue deck. Boss monsters that aren't summonable in every deck due to the way engines are designed? That's a harder sell.
