All this and any pursuit is a meaningless waste of time if when you die you end up apart from God because you lived without him here. It's truth I know from experience.

I’d recommend The Unfettered Mind by Takuan Soho, his friend and teacher, which contains an essay in the form of a letter written to Musashi.

I have always tended to be jealous of my classmates and colleagues who went out and achieved success in different areas - I've had my own successes but I've always had a bad habit of comparing myself and then I would bounce from thing to thing trying to keep up with them resulting in feeling like I don't know who I am. I found a strategy however - I took a particular goal I had and when I struggled to maintain my focus on it because I was starting to drift in another direction, I would always say to myself what if I went on social media right now and suddenly found out that a former classmate was really successful in that particular area, how jealous would I be? If the answer was "kind of jealous" I wouldn't pursue that goal, if the answer was REALLY JEALOUS as in "that's what I always wanted to do!" I knew I was heading in the right direction and I would buckle down on that goal. Sounds weird but it helped me. I try not to compare myself to others now but to stick to my own goals and dreams and disregard what others are doing but when I get lazy I always imagine finding out that a former classmate had hit that goal and then it motivates to me work harder for it. It's just a weird mind strategy I use.

I read a book of five rings and the samurai code when I was a teenager, I am middle aged now. This guy had such an impact on how I rend to think as well as take action and the man I am today when I visit his teachings.

Never mind important meetings. The biggest challenge for most people is being able to cope with a meaningless job and a meaningless life, with the boredom and lack of fulfilment it brings.

3:06 guilt is not natural and it is never constructive but destructive. If it was natural, other animal will also feel guilty. Never regretting anything implies the profound realisation of WHO I AM and that there is no “good and bad” as intrinsic qualities of something but an abstract moral conceptualisation of reality. This is in fact the story of the Bible when God said DO NOT EAT OF THE FRUIT OF THE TREE OF GOOD AND BAD, speaking figuratively of course. The ONLY thing we can choose is if you choose to know reality or judge it in the simplistic term of “good and bad”, the day you choose that path, you “certainly die”.

If you have a lifetime of regret, it isn't easy to forget. Sometimes the path of self-improvement can be misguided and leads to more regret. The stoicism of Musashi isn't natural to some, the discipline is admirable and inspiring, but it isn't realistic for most people. This man never lost a duel from the age of 13. We aren't like him.

Basically think the opposite to what the mind is telling you.i'll never get to sleep -meet this with good good I hope I never sleep again -i find going to an extreme the most helpful (it's also really funny and completely destroys the narrative the mind is giving me.something bad might happen -meet it with good good I hope it does and I hope it is absolutely devastating -the minds narrative is smashed to pieces cos it ain't getting the usual anxious response.paradoxical approach is key.going to extremes and smashing the minds attempts to create fear.i want more fear-more stress -more pain more more more-i find the more extreme the better 😂❤
Providers are superior men. Farmers, laborers > soldiers, warriors We turn into warriors while still feeding the community and building their homes. Be an "Invisible Hand" Provider, and you'll be superior to any soldier/warrior. You will be the one soldiers/warriors come to with their problems.

A man that was truly taking the span of his lifetime to understand that very thing - his life. He tried to understand his thoughts, his mind, his awareness of his consciousness, etc. It's within all of us. Only a few of us can take a second to recognize it
