For the love of God, everybody, stop whining! Nemo put a loop on one side of the pillow and a tag that can serve as a loop on the other side of the pillow. Grab some p-cord & make your own damn strap! geez-O-pete. (THAT SAID… what the hell Nemo! For that price you can’t include a pad strap? I mean, what’s it gonna set you back, like $.78 per pillow? geez-O-pete!)

How do these trekking pole tents do in heavy winds and or rains? How about when it is very buggy/mosquito out? Or how about on hard ground where stakes are not particularly helpful?
@BackpackingGearNut
@BackpackingGearNut Ай бұрын
They hold up really well in severe wind. Not a single issue. In some ways, they’re stronger than traditional tents because when I’m in a strong wind with a traditional tent, it can push down pretty hard on one side and snap the traditional style poles. The trekking poles are so rigid and strong that they barely move, and certainly aren’t going to break from the wind."

Got to cook it low and slow. Backpacking stoves often concentrate the heat in one spot and gets too hot in that one spot, sometimes difficult to control the output of the stove. Perhaps do some more cooking videos and evaluate cooking equipment/gear. It looks like the pan did a decent job of distributing the heat. Nice video! Nice work!
@BackpackingGearNut

@@Biodiversity-Institute I think that’s a great idea. Thank you for the suggestion! The pan did distribute the heat pretty well and the stove I was using is the BRS. I find with that stove I can control the flame really well now that I know how to use it.

I just did a side by side comparison with the Helinox Chair Zero Highack, the Nemo Moonlight, the Nemo Moonlight Elite and the Big Agnes Skyline UL and I chose the Helinox because being able to slide down and rest your head against the back is the BEST feature. That means I can actually doze off and catch a nap which you can't do when your head isn't supported. It's also just a little heavier than the Moonlight Elite! I weighed it myself and it's 1lb 7.6oz with the case! The Elite is 1lb 6oz. I'm 5"9", 180 and I find it perfectly comfy. Also, the base pad you can get for the Chair 2 highback fits the base on this to stop you from sinking in sand, AND that base pad acts as a case! LOVE this chair!

I have a brand new katadyn be free never used and air goes through (dry) Have a brand new sawyer squeeze never used and air goes through (dry) And I have a life straw that has been used and is wet but that does not pass air. I think dry/wet makes a difference in this evaluation
@BackpackingGearNut
@BackpackingGearNut 2 ай бұрын
Wet the katadyn because it has hydrophobic membrane so it needs to be wet in order to expand to the proper micron. When I made the video I had forgotten to say that. If it then allows air through then it has a problem.

Thank you! Super informative. I’m super fussy about fabrics and cannot stand polyester against my face. Too hot and sweaty. The Nemo Fillo microfleece is the only fabric that has ever felt comfortable. How does the ZenBivy fabric compare to the Nemo microfleece?
@BackpackingGearNut
@BackpackingGearNut 2 ай бұрын
The Nemo microfleece is nice and soft, but the foam rubber or plastic, depending on which pillow you get, is very hot on my head. Which is nice when it’s really cold but not anything above 40°F, and it makes me sweat and is uncomfortable for me when it’s hot. I like the feel of the ZenBivy pillowcase. It’s soft in a different way, but it is breathable and doesn’t make my ear. Feel weird. Also, the way I put the pillow together. It’s either got the down pillow topper or if I’m going ultralight I may use one of my jackets so I’m able to mitigate the sweat.

I had a horrible experience with outdoor vitals. Their gear is great but if you need to return something they are the worst. They will inspect your return and if it’s not in new unused condition they will deduct 20% from your refund. Now this seems fair but my return has a pulled thread in the hood that there is no way I could have caused and they wouldn’t give me the benefit of the doubt and took 20% of the top. I tried reasoning with them to no avail. They give cottage industry proprietors a bad name. Beware. Not a hater just telling the truth.

Sorry to hear you had that experience. I used their gear for a long time before they even knew who I was and have had good experience returning things but the last time I return something was now over two years ago. Thank you for the comment. I hope you enjoy my videos!

I've no idea how you fit into this and consider it comfortable. Im 6'1 and 235 pounds and everything about this chair is too small and ultimately, it's painful to sit in. Poles digging into your back and arm pits, ends poking into your legs. otherwise its fantastic but this weight saving obsession has gone too far if the usability just isn't there. My tiny daughter is delighted however as she's just been gifted this chair as it's utterly useless to me. It's way too low and narrow. Superb build and materials but if your anything above an average size buy this product at your peril.

I have quite a few different chairs. I have found no perfect chair for me. Everything‘s a give-and-take if you’re talking about lightweight for backpacking. I find that all the lightweight backpacking chairs that are under 1.5 pounds or two load of the ground. I’m just used to it, but it’s not for everybody. I haven’t had any issues with the bars in my legs and I have figured out how to deal with the bars in my back so that it works for me. My very favorite thing about this chair is it doesn’t sink in the ground because of the ground cloth. I also like its materials and construction and feel like I can count on it.

hey, I've always been able to use an extremely light pump sack, because i just use a thin garbage bag. Pick a big size bag, I think 40 - 60L is fine, scoop it full of air, close it at the top. Using your hand you can hold the opening closed, and grip around the inflating nozzle. I do this for my nemo pad, works better than an inflation bag imo because it's so much more volume, once you have the technique down. Just don't squeeze too hard, the thin bag will pop if you're not gentle. Used the same bag for my pack liner for 40 days, dual use is weight saving, not that the bag weighs anything, replace it at any supermarket.
