Brilliant reels and I think their spool line reducers are probably the best. But if you could ask Penn why oh why don’t they list them as parts. If you lose or break , they are gone forever..

Good point about undershotting your floats Ben. On my favourite Fowey mark there's nearly always fairly serious boily currents and a dotted down float will just get dragged under constantly. I've been using Drennan Loafers of all sizes for decades (up to 4 or 5 SSG down Hayle in the past!) but more recently for the Fowey I use almost exclusively bolo floats. My current favourites are Dave Harrell ones in 4g size, I absolutely love them. They ride the water really well and are pretty bullet proof - ideal for the likes of me when I'm constantly smashing them against stuff on the strike. Even then though I still under weight them so there's a good amount sticking out. When the mullet are in the mood, they don't care. As you well know, the idea that mullet are finicky feeders is often bollocks, especially during the colder months. And I'm with you on olivettes. I use them all the time now for my bulks and only ever use shot as trimmers or droppers. I come from the era of lead shot and I hate the modern non-toxic ones. I've learned too many times to my cost how much they ruin 6lb mono!

Yeah I know this is rather cheeky, but watching your video of catching some fish on a hard mark like a breakwater or pier. Thanks, Paul
@GwinearAngling27 күн бұрын
Hi Paul, to be perfectly honest, I couldn’t recommend the kind of fishing the lads are doing here to somebody with reduced mobility as it is very physically demanding. With how hard some of the species pull and how much ground they can cover in a fight, there is serious potential for things to go badly wrong unless you are in the company of others who really know what they are doing and can help out if things go pear shaped. I’m sorry that this isn’t the answer you are looking for but I don’t think it would be responsible of us to put you into a potentially dangerous situation.

We currently don’t trade online so unless visiting Irish anglers come into the shop, they don’t buy from us too frequently! 😅 But hopefully a good deal of the information applies to the rest of the UK and Ireland 👍

Brilliant lures, but now it's time to chance those terrible trebles for single hooks.. Safer for fish and fishermen.
@GwinearAnglingАй бұрын
That is a fair comment but I think it’s also fair to say that it is a matter of personal choice. It does seem like the majority of anglers still prefer the trebles and there’s nothing to stop people changing the hooks on the lures to singles if that’s what they favour for their fishing. From the point of view of the lure manufacturers, they would probably upset more people by equipping their hard plastic lures with singles as stock rather than trebles, would you agree?

Waders on rocks 😳 braver man than me!
@GwinearAnglingАй бұрын
To be fair, choice of footwear would be difficult for that session. I (camera man) had rock boots on with spikes so I felt pretty comfortable on the rocks but I couldn’t wade. The lads with waders could obviously wade but found the rocks a bit slippy at times. We were told to bring waders so naturally that’s what Ryan and Sam brought. I went for boots as I didn’t want to be tempted to get in the water somewhere I don’t know with a camera 😅 recipe for disaster!

One take is nuts, he is a natural👏🏻👏🏻 Are there plans to get Sietze to visit Gwinear Tackle Shop and do a talk or generally chat to customers about Ultimate Fishing gear? I went to the Lure show in Bristol pre covid and the Big One in Farnborough last year, at both events I found the lure talks fascinating. However, it would be great to find something closer to home in the Westcountry🤞

The next video from the trip is all about new products from Ultimate so there will be more from Sietze very soon! Hi Rick, thanks for the feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed the video! That could potentially be something we look at in the future 👍
@sietzehendriksАй бұрын
Hi Rick, thanks for you kind words and question! It's obviously very hard to properly explain it just in writing but as the Frosty is mainly used for a slow presentation in calm to flat calm conditions it doesn't need too much working. The best way is to fish it with your tip up high and "tap the slack" so with fairly gentle rod movements just let the slack in your line bounce up and down(obviously hard enough to get the lure moving). As i briefly touched upon it swims a lot wider so by giving it so much slack you allow it the neccesary freedom of movement. Next time when we have an opportunity like this or for some short reels on our Ultimate Fishing UK socials i will keep your request in mind!

@GwinearAngling2 ай бұрын
To be honest I haven’t seen all that many folks using it, even down here but it really is effective! It’s not the only ingenious rig for pollacking from the old school days - I got told about one for float fishing that was particularly clever but I can’t remember the details of it now. It used some kind of tethering system so you could cast and drift the float out as normal but then you could release the trace somehow to float fish really deep, like 30 feet or more. Wish I could remember how it worked now! 😅

Thanks Allen! Do you mean beach rods and reels or kit from all the disciplines? I think if we covered those products we would not use the word review unless it was something that we had used extensively. It’s more likely that we would explain what the product does and where it sits in the market and offer some thoughts on who it might best suit. More of an overview than a review, if that makes sense 👍

Probably best overall venue would be High Place on Newquay Headland but fishing out there comes with a few challenges. Fly cellars is a brilliant mackerel mark over high tide but like high place it can be very busy and there are always seals there. @GwinearAngling3 ай бұрын
Hi Ed, do you mean trying to fish over it when it’s covered? Or fishing off the rocks themselves?
@edmacfarlane94833 ай бұрын
@@GwinearAngling sorry I meant when they are covered.
@GwinearAngling3 ай бұрын
I think you may have a hard time making that happen to be honest Ed. By the time the tide is high enough to cover those rocks, the water’s edge will be a good way up the beach and you would need a very ping cast to get close to it. Even if you could make the cast, you would have no control over the lure’s sink rate and retrieve depth at that range and I expect you would get snagged straight away.

Another really informative and expertly presented video. Could I ask a question? Many years ago back in the 70s I used to fish a legendary rock mark on the north coast near Treyarnon, it used to be know as ray rock for obvious reasons and I think that it was adjacent to Fox Cove. There was a very prominent high isolated rock stack close to the rock ledges from which you fished. As with a lot of the north coast it was potentially very dangerous with any sort of ground swell running but the fishing in the right conditions was wonderful for small eyed ray, bass and loads of specimen plaice in springtime. I have not been back there in many years and was wondering if it is still a worthwhile venue. I did exchange a couple of emails with you when you were posting your gilthead bream fishing videos and this latest Gwinear series is tempting me back to visit in September once the holiday season is over.
@GwinearAngling3 ай бұрын
Hi David, I know where you mean and the short answer is, yes, it is still a good mark although you will likely find it nowhere near as productive as it used to be, especially for the plaice. It can still be good for ray fishing though so definitely worth revisiting, although like you say, you really need to be careful to get the conditions right. Great to hear that you like the videos and they’re inspiring you to visit! Come and see us in the shop for a chat if you do 😄
