In the US there are many areas where Spanish speakers live their lives without speaking English, and yet many English speakers become very upset and harass these people, saying "speak English!" even when they are not part of the conversation. If a person is of that mindset, then the unhypocritical thing to do would be to learn Spanish when they move to a Spanish-speaking country.

It's very interesting that men from the USA or Canada (regardless of race) will very easily be open to the idea of having a permanent relationship with a local Mexican woman, but for women from the USA or Canada that does not seem to be the case as much that they are open to dating local men. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, so no need to provide examples to the contrary; I posted this more so that women who are retiring to Mexico consider this as an option.
@anythingispossiblenow8 күн бұрын
I do know women who have tried to have relationships with Mexican men, but it doesn't tend to last. The cultural differences are too great. American and Canadian women are very independent, outspoken, and not likely to be the kind of woman they are looking for. It could work for some women, but probably not the women who have pulled up roots, left everything, and started life alone in a new country.

There is nowhere on the planet that is perfect all year through…it’s really annoying that “Americans” are always complaining…You name it, they have a complaint…Get over yourselves…YOU are NOT that important! And Yes, I’m an American, sorry to say!

The purpose of my channel is to discuss the actual realities of living here. I know of no other place where this stuff is talked about. Everybody talks about how perfect it is. Well, I think it is about as perfect as we can expect on earth, but there are downsides that never get discussed. I hear this stuff on the local Facebook groups all the time. People are blindsided when they get here because nobody ever talks about this stuff. I love it here, but my channel is to talk about real life here.

My understanding is that Medicare will not cover you after 6 months LIVING/have a visa in MX. During that six months they will cover 'emergencies'. As our friend, VG, learned, once you leave the hospital after the 'emergency'...no more. Democrats Abroad fights the good fight to get those of us who have paid into Medicare all those years covered no matter where we are.
@anythingispossiblenow14 күн бұрын
It depends on your Advantage plan. What and how long they will cover emergencies is dependent on what your contract says and what they decide to cover. If you sign up with Lakeside Medical, they check everything as soon as you join, so you know what will be covered and for how long.

Dang, I need to start taking this more seriously. My Wife and I own two homes, one in So. Calif. and one 2 hrs south of Mexico City in Cuernavaca. She's a dual Citizen currently staying in Mex. City caring for her ailing Father, as our house there stands empty for several years now. I am not a Mexican citizen, but my name is also on the house there, and I plan to move there _some day._ I have a vast collection of tools and mechanical equipment in Calif which I really don't want to part with, they're my life and soul. I am sure it depends where in the US you are talking about. For some people, moving back to the US - if they want to return to their home area - would be measurably more expensive.

I appreciate the way you boil this down to the various pathways toward retirement in Mexico. I grew up in Mexico and want to retire there. But it's been many years. I worry about the financial requirements for the residency visa. You've helped me a lot and what it might take to work around what I think our unrealistic sources of income.

Noise Pollution is a America weakness & trigger points for some, but it's everyday life in México. From cars & trucks selling over the load speaker, to late night music ; it's a cultural thing but everyone learns to get along. Karen Free Zone . Learn to tip for things you normal don't tip for in the US; but the extra you give, the more you get. Bribery is part of life in México, but think of it as a tip and helps you move things faster. Remember Rodney Dangerfield in Back to School Economic class.. Bribery is done by Lobbyist and our government , but in México you see all leaves life. My personal option is look for a small town, larger towns have Big City problems. México is the terracotta rainbow, and had the first Mulatto president of North America; who outlawed slavery 40 years before the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. This is a very loving county and culture, with a rich history of being a melting pot Afro, Asian, Arb , European and Russian. The food is so much fresher and bakeries too. When is the last time you bought honey with the bee honeycomb inside the bottle. Auga fresca / Fruit waters and Popsicle or ice creams. The seasonal Christmas beer will remind you of German Texas Beer. OXXO (mini mart) is owned by a beer company and has the best price on beer and free ice with a 6 or 12 pack. § Your Results may Vary § I've live in Méx.18 years and would not move back, I have more Liberty in Méx than USA. It's cheaper to live here and property tax is super low. paying property tax on both sides of the border I see a HUGE difference. S·Mart grocery chain gives me a higher rate of exchange US Dollar, than Casa de Cambio and helps me stretch my dollar and exchange USD to Peso. In half hour to hour half I'm across the border best of both worlds. In the USA Vicente Ramón Guerrero Saldaña Plan of Iguala - 24 February 1821 Amendment XIII - April 8, 1864 Don't Look up "La Batalla de Salina Cruz" 9th of April 1905 and Manuel Mondragón

I want to add our two cents to endorse everything you said. We moved to Lake Chapala in February 2023. We like it a lot but it's expensive compared to other areas of Mexico (outside of expat bubbles). It also has hotter temperatures in May-June than the other KZbinrs lead you to believe and it's November and in the low 80s. And in the rainy season, although the green is beautiful and everything is in bloom, it's a bit humid and the bobos (gnat like bugs) swarm so bad we had to wear masks on our dog walks if we wanted to talk to each other. So, I now understand why so many people come here for six months as snowbirds. We suggest renting somewhere for a month before deciding. Even a week or two won't provide enough of a taste of living here versus vacationing here. We hope to move away from the expat bubble and reduce our housing costs, but I have to find a place that's cooler in the hot weather and I haven't zeroed in on that yet so that we can take a trip next May (hottest month).

I did a video on the bugs! The bobos are annoying, but harmless. I love the rainy season. It is my favorite time of year....and the snowbirds miss it completely....but to each their own! Thanks for watching!

Living in Yucatan with a native Mexican woman who visits IMSS. Wait times for any kind of specialists are unacceptably long but free public emergency care and private medical facilities are darn good. There are some remarkably good doctors in the large cities if you're an ex-pat and can pay out of pocket, but buying into IMSS is just not a good option for Americans.

I am finding, in my mid 70s, people are retiring very young these days, so "retiree" activities are a bit more strenuous than an average 70 year old can handle, and I've been athletic my entire life. I still walk in the woods every day, not as fast as I used to, but I do it. I am very healthy and very single. I've basically been on my own for 40 years and did many things I wouldn't have done if I was attached. Ajijic sounds very appealing. Although it seems quite wealthy and a bit expensive.
@anythingispossiblenow4 ай бұрын
Yes. Just getting a resident Visa for Mexico has gotten pretty prohibitive for many people. Buying a house here is basically cash, no mortgage and prices here are about what houses cost when I left Oregon. So, renting is still a great option and there are good deals to be had. There is a lot to do here that is quite level, but the sidewalks and roads are very difficult for many people.

The smoke and other airborne things, invasive dust, and filthy/unreliable water are not things i can or will tolerate since i have both asthma and allergies. I was going back and forth on the area and this is information made this area a solid NO for me. Thank you for saving me a lot of time and money checking further into this area.

I'm sorry this was discouraging, but it is the honest truth. I try not to whine, but I know many people who just go away during this hot, dry period. I have never lived any place that is idyllic 12 months of the year, but 10 months of the year is quite tolerable to me, especially if I can just go someplace else for 2 months. By the time the rains start in late June, we are quite appreciative of cooler temps and the lovely dampness that brings things back to life again. I'm glad this helped you decide.

my concerns about the recent changes occurring in Chapala, my mother's hometown. While we appreciate the interest in our community, we feel strongly that the town's beauty and charm are inherent to its original character and culture. We respectfully request that newcomers to Chapala make an effort to understand and respect our way of life. The imposition of outside influences is not welcomed, and it is important to us that the integrity of our community is preserved. We hope you understand our perspective and cooperate in maintaining the traditions and lifestyle that make Chapala unique.

Yes. Good to do your research. Things are really changing here. I'm not sure if it is just because of El Nino or if it is a more permanent trend due to climate change. It is very uncomfortable and many people are concluding that they will just go someplace else for a couple of months while it is so hot. Only time will tell. I think most places are trending toward hotter and more extreme weather, so we just have to decide what works for us individually.
