Good method, not really done right. Good idea to crimp it afterwards too.

I worked on commercial trucks and have been doing that for 20 years! I flux the lug and tin the wire , reflux the wire before putting it in the lug. I used this for snow plows and battery connections! It Bever failed even with heavy exposure to salt!

Yike !! NASA Certified here.... first of all, crimp it and then heat it and let the solder flow down the conductor. Second.... you just created a brittle, cold, solder joint by dumping water on it. To test this, use a milliohm meter and the difference will be apparent.

The girl that cut my hair years ago asked if I was a welder? I said yes. She said she thought so. Her dad was a welder and we both had big knecks from holding up that hood all day.

Stayed to the end! Great info. I'm 55 and just learning, have always been interested in welding but became a carpenter. Took an introduction class , loved it. Bought an arccaptain an i practice. Flat welds are pretty good but my vertical are terrible 😂 your videos are great and help me understand this new trade I'm excited about learning. Also appreciate your sense of humor!. Please keep videos coming I'm sure your working full time and these videos are alot of work too, so really appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience with us all. Have a great new year!

High amp cable-to-lugs should be crimped, and crimped only. Besides, the soldering technique here is very poor. CRIMP your lugs, folks.

I developed an essential tremor which made tig welding thin wall 4130 and welding with a stinger impossible. Doctors have developed a cure for some types of tremors. It involves ultrasound wave to your brain. This is cutting edge stuff. After the first of the year I am getting a cat scan and a mri to see if I am a candidate. Insurance will cover it.

A crimp tool for copper Lugs is far better electrically than soldering. In fact soldering is not recommended for large copper connectors! Look it up

Tip for restarting 7018 scratch the end of the rod on that concret floor or a rock and get the scale off the metal part of the rod . Start like a 6010 or 6011 with cellulose flux.

I know you're overall opinion of inspectors, and not saying I am or am not one, but regardless...you put out good, real world content with tips that can only be learned through hands-on experience. Unfortunately those lessons often come in the form of mistakes, and you make that very clear as well. We all know that guy thats "been welding 35 years and never had a bust " Gonna keep watching and liking, regardless of what you think about what i may......or may not do for a living haha.

Been electric forklift mechanic approaching 32 years. Been all routes. Solder/lead works fine til heat becomes an issue ie loose connections, weak batteries or power source (cause higher amperage ie higher temps) although in your video you didn’t use any flux. Flux is essential to a good clean connection, it binds the solder/lead to the wire and the connector. Anyway, solder and crimp while still hot and bubbly, best connection possible. Continue torching lug as someone else crimps. Oh and please use heat shrink to seal the gap between insulation and lug. Copper loves to corrode. And heat helps it corrode even faster.

You should crimp and solder. If it gets hot lead will melt and leed will come out . Like starter cables on large diesel engines.

It may "work", but far from optimum soldering process which results in most efficient power transfer. Use only electrical grade solder, then first tin the lug, then the wire/cable. Lastly, solder the cable into the lug. Regardless, this application is best served by performing a crimp of lug to cable. Far more durable over the long haul. The more you know.
