We visited in Feb for 4 days and that wasn't enough to see it all. Stayed at a bnb on the Royal Mile. AKR came down for a day visit. Spent most of our time in The Worlds End Pub. Edinburgh is awesome. 23000 steps a day! Congrats on the 10K.

All over the world there is evidence of people living under rock structures, caves, etc. What was going on with the Sun during these times?

I didn't see the connection between this style and the sun? It's likely warmer, protects against predators, storage of foraging/growing and dry goods, etc

Cracking Vlog. My Friend. No Foodie or Shopping Trips included! Perfect. I'm a regular Visitor to this Magical City. From my Home near Belfast. (I spent 13! 5 day stays in Edinburgh last year alone). I could be a Tour Guide. The Grave you showed was Wee Bobby's. The only, Non Human Grave in any Scottish Kirkyard. His Master, John (Jock) Gray's, Grave is right behind where you were stood in the next clip. Great to see a Youngish Lad. Being so knowledgeable & passionate about his Country's Capital. Well Done Son. P.S All my Trips... And I'm still learning!!! 😂 Good Luck! 😊

Thank you so much! I'm an Aussie born in Edinburgh. Glad to see the blue fountain in Princess St Gardens is back working after renovations. It was looking very sad when I was back there in 2019. I'd love to see you do more episodes in Auld Reekie. I'm sure you'd love the book 'The Town Below the Ground' (Jan-Andrew Henderson) which describes all the old tunnels under the bridges (your video at 18:36) and the haunted places. You'd love it, BKR, right up your alley. I hope you stopped to rub Greyfriars Bobby on the nose - it's very good luck.

It makes me think of the ruins at Scara Brae. It would be wonderful if a archaeological dig could be done there. There must be other hidden artifacts there and certainly it looks much bigger than the one at Scara Brae. This looks like a very exciting place and being something of a history nut I would love to see the results of a further archaeological investigation. If properly explored and documented these ruins will also be preserved and protected. Thanks for sharing this with us this is very very interesting. The history of Scotland is more than just Kings and Queens and the tragedy of the take over by foreigners. The ordinary people are entitled to have their history explored, documented and published for the identity and dignity of the indigenous population to be explored, understood and made known globally.

Seems like a hut or stone cottage with a fireplace would be more comfortable than a castle back then. The ground beneath you. A smaller space to heat. I think it is possible they had wooden shutters with the iron windows. Otherwise it would be so hard to heat.

Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada - I have not been to Scotland in 15 years. I was born in Scotland and any visit has usually included time in Edinburgh. I used to go up and down those stairs but I wonder if I could do that these days. LOL

Fun fact, while the camera mirrors the image and it appears the other way, these structures were built so that people coming up (attacking) would have to swing their weapon with their left hand, while those above could use their more typically dominant right hand.

The history is right! Its truly incredible when you can see and touch history yourself. Its so much more impactful this way. I wish all children in school could go on lits of field trips for history and art and all classes. Because seeing these subjects out in person in the real world helps us to care to learn it and understand it much quicker. We can grasp so much more when we can use all our senses to take it in.
