Gorgon is great, I have thrown the mamba before and its more finicky for me I have to have the right Hyzer flip angle on it to keep it from rolling maybe its just the one I got. The gorgon is pretty effortless distance I dont have to crush it, I can send it with less power(still hyzer flipping it) and it goes farther than most 10 speeds with less effort.

You make a good point. I have several Mambas and no two are exactly alike. I have one that is super flippy that I used to use a lot before I had a forehand throw. I guess the main thing is finding what works for you whether it be the Gorgon, Mamba, or something else. Sometimes I have a disc that works great for me, and then all of a sudden it doesn't. The good thing is there are so many discs, the never-ending search for the perfect disc continues.

I actually tried this out yesterday, before seeing this video. My arm speed isnt anything special, maybe in the average, a little above average. The gorgon landed around 350' to 400', but the mamba was close to 100' further. I actually have to be conservative with it, I can launch it well past the basket regularly, it's the only disc in my bag that I can do that with.

I like Mambas also, but I really enjoy throwing Infinite Discs Maya. I have never been accused of having a big arm, yet I can get the Maya to fly some 20' farther on a consistent basis. Almost all discs have an overstable flight when I throw them. The Maya is one of the few discs that I can actually throw on a hyzer flip and get it to pop up to level. At least sometimes anyway.

nobody has really mentioned this as far as I know but the Gorgon has a rounded rim like the IT. If you love the feel of the IT, then good for you but if not, you probably should avoid this disc and buy the trail. The gorgon is flippier than the IT weirdly enough. I say it has 2 to 4 turn and generally does not come back. For reference I typically through a couple degrees nose up and achieve about 260-280 drives on average

The Trail is markedly beefier than the Gorgon even if you get one that's true to its numbers - and from what I've seen, the Trail is variable from more or less true to its numbers, to flying more like a 0 | 2 or 0 | 2.5. I've got one that does more right-to-left movement than a 0|2 Vulture.. I don't think telling somebody who already needs more turn than the Gorgon to buy a Trail is going to work out for him.

Man, I just got one of the most recent runs of Halo Star Mamba and it is not the Mamba I am accustomed to. It is overstable and there's no way for me to say a -5 turn is accurate. It's more like -1 1.5 (Yes I knew going in that halo star is usually more overstable) For context, I had a Gorgan and it was too flippy for me, so the point I'm trying to make here, is that Innova is not even trying to match their discs to their numbers. And what's so crazy about that is that they're the mutha truckers that invented the numbering system! Uh, hello?
@NickArnette
@NickArnette 9 күн бұрын
I think it's crazy, too! If they aren't going to try to be consistent, then what's the point of the numbers? Also, the type of plastic can make it a completely different disc. A prime example, at least for me, is Blizzard plastic. It's light, but very overstable. Same with Champion, very overstable compared to the other plastics.

He got me a Big Z Buzzz as a birthday gift and I used that until I got Innova's starter set in premium plastic (clearance sale) and then a Westside Underworld and a DD Vandal. I seem to do well with discs that are speeds 4 to 7 for mids and drivers. Followed your advice and got an Innova starter set in the base plastic yesterday- I like the base Leopard over the premium Leopard3. A used Mako3 is arriving tomorrow along with some used Westside Discs-- a Warcraft and a Maiden-- pink, white, pink respectively. Light colored discs save a lot of headaches as most everything else blends in with the fall colors!

Hey Nick, your channel was one of the first i saw when my son got me into the game last year. I'm a "young" old dude of 53. Not super athletic or coordinated, but became obsessed with the game and wanted to get better. When I first started, I really sucked at putting, so i put a basket in my back yard and practice often. That was one of my main keys to getting better scores. All strokes count the same, so get good at putting! I try to play every day after work (tough this time of year with short days) and have several of my coworkers playing now. If I don't have time to play, I head to the field to practice. I don't have a big arm and throw mostly forehand as it is more comfortable for me. It hurts my shoulder when I throw power backhands, so I don't do it. I always stretch out before throwing, which improves my early round throws and helps to prevent injuries. One thing that helps me is to visualize what I want my shot to do before I get on the pad. If you're just trying to throw it without any idea of what you want, I think your chances of success aren't as good. Thanks for making a channel for us old dudes Nick!

Another awesome video Nick, nice to virtually meet your friend Doug. I like that your video talked about the weights of the discs, a lot of videos don't bother to mention that and it can make a substantial difference. I consider myself on the cusp of becoming a young old dude a disc golfer at 59 and a half. I can throw about 300 ft. Sometimes it seems like I can throw farther than that but when I go out to a local football field edge of end zone to edge of end zone is about my max. I probably throw this that are too fast and too heavy for my arm speed. I don't have much in the way of max weight disk but try to shoot for this that are in the mid-160s. I have a Daedalus in the star plastic that is probably my longest throwing disc but it's a little finicky. I have an MVP Wave in the fission plastic that seems to be easier to get up to speed and achieves similar distances were reliably. I bought it last May at the Portland open tournament to support the jomez fpo hot geese ladies after an old dude that I was spotting with let me throw his while we were waiting for the first ladies card to reach the hole that we were spotting on. If memory serves the whole is 320 ft and downhill. First throw of the wave parked it, love at first flight. Rarely throw a bad shot with it. Take care a stay awesome.

65 and also @7 months. I was introduced to the game by my grandson. Some of my accomplishments are an ace at 213 ft and second place in my second tournament. I love this game!

Gotta love the opportunity to play a round with new friends you stumble across at the first tee or the parking lot as you grab your discs. So much fun to see how they play and learn some strategy to play a course. I noticed a few low hanging trees on those fairways and immediately thought...roller. Great shot to perfect. I always carry a flippy disc that can be used for a roller. That's my tip of the day.

I agree, rollers are a great way to get out of tricky situations, I always have one in my bag as well (the Rollo), but I can't seem to get the hang of making it roll where I want it to go! haha!!

I’m 67 and started playing during COVID lockdown, but I wasn’t getting any distance at all for a long time. I only played a handful of times until I got my friend Dan to go with me. That’s when I started wanting to throw farther. I watched some videos and realized I was throwing nose up and it was killing my distance and accuracy. After working on getting the nose down, which meant getting used to a new grip, I got more accurate and more distance. I have a bad back which keeps me from throwing very far still, but I really enjoy playing.

The nose-up throw can be a killer! Glad you figured it out.

I just love how you never know who you going to meet out there . And when you do meet someone who loves the game as much as you do , it just clicks. One tip that has been helping me recently is in the “power grip”. Keep your thumb about 1.5” from the rim and push from the bottom with just your pointer finger mostly. It’s called front loaded grip. Helps a lot with the “Snap” you’re talking about . Your Awesome Too 👍

Yes, it's always fun to meet other disc golf enthusiasts! I'm gonna' try your power grip and see if I can get some more snap! Thanks for the suggestion!

Field Work is critical for all of us old dudes. I live in Wisconsin and try to get an hour of practice time in about 3-5 days per week. The weekends I do about 1 1/2 to 2 hours of practice. Weekdays I try to practice an hour in the local park before I start my 2nd shift job. Some people kind of catch on quicker than others. Great interview. you should try measuring out your own course some time in a city park that does not have an existing course already, it's a lot of fun.
