Missed out every attempt Catalonia made to Madrid to negotiate to prevent the need for a referendum. They felt like they had little choice. Furthermore, the vote was overseen by external, neutral and internationally accredited election overseers. Also that Scotland recognised the vote and Belgium recognised Catalonias right to democratically vote. Additionally, the EUs own charter recognises any nation of Europa has the right to self identity and should be welcomed. Spain also had no issue in changing the constitution to impose austerity measures in order to secure German loans for its politically affiliated national banks. So to suggest it was illegal according to the constitution is utter rubbish. It’s when it suits

I love the HRE, probably my favourite european state in modern history. It might not have been successful, it may have been excessively complicated, but that is what makes it interesting. There were so many moving parts, so many tales of struggle and success amongst the various rulers that I can't help but love it.
