Spoilers for those who care. A horrible man. But you can't help but not entirely hate him. Characters who do the wrong thing for the right reason often are remembered as the best. Bondrewd is a perfect example of this. He isn't a scientist for the thrill of discovery, he gets his thrills, but realizes that progress takes sacrifice. Despite his seemingly apathetic attitude toward everyone he speaks with, he truly does value their safety and willingness to cooperate. Name another villain who laments the sacrifices of the lives they've taken. Bondrewd remembers them all, naming every cartridge he spits out of his suit. What he did to pretty much everybody is unforgivable, but he nonetheless did care for those he hurt, even if not in the most showing way. Did he hunt down Nanachi? No. He left her to her own devices. He even genuinely congratulates those who surpass his expectations. The death of Mitty proves this, as does Team Riko's assassination attempt on him, and even during his final conversation with Nanachi. He sees potential, and loves seeing others surpass what they believed possible. The mind of a scientist, a caretaker, a father, all trapped within a madman. Hats off to Akihito Tsukushi, for writing an amazing story with amazing characters such as these.

I mentally catalogue this song in the same place as Come Wayward Souls from _Over the Garden Wall._ The chorus of childrens' souls claimed by the cartridges here, or by the oil tree lamp there.

I just recently started watching this anime and I can say the movie is one of the best things Ive seen. I will always like a good villian. Bondrewd never had to justify his actions saying it was for the greater good or some bull like that. He just wanted to experiment and understand the void. He never lied, never tried to manipulate any one. He was always saying things straight foward. All that with the music made me watch the last fight like 20 times

Coming back to this to say thanks. Listening to this I got curious of the anime it was from, and discovered tower of god and Kevin Penkin. I’ve probably played the tower of god album a thousand times by now, it’s such beautiful music.

What made me love both the scene and the music was how it epitomized Bondrewd being humbled. Despite all the people he sacrificed (children, members of the Umbra Hand, and himself) and all his tiresome work to advance the science of his era his ambitions were halted. The teamwork and love the trio had for one another ultimately defeated him despite the immense odds. There is more to life than progress and this was a bittersweet moment in which Bondrewd tasted defeat and learned his lesson (he realized he had to let go and let them advance farther into the Abyss). We see for a brief moment afterwards he regain a very small part of his humanity (symbolized by his partially broken mask). He scarred them, but they changed him as well.

I would say: Hardly. I think that Bondrewd planned to give Riko a White Whistle if push came to stove. Remember that he told Prushka to approach Riko especifically, even though Riko herself wasn't that valuable to his research. Not saying that he wasn't serious when he tried to hack Reg apart... After all, if they can't fend off one of his non-combatant vessels, what hope would the trio have to prevail over the perils of the lower layers? But yeah, he calculated his defeat; In fact, he was probably HOPING for it.

He is an anime version of Lucifer, the light bringer. An excellent scientist, he somehow deciphers the abyss and uses its mysteries and threats to his advantage, he can even return from the zone of no return. But taken to the extreme, he not only uses the nature of the abyss as tools, but also people, he has no limit in what to consume to bring order to chaos. And we do not know to what extent he can fall in love with his own ideas, and be wrong. That is the dark side of the light bringer, the sovereign of dawn.

If you like Bondrewd, check out Joseph Mengele. Genuinely loved twin kids and treated them better than any other prisoner, gave them clothes, candy, played with them... and: - amputated limbs - taking out inner organs for study - infected one with severe disease, used the other one as a control, then killed and dissected both - injected blue dye into eyes - twins sewn together - bathed kids in icy cold water to study it's effects - caged kids and made spinal taps on them - cut off g*n*t**ls ...and much, much more :(
@salt-d20322 ай бұрын
the worst part is that joseph mengele was entirely real. Also he was a nazi so I doubt he treated them all that well. Oh he helped select who was sent to the gas chambers and who was sent for slave labor too.

This theme sounds very unnerving and eerie but also epic. The children’s choir reminds me of songs like kagome kagome which paired with bondrewd’s “research” and the context of brutal experimentation on humans makes it very creepy. And the orchestra and techno elements like the beats, bass boosts, distortions, trumpets and the rapid flute melody gives it the epic and dramatic feelings. Cool theme.
