This is becoming a Sunday morning tradition for me

I grew up in a small town in West Texas, Piggly Wiggly was our only grocery store. Also, the Pig's parking lot is where we congregated in the evening after dragging Main Street, (driving from one end of town turning around in the Dairy Queen parking lot to drive to the other end of town, Repeat For Hours). Great memories of the sixties. I made a pot of red beans with smoked ham hock yesterday, in prep for red beans and rice today w/ garlic smothered shrimp. Cajun food became one of my favorite selections after spending time working out of New Iberia, La. for several years. As others have stated, you have become a fixture in our Sunday morning coffee drinking sessions. Brother, you have made a following in our household for all of your content. You are trusted. Honesty goes a long way in our world, you have got it hands down. Keep doing that which brings a smile to your face and a song in your heart, because you bring a smile to our faces, & a song in our hearts. See you on the trail.

Fifty (50) years ago, traveling through the south, I had a blast seeing Piggly Wiggly and Winn Dixie markets for the first time. We were on a long, slow adventure and had time to visit these markets and enjoy some regional specialities rarely if ever seen in New England. Great times!

Yeah those two let you know you are well into the southern states.

Enjoyed the video. We would shop at Piggly Wiggly on our vacations to the Lake of the Ozarks. Have not seen a Piggly Wighly in decades. Then one night my wife and I were off to the IKEA in Norfolk. There off too the side was a Piggly Wiggly. That neighborhood in Norfolk is almost a free fire zone. Still you got your MRE made.

I enjoy the info you give about the store and the products. A impressive job. USAF retired: I'm acquainted with the Military MRE's. I definitely like this style better.

I can tell you first hand that this bag of rice is great when mixed with a can of wolf brand chili. Like you, i dont like this particular rice style by itself, but it makes for a good one to combine with other ingredients.

Mrs. DBA has a good eye! Caramels have always been a welcome comfort food for me. I've had Foldger's in my house since I was old enough to own my own coffee maker. My Mom would only have Taster's Choice when I was growing up but she never drank as much coffee as I do. I'm glad you found the taste not as evil as you remember, I'd hate to have had to revoked y'all's open Thanksgiving invitation. :) Great video, thanks!

“The Pig” in my town closed its doors about 3 years ago, so now I make a monthly, 25 mile pilgrimage to the store in Siler City, NC (the actress, Frances Bavier who played Aunt Bee, is buried there) to get my pork fix. The store itself is honestly nothing special, until you pick up on its unique vibe. It’s the only grocery store I’ve ever been to that had an aura. All 5 of the PW locations I’ve shopped at made me feel like I’d been transported back to the 1960’s, and not in a bad way either. The huge new-ish store in Williamston, NC gave off the same feeling only it’s still got that new store smell and has 5 times the lighting as a typical Pig 😂 As you alluded to, the stock on the shelves is not going to blow your mind but, if you look closely at the local pork goodness in the various coolers, you’ll understand why Piggly Wiggly has a cult following. Also, the people who work there will treat you like family (as long as you’re not a jerk) and the deli/prepared hot foods section is staffed by the worlds greatest “cafeteria ladies”. Anyhow, I was thrilled to see you build an MRE out of a Pig store and I’ll be making the trip out to mine on Monday. 😊 * Keep your eyes peeled for BIENA chickpea snacks. I’m not sure if this is the same brand you just had but, if it’s not, it’s gooood! I had the Honey Roasted variety ** Maybe try supplementing the beef creations with cut up pieces of Duke's Beef Original Smoked Shorty Sausages (fancy slim jim usually found in with the jerky (could be purchased as the walking around snack). It might pair nicely with that red beans and rice dish 🤷♂️

You have accurately nailed the vibe we were getting while we were there. It’s funny how some places can do that.

Recently found your channel and I am trying to watch a lot of your older videos. So far I am enjoying all I have seen. Here in NE Texas we have two stores you could try to make your MRE's first Albersons and second Super 1 Foods. I look forward to watching more of your videos, and maybe seeing you make MRE's from one or both of these stores.

A store I don’t think you’ve done yet is Lidl. Currently the closest would be in Georgia but they are expanding. They are owned by the same parent company that Aldi and Trader Joe’s and kind of fit in between the two.

I haven’t been to Georgia in a while. Might have to make a trip.

In ancient times (when I was growing up) I thought Folgers was the only brand of coffee, lol. That was the only coffee my parents bought and faithfully brewed every morning. ☕

If you run out of different stores, perhaps some holiday themed meals or regional meals (obviously meals like pig maw are not going to be available out of a pouch). Or even just different menus to show people like me who aren't foodies some other combinations to consider.

I grew up shopping at Piggly Wiggly and when it burnt down they brought in a double wide mobile home and called it the Burnt Pig and rebuilt a store. We no longer have a Pig in our area.😢

Having once lived in Memphis (Germantown) for a couple years you've now got me missing the best barbecue in the world. (Somehow I don't think a Starkist packet is going to do it for me, so I may have to crank up the ol' smoker. 😂)

I thing you might be sorely disappointed if you tried to use that pouch to satisfy that craving 😬
