This shows that 120fps does help A LOT, but it also shows that it's definitely not overkill. In fact, if the camera could do 600fps, it would be even better!
@AlphaCreativeSkills Жыл бұрын
240 fps would increase the success rate of getting a bullet in the frame but not guarantee it. I reckon 240fps would give you a better than 50/50 chance. I think increasing the maximum sync speed that can be used in Continuous Shooting mode from 1/16000 to 1/64000 second would make the bullet appear sharp.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Wait, did you use a flash on these?

Great shots. Did a similar shoot with Z9 and with such fast moving subjects the differences between a fast rolling shutter and a global one are very apparent.
@AlphaCreativeSkills11 ай бұрын
Some people have noted the bullets are still a little 'blurry'. I think they have seen the images by Harold Egerton where he used sonic triggers to fire very short duration flash (not commercially available).
@NAG3V11 ай бұрын
@@AlphaCreativeSkills 1/16000 limitation for bursts is clearly another factor that doesn't allow you to reduce blur yet. It's curious why it exists and if/when a newer firmware can remove it to shoot bursts at 1/80000.

The a9 iii has max shutter speed of 1/80000, but you only use up to 1/16000. Any reason why? Still looks amazing btw.
@AlphaCreativeSkills Жыл бұрын
At 1/80000 second you are restricted to the single shooting drive mode (on both the A1 and the A9lll). As good as I am, I need to use Continuous Shooting mode to capture speeding bullets. The A1 can shoot at 1/3200 second in continuous shooting but its 30fps is only available when NOT using AF Tracking. The A9lll can shoot 120 FPS without AF restrictions so long as you are using a compatible lens (most late model Sony lenses).

@@AlphaCreativeSkills So the 1/80000 reach is just going to be useful for underexposure rather than fast capture if limited to single shot?

What kind of memory card write speed would you need to get the full 120 fps? Is an sd card even possible?
@AlphaCreativeSkills11 ай бұрын
Fast memory cards are required to clear the buffer quickly. The camera can shoot 120fps with slow memory cards, but it will just take much longer to clear the buffer so you can shoot the next burst.

Overkill for most, but an essential bit of kit if your picture editor expects the hero shot every single time.

@@AlphaCreativeSkills Not just photography, it's simply the best cinema camera as well. There is no FF global shutter, not any global shutter cine camera as good as thia camera with 4K@120fps real time and performs really well in low light. I'm more a videographer than a photographer and still holding back because I wanna see how it performs in 4K@60-120fps under bad LED lighting. That zero rolling shutter at 4K@120fps is a killer feature because even 7.7ms for a7SIII was noticeable at times.

Since my first DSLR in 1991 I have held up the global shutter sensor as the holy grail of sensor design - it’s a much much bigger development compared to mirrorless technologies, as this is the death sentence for the mechanical shutter. I am glad to have lived long enough to witness this landmark camera. Every second photographer at the Olympics this year will be using or wish they were using this camera. I have taken a screenshot of your comment so I can use it in future seminars as this technology becomes more common in the decades that follow.
