If I have a 38 feet short approach jump(6 steps) what distance should my full jump look like?
@oolamigoke2 ай бұрын
There is no guaranteed way or formula to tell. In theory, it should be further, but that all depends on your strength and ability to handle the increased approach speed.

Lots of people are asking about how frequently you can do this. You can do it daily after workouts, or just 3-4 times per week. If your body responds well to it, there’s no reason you can’t do it after every workout.

This was incredibly helpful! Thank you very much for sharing. If you don't mind, I had a brief question about speed management in the triple jump, which is where I typically struggle the most. After my hop phase completion, when my leg hits the ground to enter the step phase after cycling, I can't seem to get off the ground quick enough to maintain proper form. How did you learn to be quick during your ground contact and your cycling in general? I would greatly appreciate any advice you can offer.
@oolamigoke4 ай бұрын
Glad this has been helpful for you and thanks for supporting the channel as always! There could be a few things going on worth looking at: 1. You may be going too high in your hop phase to get off the ground quick enough into the step phase 2. You may be running too fast for your technique to keep up 3. Your foot may be striking too far in front of you from hop to step. All of these things could be happening together. Try setting up a camera to the side of the runway and do the resetting the clock drill in this video. Then study the footage to see at which point you’re losing your speed, going too high, or where your form breaks down. This drill should help you self diagnose the issue from there 🤝

My step phase is very weak, my knee seems to have issues with that second bound. any suggestions to improve knee strength?
@notthebishops4 ай бұрын
Based on a lot of my research, doing drop jumps off a small ledge or the bottom step of a stairway is a great way to work on your knee strength. Bounding is also an option if you have access to a decently big and flat yard, or you have a field of some sort nearby (that isn't covered in chicken poop like mine). Olu might have something different to mention, but from my experience, both of those work well. Just make sure to do them often (every day or every other day) to maintain the strength you gain over time.
@oolamigoke4 ай бұрын
This is the way👆🏿 Bounding and other plyometrics are vital as a jumper. I’ll add that bounding should be your first method of improving your leg strength, and though you don’t necessarily need to do them every day, doing some version of plyometric work 2-4 times per week depending on your ability level will work wonders for you. Check out the beginner plyometrics video I uploaded to this channel for more.

Thank you so much man. I really appreciate the advice. I’m 17 and My current best at a meet was 13.38m and for this season I’m pushing to hit 14.20m. My biggest problems are that I’m too high on my hop phase, so then I almost get no distance from my step phase.(my step phase literally looks like a step). When I stay low on the hop phase I my chest faces down and I still struggle to get distance from the step phase. When I do stay low on the hop phase and I keep my chest facing up I still can’t manage to get an explosive step phase to propel me into the jump phase. I really don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

hey I've been watching your videos for a while and I have a question. Is it possible for you to review my triple jump and give me some feedback? I'm a grade 7 triple jumper trying to make it pro. Yes I will give the money. If you say yes, can you tell me where to send the video of me jumping?
@oolamigoke4 ай бұрын
I do paid film reviews, but the best piece of advice I can give you is free: at your age, you will be better off learning the event for the fun of it, and not being concerned about becoming pro any time soon. You're young, and you can have a much brighter future for yourself in this sport if you avoid putting that type of pressure on yourself this early.

So I recently reworked my run up and all my phases (mainly 1st) and so I carry speed significantly better. However it feels way to fast for me to get a real 2nd or 3rd phase. I just end up sort of quickly stumbling through the 2nd and 3rd after the 1st phase. Is there anything I can do to help with that.

With such low height the weight force could be incremented of few points percentage..something very few compared to an average squat performed by an elite sprinter which is even again less compared to the weight force producted in real athletic motion

YOU’RE BACK!!! Yessss. I’ve been hoping you’d come back with your quality videos soon. I love the in-depth explanations. How many times would you say you’ve programmed these position drills into each week of your training? Also, can you show us how to do the double and single arm over that female athletes typically learn?
@oolamigoke6 ай бұрын
Glad you’re enjoying the detailed breakdowns, and glad to be back! I would do these drills during the warm up before every jump session so you can rehearse the proper mechanics, then apply them soon after. I can also do a video covering that arm technique, but it’s not something I’ve ever used… so maybe I’ll do a review of an athlete who does.

Awesome glad you are back. Please forget to give your thoughts on double arm vs single arm in TJ. Asking because I notice girls typical stick to single arm and I was wondering why.
@oolamigoke6 ай бұрын
Female jumpers tend to use single arm movements because the general consensus is that “they don’t develop enough force using the double arm”. This may be true at younger ages, but I don’t think it truly applies at the elite level. Case in point: Thea LaFond (2024 World Indoor Champion and 15m jumper) has been using the double arm technique for years now to great success. She and I were actually training together around the time when she decided to try out the double arm technique. The rest is history. So I think the reason why women tend to use single arm technique over double arm is at least in part to them being taught that at a young age. However, when they mature physically and develop strength, they stick with single arm because it’s what they know, not because they’re incapable of using the double arm. Hope that helps!
