I like your partridge! So much Katie sparkle! The house ornament your mom made is wonderful! I continue to be in love with your daffodils. I understand completely on the need to make leaves as you go, as I usually end up doing all the leaves for a panel at the end, which becomes rather tedious. I should make more of an effort to make leaves as I go along!

What a wonderful video! Your tree is beautiful, love all the versions of Santa’s and Mrs Claus. Did you see Mr. Frosty? He’s adorable. Beaded flowers are gorgeous. Of course after watching your video all I want to do is stitch Christmas ornaments.

I had to laugh at your Merry Christmas to all ornament. As a Canadian, it would probably go over well here, but I’m pretty sure we would be not wishing Auston Matthews any holiday joy, if the amount of yelling my partner does at him is any indication! Every time I think I’ve done enough Christmas ornaments for the year, I keep making more. My solution for running out of tree is just to have more trees. 🌲

Your tree is gorgeous, and filled with so much eye candy! I love your variations of the cross stitched ornaments, and the felt ornaments, OH MY!! You do such beautiful work, and have such a great eye for color. The daffodils for your flower basket are just amazing! I would just love to sit and watch you making these just to see how it is done! I wish you a very Merry Christmas and I know that you will enjoy your family time. Looking forward to 2025!

Thank you! It's very boring, just me sitting and squinting at a petal for hours on end! Peyote stitch is like bricking Legos, but with beads and a needle - no variety at all. Oddly enough, I find it very soothing and hardly notice time passing, but it'd be a lot like watching someone do vast amounts of block stitching!

I chuckled at your ending when you mentioned your tutorial videos.. I went down quite the rabbit hole yesterday after watching your briolette tutorial. I've got all sorts of ideas, and all sorts of ornaments that need finishing.. all I need is time and some more sparkly bits. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge so freely! 🪡👠

Comments like this make all the work worth it! I'm so glad, and I hope you have a wonderful time exploring all the possibilities of sparkly finishing!
@teller0073 күн бұрын
I do beading. That is a rondelle bead, the donut shaped bead. A briolette is more a flattened shaped teardrop with a hole drilled across the top normally. Just fyi. Nice cardinal and like the take on mixed media.
@teller0073 күн бұрын
I checked your source. I know Artbeads. They are a good source especially the Austrian crystal. I don’t know why they are calling it a briolette (very misleading) but if you look closer down on the page for style it mentions rondelle. Usually rondelles are listed for the size as 4x6mm or 3x5mm. But I could tell just by your work you are using premium crystal rondelles .The knife edge one is more a bicone not a rondelle. What nonsense of them, utter nonsense. Toho and Miyuki seed beads are considered the best in seed beads in finish and uniformity. Both Japanese beads. Czech are good too. It is if one needed to find a different source for beads, you are using the wrong industry standard names.
@katiestrachanembroidery3 күн бұрын
Terminology depends on the manufacturer. In this case, they have a briolette bead, which is what you see here, and a top drilled, faceted teardrop which they call a briolette pendant. Roundelle is reserved for knife edge. As my sources are all for that, I used the manufacturer's terms.
@katiestrachanembroidery3 күн бұрын
They get their terminology directly from the manufacturer.

Loved seeing your holiday stitching, but I had to smile when you showed Stacy Nash Ginger Bread pattern .. I did attend her class over the weekend and have a finish but mine had what I call a Katie touch. On the back where there are snowflakes to stitch I had added crystal sequins. Errrmmm love it. Looking forward to seeing your take and perhaps will inspire a Katie style second house using the additional the second pattern ❤

Did your mom forget the hand on her Santa decoration? You both do amazing work and i love your hockey decoration! I would have put Marchand on mine!
@katiestrachanembroidery4 күн бұрын
Marchand is an excellent choice! Personally, I'd have gone for Trouba, but really, so many to choose from. Rivalry runs deep in hockey fandom! As to the Santa - she recharted the hand. If you look at the original, because he has a dark mitten on it looks like he's holding a gun. I didn't see it at first - mine has the charted hand - but now that it's been pointed out I can't unsee it. She didn't think that was in the Christmas spirit so she changed the shape of the hand.

So much great stuff! I would love to see a rerun of the dove next year. This year was a financial disaster for us and I just couldn't justify any stitchy spending, but I would love to get a dove kit next year! Same for the gingerbread house -- I adore gingerbread houses so it seems only right to make that my first Stacey Nash. Right now I'm having a wonderful time stitching a set of five Danish missed (elves) -- which are actually bead patterns from my teen years. Happy stitchy holidays!
@katiestrachanembroidery4 күн бұрын
Happy holidays to you and yours as well! I'm very sorry to hear that, but the list is growing so there is a chance the doves will return. It will ultimately all depend on numbers because they are an insane amount of work to put together - it's only practical at scale.

I'm so glad someone else appreciates it too! My brother showed me that tweet a couple of years ago and I wrote it down as something that had to be an ornament one day. I can't wait for Christmas morning, he's going to howl with laughter. Truly, a sentiment all hockey fans can agree on!

Hi Katie, love all the ornaments and your wips! Isn’t Bride Cake a gorgeous linen? I am currently stitching an ornament in it as well (from Inga Palmgren’s Swedish Christmas Calendar book) in all red. Would it be possible to say where you got the wool felt from for your Fortnum and Mason ornament and the details on it. I might try making some gingerbread man ornaments this year.
@katiestrachanembroidery4 күн бұрын
Thank you! Bride Cake is just fabulous, colors really pop on it. For felt you'll have to hunt, but the embellishments are all from Caravan Beads. Miyuki seed beads, bugle beads, and cut hex beads - it's so hard to guess colors online, but that's how I end up with so much stash to pull from! If it's not right for one project, I'll find another for it eventually...

100% on the “Matthew tiachuk is an a-hole”. That is unless he is yours. Always called Dumba a dumbass. Now he is ours , so he is okay. Same with Corey Perry a few years ago. 😂. The Partridge is great. With the doves you’ve got a good start on a “12 days “series. !! Especially since golden rings are birds too. I just found that out thanks to momma GB/ Michelle

Preach! Although I think a lot of the league learned to love Corey Perry (I can't believe I'm typing that) as he got older and his troll antics became more clever and funny. My brother and I must have watched the video of him squirting water in an opponent's gloves a half dozen times, laughing hysterically. He elevated trolling to an art form!
