There's another guy on KZbin that just popped the hinge out with a flathead screwdriver pretty sure it's not big enough to hurt anyone? Then he compresses the spring with a vice then zip ties it together one spring down from top and bottom pops the spring back in compress the door a little bit to hold it then torch the zip ties with a long candle lighter and Bam easy Peezy

@terrywalters5410 wow.. that’s a unicorn. Very nice!! I love all the S10’s not just the racing type. I drove one for years when I was a teenager. Swapped a few with 350’s. Just something about them. Yeah they are not a 55 Chevy or anything, but that is just what I like. Good luck with your upgrades and build and thanks again for watching and commenting. Always good to hear from folks and see what they are doing.

You put this out during my bedtime, so it's good to wake up with a new video. Using a drill press as a makeshift lathe was a good idea and I don't think it weakened the shaft since you only took off the "excess". Thanks for another video brother. If you don't mind me asking, when you did your front brake swap, what did it cost you at the junkyard? And did you just disconnect the upper and lower balljoint and tierod and take the whole unit?
@dtperformance256
@dtperformance256 3 күн бұрын
@yourpcmd I tried to get it published right after dinner but had issues. I don’t think the shaft was compromised either but wanted to get feedback. Yeah I thought the drill would work better but I think my bolt had a slight bend that caused the shaft to wobble a little. Still turned out great though. The complete front brake assembly was $130 for both sides. Yes, I just disconnected the tie rods, upper and lower ball joint and purchased the complete assembly. Make sure to get the brake line brackets that attach to the frame or you will have tricky brake line angles if you use the first gen brake line brakets. The second gen brake line brackets make routing much easier. Thanks so much for the super thanks support! The views and comments are much appreciated as well!!!

Don, RockAuto carries Sonnax transmission and driveline parts. Go to the part number search tab and check your part number by manufacturer. Looks like the Sonnax Automatic Transmission Case Bushings 34006-SPB is ~ $6 - 7 cheaper at RA plus you can get a 5% discount on top of the cheaper prices. Not a lot I know but $6 - 7 over time adds up. Good video.

I have a 1994 S10 I'm doing an LS swap in and I have a question. Will the Holly Blackheart Steering Shaft work in my application? Isn't the 1994 S10 the first year of the 2nd generation? How much of a steering shaft difference is there between the 94 and the 93? The reason I want to go to manual is because this is the 2nd S10 that I've LS swapped and the 6.0 L I installed in the 98 year truck had clearance issues with the power steering pump. I had to swap to a smaller pully and grind the head off one of the bolts of the steering box to give me the clearance I needed. I have a pinion angle vibration issue in my 98 S10 and I tried to raise the tailshaft of the transmission to level the engine and transmission. Guess what, the power steering pump pully came in contact with the steering auto gearbox and I couldn't. I dont want to have this problem with the 94 S10. Thanks for the video.

@irwin6794 Thanks for watching and commenting!! Holley/Hooker Blackheart says the steering shaft for a 1994-2004 is their part number 71223021HKR. I am not exactly sure of the differences but I can tell you this steering shaft allows for way more clearance than a stock steering shaft. I had the exact same issues and without buying more expensive brackets my power steering pump was hitting as well. I have had many manual steering S10’s and they are not that bad to drive. You may have a tough time finding a manual box for a 1994. Thise things are hard to find, at least for a first gen anyway. I want to say I have heard….don’t know for sure but the second generation S10’s did not have a manual steering option. I would have to double check that. Again, thanks for watching and I hope this was of some kind of help.
@irwin6794
@irwin6794 27 күн бұрын
@@dtperformance256 No they do not have a manual option. Rockauto has a manual steering box for a 1993. It looks like it would work for my 94. I have a manual transmission so the Hooker Blackheart Steering Shaft 1983-1993 S10 Part Number 71223022HKR looks like it would work. I'm going to gamble and take a chance. Look up LARES part number 11472 it looks like it would fit in the same 3 holes in the frame of my 94. Thanks for your help.

How did you get the spring in?
@dtperformance256
@dtperformance256 Ай бұрын
@derpy_llama6149 The spring will go in easy by hand and then just adjust the tension. When you look at the spring it has a flat piece of the spring one on end. This is the back of the spring. This faces toward the rear of the truck with the tang or bent clip looking piece to the inside toward the floor. The open end will go toward the front of the truck over the brake caliper line. It will fit just over the nut on the brake caliper line. You will set the tension on the brake line under the cab at the “y” shape connector. It has a threaded rod. I backed my rod out to make sure I had plenty of adjustment for later on if the cable stretches a little. Thanks for watching and I hopes this helped you out. If you still have questions, please ask and I will do my best to help you figure it out.

Do you know what oil pan can fit in a s10 1993 motor 5.3
@dtperformance256
@dtperformance256 Ай бұрын
@user-yi2fk8bl1d I used the replica of the Holley 302-1 because it doesn’t hang down past the crossmember. It is supposed to give you the most clearance, but I still had to notch my crossmember. I have see guys use the stock pan and the GM muscle car pan with good fitment results but the pan will hang under the crossmember by a couple of inches. The only pan that I myself have experienced is the replica of the 302-1. I did alot of research and still wound up notching my crossmember. Look up the GM muscle car pan and compare the dimensions. There are spec sheets all over the internet. I have a video on the oil pan that I used and you can see the clearance in the notch the frame videos I made. A 1993 would be the same as my 92 in my videos if you want to see what clearance I had. Links to the oil pan and notch video below so you can see the fitment. I hope this helps you figure out what you want to use. Thanks for watching and the question. One thing that you could do and I didn't think about this until now, is to put the bolts in and tighten them. then weld the nuts on the underneath. I just finished putting a BTR Truck Norris cam in my buddy's 2014 Caprice PPV aluminum 6.0 The aluminum threads in the block stripped out when I went to install it all back together. What a pain in the ass this was! This had been apart before and and I assume it was the police department that did this... Either way they screwed it up bad! I had to drill out, tap and place special inserts in every head bolt hole in the block. There is a guy who sells a kit on eBay #NS300L for doing these. It's pricey but worth it! If your son is tearing down his aluminum LS and has trouble or plans on adding boost, I would highly recommend that kit! Also use ARP headbolts! They can be reused unlike the GM headbolts. The cam works good and sounds awesome! This 6.0 has tons of torque now!

@jeffallen3382 For sure ARP! Aside from my LS S10 build we are going to build my son’s 07 non DOD 5.3. Truck Norris cam for sure. I have a set of 243 heads and some 706’s. I think we are going with the 706’s for his truck and the 243’s for my S10. That sucks about the stripped out threads. My heart would sink after finding that. Sounds like you got a good repair and are on your way to getting it going. I wish I could start a 6.0 build but I am too deep in the 5.3 to turn around now. Definitely keep me posted on how it goes! @jeffallen3382 Yeah down here in bama they are easy to find. But with the prices after the Covid era they are high priced like everywhere else.

You dont test pressure with the cooler line ports. There is a pressure teat port on the drivers side of the case that is used. This is a 1/8th npt theeaded port.

@jeffallen3382 Thanks for the correction. I am learning how to work on the TH400 and I saw where someone said one of the cooler ports was pressure and one was return. Thanks for letting me know and thanks for watching! I will go back and make the correction in the video!

@@dtperformance256 no problem! Technically there is a pressure and return on those cooler line ports. But those are not what's used for diagnosis of the transmission "pressure" circuit.

@jeffallen3382 Good to know. Thanks again for commenting. I picked that info up from someone else and I didn’t think that one of the cooler lines had that much pressure on it, but again I didn’t know and was trusting of what they told me. What you are saying makes more sense to me. I dont want to give out incorrect information so I really appreciate it!

@jeffallen3382 I got the video edited and found a pdf of the ATSG TH400 manual that details the port to check pressure. Thank God for people like you that are helpful and not jumping on here to beat me up. Again, I appreciate the info Jeff.

You can also get the GM 19212593 pan for a decent price for LS swaps. It's much cheaper than a Holley, surprisingly enough.

@dtperformance256 You can also find F Body crate engine take offs for even cheaper. 160 to 180 bucks with pan, windage tray, dip stick, pickup tube gasket, and filter.

@ michealblack9189. Yes it will work. The four bolt boxes have more turns lock to lock, but the three bolt box will work just fine fine. I am referring to the bolts on top of the gear box and not the blots that mount it to the frame. I couldn’t remember if i said that in the video…lol.
