Iodine dip for me usually either saves them or prolongs its life. I've had a Fungai plate that was 8 inches in diameter. Had a lot of tissue recession and brown slime. Did a dip for 15 minutes. Back into thank and the next morning tentacles were out and I saw it healing. It lasted another 4 months before dying. No clue why. It was 2 years old.

I’m new to the saltwater hobby. Couldn’t you just get rid of the starfish yourself or no?
@tylerhogg2241Ай бұрын
Yes and no... they are hard to spot sometimes in the rocks and sand so you can try to pick them out as you see them but it would never really end and they would always be in the tank, they reproduce very quickly and can break into pieces, all of which would grow into a new starfish, Its crazy
@Mike2k30Ай бұрын
Yeah my fish hate the red seaweed. It's almost like tabacco leaves 🤔
@brandimiller6423Ай бұрын
this sounds terrible but.... buy a big star fish. put it in the freezer then blend it up and freeze into cubes to feed the shrimp
@TrevorHillerАй бұрын
I’m definitely in camp harlequin shrimp should be rental only. While it happens in the wild, I’m not ethically on board with feeding live animals to live animals personally. Kudos for having the guts to discuss the topic as it’s a worthy ethical discussion. Personally, I think I’m more on board with just dropping the starfish in and letting nature take its course. Something about keeping it alive to feed pieces of it just isn’t a good look for the marine aquarium hobby. Although I’m also the same person who tries to not siphon up bristle worms when cleaning the tank so I don’t kill them…. 🤷♂️ On the bright side, I’m sure your engagement on this video is going to be through the roof! 😂
@discusaddictionАй бұрын
Should be drip aclimating inverts!
@TrevorHillerАй бұрын
Ever order from reef cleaners? Probably the largest online seller of inverts. They do not recommend drip acclimation for them. Float to acclimatize temp and drop. I’ve done their method every time with great success. My opinion is drip acclimation is generally not required for inverts.
@NoelG-IREАй бұрын
My LFS don’t sell Harlequins. They will point you to the local reef club who have a few that they share between tanks. It’s not something you want in a tank permanently. Adding a starfish to feed a shrimp is mind boggling. The starfish will also die eventually. I’ve never seen one survive in a tank less than 100 gallons You should also roll up the seaweed more. Don’t make it so easy for them.
@DreamStateLivingАй бұрын
Oh that rent a shrimp for the local clubs is great! Gonna roll the seaweed more, thanks!
@anubis3amАй бұрын
The legs won't regenerate quick enough if your feeding a leg at a time. If I were you I would put the whole thing in and not feel bad as it happens in the wild.

@nabokovfan87Ай бұрын
It's definitely tough to have to do things like this. I wonder why they don't sell them frozen as an option. I read online that someone got their shrimp to eat some frozen brine. Maybe yours will too and it's worth a shot. It's tough because that shrimp is absolutely hungry and trying to sustain itself.
@DreamStateLivingАй бұрын
I have to see if I can get it to eat some brine!
@Sammy31DeeАй бұрын
Typical LFS should take a harlequin back and give you a small credit for it....they're expensive even for the fish store... they can rehome them or at least offer them feedings till rehomed...or you can snip a chocolate starfish leg off and feed him routinely but I'm more of a hire the shrimp then Rehome the shrimp type of person....I always hated cutting the poor chocolate star legs off
@DreamStateLivingАй бұрын
:,(
@anizatoАй бұрын
you should consider a couple of Chocolate Chip starfish. Supposedly Harlqeuins will eat one arm off of one, and when its the next meal, they will eat the leg off the other one, giving time for the leg of the first starfish to start regrowing. They are pretty smart. Plus, it takes about a month for them to finish a whole 3-4" CC Starfish, they are ($10 on liveaquaria) On another note, if you fold the algae real tight on the clip it'll prevent it from floating around in the tank and it'll keep your tangs occupied for hours. Snails don't live very long, so don't feel bad, you didn't do anything wrong. (;
@DreamStateLivingАй бұрын
I dont think CC starfish are reef safe? Gonna give the more rolled up seaweed a try, my fish are strong! 😂
@anizatoАй бұрын
@@DreamStateLiving can you keep the CC starfish in the refugium though? Also, I found an ebay site that sells asterinas, maybe you can supplement with those? How fast will your shrimp eat 50 asterinas? How fast do asterinas grow? Can you keep a bunch in the refugium? I really want your shrimp to thrive LOL.. I am so vested! Such an amazing little dude!
@zacharylewis417Ай бұрын
@@DreamStateLiving Nope not reef safe. CC stars will eat coral.

Bought a Calico Oranda there. Spent $100s fighting whatever it gave my tank. It died. My black moor still has fungus on its eyes and my ryukin still has spots on its dosal. Gues they don't treat their fish like aquarium coop that the door says they're partnered with
