Tried booking direct flights from Toronto to Funchal. Appears that they all stopover at Ponta Delgada. Maybe we are mistaken?

They only offer the direct flight during the summer months, June to September I think. 2024 was the first year they offered it. We flew from Madeira to Toronto in June this year, flight is great, home on same day, but it was an early day. We just arrived in Madeira yesterday, the stop over in Ponta Delgada was less than an hour. It gives a few minutes to stretch your legs.

We have been to Madeira many times until 2019, but due to health issues, have not been able to visit. Hoping to visit again soon. Enjoy your stay in Madeira...a beautiful place!

Hi John, just heard that Sata has cancelled the direct flights for this summer 2025. We fly with Sata and stop in the Azores, it's normally a short stop and not a hassle as our bags go all the way to Madeira.

Yum! I had this last year when it was offered as a "prato do dia" at one of my favorite restaurants in Funchal and since moving here early last month I've been back several times hoping they offer it again. But with at least 365 or maybe even 1000 ways to cook bacalhau in Portugal overall and presumably in Madeira too, I haven't caught another day Bacalhau com Natas has been on offer. 😞 I'll definitely be trying your recipe soon. 🙂 Thanks for the tips on deboning cod. Thanks for your comment. When you try this recipe, I highly recommend incorporating the Bechamel sauce (I didn't). It makes a world of a difference adding a smoother texture and richer flavour. Let me know how you make out with it. 🥰😋

Nice! Looks delicious! If worry of being dry, and some do, pour some milk overtop before baking -- makes 'em gooey and oh so nice! (Milk = skim, 2%, whole, heavy cream or the like). Be Safe
