Bravo Rayan! 😃Yes, you are right when you say that Adam Savage mentions about a guy who made a ten thousand dollar camera stand ... and you know why? I sent him your link a few days after you posted your video, I'm glad to know that it wasn't in vain and he looked at it. And he was also inspired by your boxes to arrange things and he has put them on sale ... Alexander you are getting big!

Dear this video, sorry you didn't do too well and did not get the usual number of people watching you. You have a spreadsheet and a proper scientific method and all kinds of matrices of tests. This is total bonkers overkill and dedication to the cause of finishing wood and you get a big hug from me. 5:56 Water does not stop the reaction of the oily rags. It just delays it, till they are dry again. After that, they may still ignite. Leave the rags out to open air for a day, then dispose of them next day. The hardening reaction should be done after that. Alternatively, put them in an air tight container and they will not harden, so you can reuse the rag, or sponge. ive seen people use old pickle jars for example.

Great and very informative video. For high-use surfaces such as drawer fronts I can also recommend bi-component PU conversion lacquers. They exist in ultra matt and some are also lightly pigmented, such that the optics and feeling of the wood are largely preserved while providing far superior resistance to the environment than oil-based finishes. 2h drying time between coats, 2 coats, so you can finish your whole projet in half a day. I have had good experiences with Hesse Lignal.

This was a really informative video. I loved it! Not sure if you can find them in Europe but clear "nano" or "ceramic" finishes wiped on over Rubio to provide extra protection are becoming popular. I'd be curious to know how much, if any, additional protection they provide since they seem to be extremely expensive. Keep up the great work!

I’ve heard others here on YT say that they sand to 180 grit without any issue with Osmo and Rubio. In fact some have said 120 is just too rough for a finished piece. But incase you’re wondering about Osmo Polyx in “Raw” which has the light amount of white pigment to hold wood’s natural color without yellowing or getting orangey… it’s stunning! I tested on two sanded pieces of Hickory at 180 grit and it does a good job of covering with a tiny amount. Yes it’s expensive but holy cow it goes a long way and the point is to really rub in the least amount possible otherwise it pulls and remains tacky or it can’t dry!!! It’s hard to describe it, it’s an oil finish no doubt but it didn’t orange up the hickory, in fact as it’s drying it’s lightened some close to the raw sections of hickory but there is a big difference between the Raw oil applied areas and the actual raw wood and that is the depth of color… I mean the Raw oil made all the depths and variations of color and grain in the hickory suddenly show up. It’s gorgeous and I’m very picky about finishes. I hate staining wood, sometimes it’s needed but I love to appreciate the wood as it naturally is except for some protection. It’s like applying a water based polyurethane only with Osmo polyx raw you can see and feel the grain and not that it’s fuzzy or rough but there isn’t that awful layer of plastic on top that ruins the wood. To see someone using it check out Tamar at 3x3 Custom where she applied it to her daughter’s white oak, platform bed and it’s stunning on the white oak as well but it’s even better in person! The other thing that I like about this is according to Osmo (there’s demo videos here on YT) I can apply their original polyx on top of the Polyx in Raw for more protection and to add more luster. I haven’t tried that yet, but I will and can’t wait to see the results

17:15 As a senior programmer I confirm, ChatGPT's outputs need to be taken with a grain of salt, always read, understood and tried before considering them finished because ChatGPT does exactly what you asked for, and what one asks for is not always that clear. If you got the data you can first feed the samples and tell it that its output needs to take that data and obtain a certain result to hopefully shorten that process (it's like forcing it to use TDD or test-driven development). But if you don't know what the result should be and don't have data, yes, it becomes very obnoxious. Approach it with caution and distrust everything it says or does until you understand everything it has done.

The sanding marks are because you used a rotatory/orbital sander. That is not best for wood. That type of sander is used for metal. Use belt sander or vibrator sander. But, honestly... hand sanding with a block and sand paper (NO PADS) is by far the best way.
@DesconectadoOaxaca
@DesconectadoOaxaca Жыл бұрын
Never heard anyone ever say that a ROS isn't for wood
@joemoya9743
@joemoya9743 Жыл бұрын
@@DesconectadoOaxaca Think about it. An orbital sander rotates in a direction opposite to the wood grain, causing scratches to appear only when the grit moves against the grain. It is impossible to scratch wood when sanding parallel to the grain, which is not feasible with a circular sanding motion. However, the square-shaped vibrating sander is an exception. It can also scratch the grain, although it is less likely to do so because its movement is mostly in one direction, rather than circular. The only advantage of an orbital sander is its speed, as it covers a larger area while aggressively cross grain sanding. The trade-off, however, is that it tends to create more scratches, which are usually not noticeable until stain is applied. In a nutshell, with rotary sanders, and sometimes vibrating sanders if an overly coarse grit is used, hand sanding is almost always necessary thus taking longer to sand not shorter. Also, you'll discover that using the correct grit matching the wood's hardness in hand sanding saves time, as you only need to sand once with the correct grit. However, hand sanding requires more pressure than using a sander, leading to faster fatigue in the forearms and hands making it unpopular. Many beginners tend to over sand the wood and are unaware of how to achieve a fine finish without excessive sanding. Professional woodworkers, on the other hand, typically require only one round of sanding on unfinished wood. An experienced professional can sand an entire set of raw wood kitchen cabinets, similar to yours, in about 3-4 hours (or less). The final finish would then take an additional 2-3 hours for two sanding passes plus finish, applying three thin layers of either water-based or oil-based finishes. The key to their efficiency lies in avoiding the need to sand out scratches and prevent the grain from being raised, which is often caused by sanding machines. Plus, they know how to use the final finish material to reduce sanding time. In short, they sand once and don't back track through each stage. It's worth mentioning that these highly skilled professionals are rare to find. Hand sanding has become a lost art since machines require less physical effort and create the illusion of being faster. It's only when you witness a master craftsman with decades of experience at work that you truly appreciate the difference.
