Pro-Acryl Primer is the most fragile I've ever used but it does dry extremely matte if thats your thing. In my mind primer needs strong adhesion so my Pro-Acryl bottles are going in the trash.

I use brake fluid. I let it soak for a while, and then just wash it with detergent, brushing it with a toothbrush.

Do you have Dettol in your local shop? I've removed the paint from plenty of models with Dettol. There's a trick to it though, keep the model immersed for 3 hours and then keep the model immersed while you take the paint off with an old brush. I've lost count of how many models I've immersed in Dettol. When you're finished, pour the Dettol back into the bottle and you can reuse it too.

Hi 👋 @Graham_Patch! No I don’t know that one but will look for it if you think it works better than the alcohol. Thanks for supporting me and always commenting and thanks for the tip 👍. Happy holidays 🎉

Very helpful ! I've noticed when striping off Tamiya paints with other chemicals that it always seemed to stain the plastic. The paint would come off in some places, but the white plastic would retain some color. Next time I will be using the Alcohol 🙂 👍
@weekendhobbyist14 күн бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting. I don’t know if the alcohol is the best and cleanest but so far I rather use it than the oven cleaner that I used to use. 😁. After stripping I made sure to wash the plastic and then prime before painting just in case.
@zero00-10014 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tutorial since it is a very helpful technique. In the past I had made some mistakes by using paint remover and completely melting and dissolving parts in models, especially for smaller pieces like the antennas and mirrors that completely disintegrated and turned into liquid form. In hobby shops they carried paint removers, but after using it I found out they were better for metal parts since it doesn't break down like plastic parts. From now on I'll definitely turn to 90% Isopropyl Alcohol instead.
@weekendhobbyist14 күн бұрын
I used to use oven cleaner which is bad for my lungs and would probably melt the plastic too if left on for too long. Thanks for watching and supporting me 👍. Happy holidays 🎉

Silver can be a good base coat for pearl white or a darker white in general, but for yellow I agree the paint would need to be stripped off.

The AK474 you sprayed looks more like a brass or even closer to gold than bronze. I got a bottle recently and mine paints on extremely dark. I’m relatively new to painting, any reason this might be the case? I painted on to matte black primer
@weekendhobbyistАй бұрын
Did you shake the paint well maybe for 5 minutes? Gloss black would be ideal.

Thanks for this! I'm trying to determine best color to use on wheels for a Tamiya Porsche RC kit. Wanting to get a polished aluminum look. I need to watch your vid again, but initial thought is that the TS-30 Silver Leaf, with a gloss or semi-gloss coat over might do the trick. Edit: I don't have an air brush (just found your vid of this exact topic), so trying to do this with rattle cans. Your thoughts?
@weekendhobbyistАй бұрын
Thanks for watching and the comment. Also thanks for the edit since I was going to suggest Alclad II Polished aluminum. Otherwise since you don’t have an airbrush try the Tamiya Bare Metal Spray or the Revell Chrome spray.

It also depends on what plastic you apply it. I am testing Vallejo primer on white plastic spoons and testing different mixtures with the Vallejo thinner. It's not super durable, but not too bad. Biggest disadvantage, you can't sand it!

The problem with being a foreigner in a hobby store is that if you were going to fly back home, you wouldn’t be able to bring any of the paint or modeling tools (especially the ones that have sharp tips on them). What I have done is buy a bunch of model kits. That’s it. OK and maybe buy some merch if they have it. That’s what I did when I went to Tamiya Plafactory in Japan. I brought a whole extra suitcase for things I wanted to bring home.

Hello, great comparison! I'm not sure if that's the right video to be asking this under, but I'd give it a shot. I'm preparing a microphone stand as a gift for a friend. It's printed out of ABS plastic. I want to paint it black. I've been sanding it for a while now using automotive filler spray and it's turning okay. I have a couple deeper grooves that I plan to fill with wood filler and sand them down, do you think that's a good idea, or should I look for a plastic filler instead? If you'd recommend plastic filler, do you have any specific products you'd recommend? I also plan to paint it black. Do you think I can just use Mr. Finishing Surface 1500 black and seal it with Mr. Top Coat Flat Spray? Sorry if that's not the right place to ask, you just seem like a knowledgeable person in this field.

Hmm maybe you can use some extra fine milliput? But unless your scratches are very fine the Mr. Surfacer won’t be thick enough.
