I happened to live in the path of this one, so I managed to see it from my own backyard. I will honestly never forget the experience for as long as I live. I'm almost tearing up re-watching this. We are so fortunate to be able to witness something of such cosmic beauty and terror. What a life.

I was at work in Gautier Ms i got off at 3:30 but i got alerts around 3 about a tornado touching down in MossPoint by that time it started to pour down in Gautier so as i got off and headed down 90 towards Pascagoula heavy rain started coming down and the wind got so strong in between bridges that it almost picked my work truck off the ground. As i made it through Pascagoula onto Main st and got in MossPoint i couldn't go past the Advanced autoparts but as i looked down Main st i saw the damage that was done i was left speechless first thing i thought to do was call my family to make sure they were ok thank god everyone was okay.

Can someone tell me, @50:53, is the tornado approaching him from his back right passenger side, or is the tornado Infront of him on the right side moving left over the highway? Thank you! And I'm glad you survived this!

Nothing like seeing a tornado that wouldn't harm anyone be a potential mass casualty situation from all the storm chasers clogging the only road in or out. I mean... at what point do you use Risk Management to assess the area is too crowded and just bail?
@wrayday7149
@wrayday7149 26 күн бұрын
That really sounded like Peter Weller's voice warning you of the rotating storm. I mean.... if Robocop warns you of something..... There could be trouble.

You have got to remember KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid. In a crisis you need short commanding sentences - "You do this!" "I'm doing this" ... as you noticed, when you did long form communications the other person started getting confused. Because they are having to process everything you are saying and they are losing track trying to prioritize all the information.... in a crisis. "Danger! Live Wires". Never report an area as searched unless you walked every inch of it. The way you reported that man looking for his mother came across as there is only one person there and they are fine. When in actuality, there was a missing person. If a persons home collapsed on them they probably have a head injury and can't hear or move. Those rescue workers are concerned about an entire city that needs help and all they heard from you was that entire block is fine and clear. Lastly ... depending on the area .... you need to be extremely careful of not only power but gas. Some areas have gas mains underground leading up to houses and other areas might have propane tanks/natural gas. The further you get out into the country the more likely the home has a large gas tank or two.

ORM!!! (Operational Risk Management) Running across a major road to brace on a miles long barbwire metal wire fence under powerlines to watch a tornado. If something went wrong you have multiple dangerous hazards between you and your escape vehicle. Is a pretty picture of a tornado out in the middle of nowhere worth that risk?

I mean... if you get a CB and get on Trucker comms and tell them there is is a tornado on the highway at <Marker>/ <Town> they would know.... outside of that, it just looks like rain. Most truckers sit back further in the cab and have sun blocks/visors so they can't really see up at spinning clouds. Also... they are probably starting intently at the road ahead, looking for the grey/white car that's going slow and driver not running lights or flashers.... as they do.

I did chase Joplin in 2011. This is why I now volunteer with St John Ambulance, but was further to the east with a hail research crew. Also saw the Moore storm build but headed to the south storm. Covered the aftermath of Moore.

30:49 This & 30:58 this had my jaw fall open. I now live in Spain where we get Gota Frias, & recently had a small tornado some miles south of us in Camposol. We also get earthquakes which are normally quite small. What have we done to the planet that the weather is now out of control in areas in which it wouldn’t normally be as bad?

One think I like about Mr. Shaw is that he's a licensed Ham operator and SKYWARN spotter who radios reports to local repeater nets while on the road. Spotter reports are relayed by net control to the regional NWS office and provide important ground truth (visual confirmation of severe conditions that can't always be confirmed by radar). It helps NWS in getting bulletins with accurate information out to the public quickly. Glad to see he was calling reports in.

So many resources put into action, what an amazing and effective network system!! I had no idea you storm chasers were also part of the vital community warning system and first responding rescue heroes that you are. Our Australian government and emergency services could certainly learn some stuff from you guys. I didn't even get so much as a text message warning me of the incoming tornado, let alone the preceding storm it developed from, that ripped through Tamborine Mountain QLD on the 25th of December 2023, and we didn't see any emergency services or rescue crews 'til well after 16 hours past the event. It was all locals steppin' up looking out for everyone while our government resources were left behind to react because they're not set up to be pro-active like you lot are... I assume that's why, coz otherwise I'd have received a text at the least, wouldn't I have? Great work guys, AMAZING coverage! Thank you.
