Great playing, reminds me a bit of Jimmy Herring. Great tone also, does that guitar have a humbucker in the bridge position?

Yes, it's very Jimmy Herring-inspired. This guitar has a humbucker in the bridge, correct.

Awesome video! To me Robben Ford was the first person to take the Mike Bloomfield style into a jazzier direction. That album changed my life too although I wish I had broken down some of that stuff the way you did back in the day. Regarding the lick, I can't really hear those first 3 or 4 notes you do in his solo before he does the bebob scale thing at 2:50. Anyway it sounds great. Great colors for the dominant 2 sound which I need to work on. Thanks!

Against the E bass, the Dm7(b5) creates an E Altered chord: E7(#5 b9)

I also discovered Russell Malone through Diana Krall's All For You album. When I owned an audio store in 90's, I would often demonstrate stereo systems with All For You and Love Scenes. I made it a point to find out the source of the great guitar playing and have been a fan ever since. I was deeply saddened to find out of him passing at such a young age. I'm listening to Hit That Jive Jack as I write this. After Diana Krall plays a fabulous piano solo, Russell follows with an equally fantastic solo at 2:27 (anyone reading this should take at least a couple of minutes to listen to it). Thank you so much, Andy, for this nice homage to a jazz legend.

I used to run into Russell quite often when we both lived in Atlanta during the 80s. Besides being a great guitarist, he was a fine and quite unique human being. The past couple of weeks have been very difficult. He will be missed by many.
