Beginning Jazz Guitar! Learn how to play SUMMERTIME (Tabs)

This video demonstrates the basic chord shapes that you can use to play the jazz standard "Summertime" on the guitar. I show the common chord voicings and offer my favorite variations on them. This is geared toward the beginner jazz guitarist who wants to learn how to play chords on Jazz Standards.

After I purchased your lesson on smooth jazz lcks, I was able to pickup a new D'Angelico Excel SS from Sweetwater. Its a great guitar and I really enjoy it. I was wondering; do you use flat or round wound strings on your guitars? Thanks for the great music.

at 6:10 shouldn't it be Dm7(b5)?

Against the E bass, the Dm7(b5) creates an E Altered chord: E7(#5 b9)

Hello - Reverb, Delay (quite a bit), Compression (a little), and Tremolo (enough so that you hear it).

@@derekdrummond9018 I don't know Dude ? I Shroomed up and hit my bong 2 times; and I still couldn't discern "Summertime, In that Chord laden rendition.. In fact I'd be willing to bet If the lesson wasn't titled .. "Learn how to play SUMMERTIME" ? Between 75 to 95% wouldn't recognize it as Summertime. And would Guess it to be some of the background music from "Charlie Brown's Christmas" Just Say'n
