Hey Kyle, I spent the last 2.5 years trying to become a paratrooper just to go to depo, get a partial tear on my Achilles on week 2 which led me to realise the military wasn't for me in terms of how things are done and the mindset of people in it. I gone back to PT and triathlon coaching but feel like I let everyone down and I'm disappointed that I didn't love it Any advice?
@KyleSmithFIT3 күн бұрын
Mate you gotta do what’s right for you, if you didn’t like it you didn’t like. Joining the parachute regiment is very very difficult, it’s an acquired taste in terms of how they treat you through training and at your unit, it not easy for them first few years. You may have joined a different role more you may not have, as long as your happy with what your doing now bud I don’t think it matters. Keep doing you 👊

Train for it but don’t be to hard on yourself if you don’t get the time you want it’s very busy and can be hard to get moving at the paces you want, constantly weaving in and out of people. Get there early so you can use the toilet and get in to your pen, again it’s very busy. It’s just a good class event in my opinion, just enjoy it

I have recently left the Reserves, I also served in the Regulars. Pay wise, the unit I was with offered 1/2 day pay for drill night if you did your own PT before a drill night. 2 x Weekends per month, 2 1/2 days for each, so around 9 or 10 days each month. Ex Regs promotion was easy so to get to Cpl on a decent daily rate adds up to a good supplement to your main income. Reserves want you to stay so they will offer good incentives to stay. Yes, lots are not at the standard of Regulars, but many are, you make it what you want. The bounty is mega, do the minimum training and around £2000+ drops into your account every April.

10 minute warm up (steady jog) 400 meters at 7:30 minute per mile. (Aim to do 400 meters in 1 minute and 53 seconds) then jog 200 meters to recover, slowly. Repeat this 4 times Then cooldown, 10 minute slow jog/walk

Hi Kyle this year I’m trying to get better with my stamina and body weight excisises. Do you have any tips?
@KyleSmithFIT10 күн бұрын
Long runs, slow steady at a pace wheee you can hold a conversation when running. If you can’t do that use the run walk method (run till you can’t run no more then walk, then run again). Body weight exercises, just do them every day, keep practicing and build it up. Maybe start with 3x 10reps of press up, squats, burpees and sit ups. Once you can do that do 3x20reps, the 3x30 reps etc. Turn up every day put some work in and you will see progress, it’s more about consistency and commitment than anything else.

Add speed and interval sessions to your plan. Just do a quick KZbin or google search you should be able to find something. Probably would not need to do anything over 6 miles, short, sweet and fast 👌

Afternoon Kyle, I'm currently considering joing either the Navy or Army and have a couple of questions i think you might be able to help me with; 1. I'm 26, currently finishing a degree this june and so would be looking to join after that, i've seen a few things in the navy saying you can join as an officer if you already have a degree, and long term i would love a leadership role. I love ships and all things seafaring and am a strong leader, do you think it's possible to work my way up to say a captain or even an admiral, given my age? 2. what roles would you reccomend if so? 3. I have seen some interesting positions on the army side of things which offer master degrees alongide your service which also interest me, do you know much about this and the process of joining the military? 4. I'm also very interested in mechanised units in the Army, and would love to pursue possibly a tank crew member role or something along those lines, but am pretty clueless on all of this so not sure how it works. Any help would be greatly appreciated mate, thanks alot. 👍
@KyleSmithFIT11 күн бұрын
Hello mate, Firstly if you have a degree i would definitely recommend exploring joining as an officer. In my opinion just better chance of firstly making more money and climbing the ranks in a quicker time. When you go to leave the military and are looking at possible jobs, having been a officer in the military goes a long way. 1. yes it is definitely possible, hard work but possible. 2. I can't speak for the Navy too much, but it depends what you would like to do i guess, submariner ? very good money and lots of good trades available, royal marines ? Great unit, probably one of the best in the military. Lots of great opportunities. You will have to see what you would like to do and take a chance with a role, speak with your recruiter also they will be able to help. 3. Yes the Army has lots to offer also, REME officer, working on apache's etc.. or Royal engineers are going if you fancy doing mechanical. 4. Get yourself to your local recruitment centre, they will be able to go in depth over all the roles, they will give you some stuff to think about and give you advice on which you are most likely to get in. Hope this helps bud, good luck.

Cheers bud, definitely doable mate. I would say atleast get 3-4 runs in before the your assessment date, practise the bell test again. But at the end of the day it’s not too far away so your probably not gonna be able to improve fitness that much, it’s gonna be a case of hanging in there on the date and grafting your arse off, hopefully the pressure will spur you on when your up there. I have found Army Reservists a lot more enthusiastic about their training as they have volunteered to be there. For a lot of Reservists, it double hats as a part time job and an interest or hobby. Some regs I have come across lack enthusiasm when it comes to training as they no choice but to be there as it's their job. There are good and bad soldiers in the regs and reserves alike and to brand all reservists lacking the skills to do the job is simply not true. Maybe if you would have stayed a bit longer in the reserves after you transfered from the regs, then maybe you would have had a fair chance to truly witness the dedication, enthusiasm and valued skills that reservists bring to todays modern armed forces of this country.
