Hi Jon, such lovely words, you never fail to pile on the praise…………. I am humbled. I always think that you can only be as good as the piece of music which you are playing will let you be. I have found some beautiful music over the past four or five years and I’m still finding plenty more. There is always another tune or another song, they are never ending……….. you just have to look. This one has been sitting on my list for at least two years, I’ve finally found the right instrument to do it justice…….I’m so glad you enjoyed this one too. Well, the big day approaches and so we turn to festive tunes / songs and other Christmas music…….. I seem to struggle a little more each year with new Christmas material as I have covered most of the old ones ……… so this year is yet another challenge. Morning Krishna, thank you for responding to my latest arrangement ‘Colours of the Wind’ a song from the musical Pocahontas. A song which amongst others, Vanessa Williams had a great success with and as you said, it definitely suited the Burn’s Dream……… Yes, the ‘ Big ‘ day groweth ever closer and with it comes the usual traditions. I think at the last count, we had 7 Christmas tree’s, ( a little bit OTT )……… but,………….. I’ve learned over the years how to nod, agree and say ‘yes dear’. It’s by far the easiest option. We do go far over the top as our back garden is festooned with lights / reindeer’s and meteor dropping lights all the way around. ( apparently they can see us from as far away as ‘Mars ‘.) It’s a happy time and I guess that with the world as it is today that can’t be a bad thing. Enjoy the season, eat drink and be merry. Ciao for now. Hi Al……. Thanks for your response to my arrangement of ‘ Colours of the Wind ‘, my last normal instrumental before the Christmas instrumentals if I do any……… Not to thrilled as I’ve done most of them already and there’s not a lot of new stuff so I think I may just take a Christmas break. I will see how I feel next week…… Derby let me down today……. ‘out of all the teams to lose to. ‘ Leeds ‘ ! ! ! ! Boo/ Hiss Fed up with the wind……. No damage as I can see……. But haven’t ventured outside for a couple of days so who knows what’s happened out there……Staying close to the radiator and controls…. So another weekend closer to the big day…………. Evening Olav, I can’t read music and I choose not to follow tabs…… but ….. if I can hear the words of a song or the notes of an instrumental a couple of times then I would gamble heavily on the fact that I could play it all from start to finish, note for note……….. I think it’s called having an ear. I also chop things into sections in my head……. Like learn intro, learn verse one, verse two is exactly the same or verse two changes an octave, chorus is played twice with verse one played again in between then end section with probably a solo somewhere in between. ( I have been known to write all of this down, but not very often. ) I think most guitarists have some method similar to this. How do you play ? It’s taken over thirty years to summon up the desire to sit and play this song as it has personal feelings for me. This song was released on December 27th 1988 the day after my father died, ( Dec 26th - Boxing Day and my 40th Birthday ) the lyrics of the song are unbelievably true in oh so many ways…….. it was as if this song was written especially for me……. so much so ………. Hi Dave, this one has a special place in my music catalogue as it was released on 27th Dec 1988 the day after my father past away, it was Boxing Day ( My 40th Birthday ) I’ve never played it until now………… this was one I’ve purposely held back on. Thanks for your comments and kind words, I don’t know why the nut is positioned as it is on the Burns…….. just the style of the head and neck I think. No special reason as I see it. Yes, a big six minute’s of very special words ………. @@ianwilsonguitarist3079 Hi Ian , yes I read the other replies , about your father , and this song tells the whole storey ,withs its beautiful, but sad lyrics. I was only 34 when dad died he was only 64 in 1992, he taught me all about carpentry , he himself served his time as a wheelwright and had other jobs throughout his life . I went on to work in the building trade , as a bench joiner ,and wood machinist, I retired in January, I still have all his tools, plus my own . He also played piano accordion , and the organ, probably that's where it all started for me playing , so lots of memories. Thanks Ian ,take care Dave.

Hi Alan, thank you for your response to my arrangement of ‘ The Living Years ‘ which has very sad memories for me as it came out on 27 December 1988 and my dad died on my birthday which was 26th Dec 1988. It has taken this long to be able to sit down and play it. I’m pleased you enjoyed my arrangement which was very much to my liking…….. I’m glad you enjoyed it too. Well, we are heading fast into Christmas here at the Sanctuary with lights hanging from all the trees, sparkling lights around fences and ornate Christmas displays on show everywhere. It’s certainly feeling like Christmas at the Sanctuary…….. won’t be long now….. I had better get my thinking cap on and prepare some Christmas tunes I suppose……. It’s always a bit of a challenge finding ‘ NEW’ Christmas material…… the longer I can hold off with the first one …………. the easier it gets.
