Very good tutorial, especially the smoothing of normals, very instructive. In addition, the hit position of the raycast can be directly linked to the position of the transformed geometry

Latest blender has Active Camera Node Maybe this could operate with visibility or shapekeys? Or maybe I'm wishfully thinking lol? However, it's using geometry nodes. Have no clue how it would work, honestly. Not really a geonode type of guy but hopefully it has an answer?

This was really close, but it wasn't quite what I was looking for. I need something that will just simply deform a part of a mesh (body, ideally) around another object, without letting it pass through. This got awfully close, I just had to swap the negative values for positives, but it ended up just looking wrong. It was doing what it was intended to do clearly, but just wasn't what I was looking for. I'm left really befuddled. I'd think it's babby's first workflow to just deform a mesh around another mesh with collision, soft body, rigid body, surface deform, mesh deform, or et cetera, but those don't work at all for my use case.

What if you have created the cubes outside of Geo Nodes ? e.g. you simply duplicated a lot of the default cubes. There are many scenarios where would want to use falloff like that but it's nearly impossible to get the objects as needed w/ geo nodes e.g. OpenStreetMap buildings.
@vasilhs95

you could just interpolate your weights in code instead of pushing them to 100 every frame, and skip the whole mdd baking part, which would lower the size of your files and your ram consumption significantly. Otherwise great showcase.
@Brixxter
@Brixxter 4 ай бұрын
Is there any way to get this working with instantiated geonode objects? I have a sort of animated mesh cloud that I want to bring into unity. I baked the points into an .mdd, imported that back into blender, instantiated my objects on top of them but when I export that as a .fbx it shows up as a regular mesh in Unity, not a skinned mesh, so the animation is lost. Following the steps from the tutorial completely messes up the animation.
@RobbieTilton
@RobbieTilton 4 ай бұрын
you can do it with a prefab and then instantiate the prefab. the prefab must have the skinned mesh though. if you're fbx export isn't working check your 3d model programs export settings. likely missing a check-box somewhere.
@Brixxter
@Brixxter 4 ай бұрын
@@RobbieTilton I ended up figuring it out, I had to bake the MDD of the finished object and then apply the geonode modifier of the object before reimporting the MDD. Thanks for your video, it helped a ton!

if anyone is trying this in 4.0 or later the normal step is different. how I was able to achieve it was to add a Blur attribute node after the normal and bring it into the less than node set the z to 1 and control the falloff using the angle I found that an angle of around 60 seemed to work great.
