Blender Geometry Nodes - Butterflies

Create a butterfly? Why not 10,000 butterflies? Or maybe 1 million!!! This goes over how to use geometry nodes to create a butterfly and then instance a bunch and have them fly around a path.

hmm.. try a realize instances node at the end of your geo node graph

Hi Robbie, thanks for all the work that you post. I would much appreciate your opinion on switching from cinema 4d to blender. I am working in a place where I use cinema but it has alway attracted me that blender is free and open source. What are the advantages and may be difficulties you find. I am interested in the motion graphics aspect mostly. Thanks a lot and keep up the great work! 👏

if you're doing mostly mograph stuff with cloners and effectors you should stay with c4d. i'd say blender is superior in all other aspects except for that.

@@alexpatrax learning curve on blender is high. i'd say it takes a solid 3 months. it seems unintuitive, but once you get the hang of it - it does let you flow more than c4d

that's super weird. it should work identically in cycles and evee. Although I've never heard of this issue - maybe try to plug ur node graph into a 'realize instances' node right before the output

I have the same problem - I tried to unhide the butterfly collection and realize instances, but the issue persists. I am using Octane, not sure if it matters.

This was awesome! Was able to follow without any trouble. The only thing I struggle with is rendering the butterflies with other environment in cycles instead of eevve 🥲 because in cycles if I put glare, it blooms everywhere and I wanted it to bloom only in butterflies. Any suggestions? It would be great help. Thankyou

glad you enjoyed the video. for the cycles bloom you can try to change your glare threshold and emission numbers until you find the right balance
