The orcs are the antagonists. They have a culture, yes, but they are worshippers of Beliar, the evil god. This makes them evil by the typical fantasy alignment compass.

The tower looks like shit. how is 1 man meant to build something like that using just magic? its too grand, ripped straight out of hogwarts legacy. nothing "REalIStiC" or down to earth about it. All that neat interior design, pretty book shelves and marble tiles aligned perfectly? and why is it so big? it sticks out like a nail. absolutely ridiculous. sorry but im not buying it. now, sorry about the rant. just needed somewhere to vent as the devs are moving more so away from the OG vision and into this weird hogwarts legacy/diablo/farcry primal/horizon zero dawn mix. i get that theyre trying to make it their own thing but its meant to be a gothic. end of.

Blaming Björn Pankratz for the end of Piranha Bytes is a bit easy. After all, those were team decisions. And yes, Elex 2 is a terrible game.

According to some sources, the team always wanted to return but he got in their way for whatever reason. I guess it is hard to create a game that lives up to G1 and G2 but they had enough time.

@@vertigo7082 Yes, there were divergent opinions within the team, but that shouldn't have been shared in public. And, as I said, it was a team decision after all. And let's be honest: wound another instalment of Gothic have lived up to the expectation, with the outdated technology we know from Elex 1 and 2? When Genome was developed, it was a greal novel engine for Gothic 3. But using the same engine 20 years later tells you a lot about Piranha Bytes. In their early days, they were on par with Bethesda, with Gothic 1 and 2 prevailing over Morrowind and probably Oblivion as well. But another Gothic title with the technology of Elex and Elex 2 would never have been a match to Starfield or even Fallout 4. So, I highly doubt that the decision to make Elex 2 rather than another Gothic title led to the downfall of Piranha Bytes. On the contrary: a fairly produced Gothic which doesn't live up to the expectations, would have been an even bigger disappointment. And in this light, Björn Pankratz was only realistic proposing not to make another Gothic instalment. They didn't have then means to make it good.

Yes, Gothic1 back then was absolutly stunning (Night of the Raven was outdated) but G1 was relesed in the same year when, for example Diablo 2 was. Literally ixeleted game. Similar games but with smaller world back in 2001 was Max Payne or year later in 2002 Mafia 1. Gothic had biggest world and you could roam freely. Far more challenging. So yeah, interviewer was horribly wrong.

Completely disagree with bloodflies eyes with you. The moment you said "I don't want to see danger at night". In this gothic magical world glowing bloodflies eyes in my opinion would be good idea. Because this unreal engine 5 environment will be full of light sources at night. Remember the forest with stone circle in gothic 2 how glowing the forest is. I don't think those eyes will be glowing so hard that it will be unimmersive.

The glowing stuff near the stonehenge are ambient lights that emphasize the magical nature of this place. Glowing eyes just make enemies easily avoidable in the night. I guess everyone has their own opinions but this is not merely a visual effect because it has gameplay implications.

Gothic 1 is the blueprint, it's better than gothic 2 in atmosphere, world building and story. Gothic 2 is generic fantasy (dragons, really?) with no interesting twists in it. The story just chugs along doing it's job as if it was written by Carmack. The most telling thing about this is the fact that best moment of gothic 2 happens when returning to valley of mines. The only thing gothic 2 is better at is execution, which, being the second game is an expected thing. Without gothic 1 there's no gothic 2. You can tell they were running out of creative fuel in gothic 2 and basically running on vapours with NoTR (pirates in aztec structures is just ridiculous). However I will acknowledge my irrational dislike of Pankratz and his ideas so I am willing to concede on NOTR which seems to be agreed upon peak of the series for some reason. (I will debate anyone on this, NOTR is not good and anything Pankratz does is mediocre).

An example for a castle youre talking about at 26:00 is Predjama Castle in Slovenia (have been there, it and Slovenia are really worth visiting). This would actually be sick to even expand on that idea. Im curious if this will change with the Stone Dragon

30:00 I think they will make Orcs more human even tho they are just a tribe in G1 which was sent there to advance as an army and that's why they recured to traditional type living which makes complete sense, so just adding more to the voice of them and maybe hear them speaking also will part up with the next release of the game which will be G3 if they continue the remake of all 3

@vertigo7082 you should be 100 % confident, i feel you are 90%. Seeing the direction they go ,which is vastly different in many aspects make everyone wonder if are we not stuck just loving gothic as it is and can t see it otherwise. Yes, but when mentioning what made gothic great you are 100% right 85ish % sure you should still request that. There was a minute apecifically for that but I can t find it. Aniway thanks for the 2 h movie. Was one of the best !

Judging by designs and gameplay I think there is still a way to go but overall I am looking forward to the release. Sometimes I embrace changes, sometimes not so much. I know that I am not walking an entirely straight edge here, but man, I am but a human: flawed.

But yes about Gothic it should have some solid backbone gameplay like the original, no sliding, not different skinny characters it should be the stone in some aspects thats still the stone in the remake.

23:20 - Absolutely correct! It was a total machine melter, basically the "Can it run Crysis" meme, 6 years before Crysis. And while I was typing this - hot damn, Crysis came only SIX years later?! 1:17:45 - I think I've seen that one, too, and the guy who made that redesign didn't use AI, but rather painted over it. He's a character concept artist. :D
