Three things, mainly. 1: The buffer circuit in the guitar, 2: The choke added to the Twin's preamp, and 3: JBL speakers pushed very hard. The 25k log volume pot on the guitar may or may not make a difference, depending on how hard you work the volume.

The OBEL is part of it, and I installed one (with a Waldo buffer) in my Strat. It's great, but if you are going for the tone it's really the buffer. :)

Love your lessons man. I think the the reason there might be some confusion with the two parts is because Jerry recorded multiple guitar tracks on the album. Since Jerry is playing all his throaty lead lines of the chorus on the first 3 frets, there’s a way of incorporating both ideas for a single guitar arrangement. Try just coming up to the 5th fret C to F hammer on stopping short on the F then going straight back to the ascending lead starting on the 2nd fret. That way it sounds very close to the record version, and you can pull it off with one guitar player in the band. One thing I’ve notice everyone getting wrong is that first C chord of the chorus right on phrase Cats down under. It’s a C7 there. So it’s goes C7 F AM G etc. It really makes a difference against the vocals.

What is so special about John Mayers sound that so many people talk about it and want to chase it. Isnt it pretty standard just Strat through a cleanish Fender style amp and a few pedals?

The best thing about a guitar player as good as yourself is that you just make everything sound good. You were showing a scale in another video and even then you had music shooting out of your fingertips like electricity arcing to the nearest piece of metal

@@GabrielBergman95 PLEASE DO!! These lessons unlock soooo many doors. At first you're just repeating stuff without fully understanding the concept but at the same time it frees up your brain's processing power and lets you straight into playing/making music mode. Then when you are already cooking, its so much easier to reverse engineer the process, breaking stuff down into digestable pieaces... identifying inversions, root positions yadda yadda. Its also very empowering knowing how to find 7 chords that work together in a small fraction of your guitar neck

Garcia was playing to thousands in both indoor and outdoor concerts- he needed huge amps because he wanted Clean clean clean.. Nobody needs a 200w McIntosh in their fucking bedroom-- Those clowns with 200w amps are ridiculous - they are buying a look- ANY blackface/silverface style amp will do the exact same thing (maybe not the champ)
