Great lesson. Got another light bulb moment. Many people don’t realize the circle of fourths of CAGED and it’s laid out for ya on the fretboard. Move the root note over a string (a fourth) gives you the next CAGED shape in fourths order GCEADG instead of every other string which is the usual CAGED order. 5 frets is a fourth musical distance. 7 is a fifth. As you shift away from you one string and move up 7 frets to the same root note you play the next shape in fourths order maintaining the same scale. You also just moved a fifth up the fretboard so you can also see yourself at the V chord and keep the same shape you played in the beginning to match that chord. That I didn’t notice or realize until now. Thanks man! Keep em coming.

Hi Shane , Nice guitar btw , Excellent ex. And yes always use other keys + add backtrack’s when getting to know your fretboard. I like slow blues backtracking and then chill out and jam away (cell off ) with fretboard different ex’s when I’m not I mood to learn songs.

Thank you shame I think you have given me the key to playing and learning the fret board. So do I find what key the song is in or change with each chord? Thanks
@robcaveman2908
@robcaveman2908 3 ай бұрын
If you change with each chord, you are in the right key. If all the chords are in Key. And most songs use chords from one key. Not all do, but most do. But finding out what key the song is in to start with also helps. Learn the Major scale formula ( wwhwwwh ) If you don't already know it.
@UpliftingRiffs
@UpliftingRiffs 3 ай бұрын
Jim glad it helps. You can find the key of the song and then play along with it like I explained. Or if you change the scale with each chord then you are playing in that key of the chord for the moment the chord is passing by. To begin with I recommend to just find the key of the song and try to hit notes in the scale that sound good with the chord as it passes by. Hope that helps.
