@@NicksGarageUk pretty much what kinda welder you using and what gas are you using

My welder is relatively cheap and I use co2,, it will weld new steel perfectly but introduce halfords weld through primer and hydrate 80 and it doesn’t like it,, especially when joined to the old steel,, It is however fully penetrated and strong and I would rather that

@@NicksGarageUk get some hobby weld argon co2 mix you will notice a massive difference trust me you will be shocked in the difference and I always run my mig on full mines an old transformer type not a new modern one I've had it over twenty years but still welds spot on

I have used it but I do so much welding at the moment it costs a fortune and doesn’t make a considerable difference

I love them,, it will be great when finished with the new engine

Hopefully,, in an ideal world it needs a full strip back but bit by bit will get me there

Only problem with this it the tech side is now on it 😬 I appreciate I will be welding it for years to come but if I do each bit well it should last years

@@NicksGarageUk well all you can do is cutt it all out a fabricate and put in thicker metal make it stronger it worth it as you won't have to do anything for years I wouldn't want to sort all that wireing out I would rather do the welding myself then that 🤣😂 wiring just take your time on that mate

Wiring is pretty much done now,, all the difficult bits anyway 👍

At this stage it was just the engine swap,, problem is I have found a fair bit of rot so am addressing everything in the bay,, Future plans will be more in-depth inc a repaint,, I gave it a blow over a few years ago so still looks tidy on the outside

@@NicksGarageUk fair play to you. Some project your undertaking but will be good for years once the rot is sorted.

I have a set of landrover v8 mounts for it ready to go on,, they are slightly shorter,, engine is coming back out to finish fabrication 👍

Tried brazing it first,, unfortunately the bmw pipes are so thin and low quality they melted before the rods,, Once I got better at tig welding it wasn’t to bad and I could probably do it again in a couple of hours (plus making the fitting again)

I've got a mk5 tipper that's been fully rebuilt and solid as a rock in blue single wheel with German axle that i drive daily and love it but it still needs a few little bits to make her mint but to find one that don't need welding is a miracle. I've had loads over the years but I'm keeping tabs on your build to do my own in winter but yours is the most informative build I can find and makes for a good watch. You don't sound too far from me in Bradford either

@KGBCUSTOMAIRBRUSH I’m not so far,, just in Manchester by the trafford centre,, I’m going to fabricate my own panels this year,, a decent job but not perfect and will pull it off the road in a few years for a full rebuild

Yes,, it’s a very genuine car,, if it didn’t sell I was going to Saab turbo it but I have far to many projects already,, biggest intention with that car was to put it back on the road to live again

@@NicksGarageUk exactly what we are going to do with it pal. We have always had novas and corsas , just going to keep it original and tidy and use it . its got a couple of extras on now but still looks original to the untrained eye. Probs end up posting a video of its progression on my channel at some point .

I just really like the design of the mounts,, It’s taking a lot longer than originally anticipated but I’m going much more into it than I intended.. it will be fantastic when finished though

@@NicksGarageUk I'm just lazy/overworked - one of those - so I always look for the least effort solution. :-) I do stupid stuff to customers transits where someone ought to have said "No!" but didn't - so this is right in my wheelhouse. "Can this be done, J?"... Yeah.. probably...
