Been here since before it had a name it was all jumbled together with french filter house, electro funk and nu disco pre 2011 I have some rare gems from many artists before they blew up or had proper publishing rights. I used to hate when they would blow up and their old catalog would disappear! The mp3 era was amazing! soundcloud was the place to be!

When I was in elementary school, my classroom held a Halloween dress up party and one of the activities was to dance to the Thriller song But in order to do that, our teacher had to play the music video for us first so that we could learn the choreography Thankfully, my best friend was besides me and she knew I was quite squeamish, so she alerted me to turn away whenever the particularly scary moments of the song appeared, so I avoided getting traumatized for life thanks to her But even what little I saw from the music video was enough for me to get goosebumps anytime I ever saw something related to zombies for a long time

Was in rehab earlier this year. My boy Max introduced me to this band. Along with getting sober, discovery of Drab Majesty was a highlight of my time there.

I had so many weird things happen with this album. It would always play out of order on my iTunes and when I copied over to a CD. The song titles were always fucked up when it transferred to my iPod. Even weirder, when my friend got me it on vinyl, it came with two copies of the C and D side. Bummer, cuz I’m looking online now and the black and red version I have is worth $250-350

Drab Majesty have been around for quite some time now, slowly gaining traction and popularity. "Cold Souls" has been #1 on my Spotify play list since 2019, every single year. If you like the demonstration, listen to modern mirror, their next album, and then go back completely careless. This band is so incredibly good, right up there with Secret Machines (ten silver drops, Now here is nowhere) and Amusement parks on fire (out of the angeles).

Years later after posting, I realise the error I made about not referencing Dune as inspiration for the album. Apologies for the lack of including Dune as an influence to Dopesmoker. I appreciate the feedback from y'all, and despite that one error, I hope you guys enjoyed the video!

In the analysis of the concept I'm really surprised you didn't say Dune, weed/spice, weedians/fremen, Arrakis also has two moons, and Dune has a stronger religious theme than Star Wars

The fact that they are selling merch off of the event means Its 100% a publicity stunt. They would never want to tamper with anything related to it if it really caused that much harm.

This is one of the most medicinal and therapeutic and immersive albums I have ever come across. It’s so underrated and so few people know about it. It’s a truly beautiful piece from front to back

i dont really believe in spirits and stuff but im not against the idea of them existing, i started listening to this album a lot a while ago and ever since then, bad things keep happening in my life constantly, i think it's just coincidence, but it's a strange one

What makes this album great is: 1. It is aesthetically appealing 2. It doesn’t glamorize the cult it talks about (unlike other bands) 3. Warns about how cults work 4. It is respectful towards the victims

I credit Onra as the godfather of future funk with his 2010 album Long Distance, followed by 2012 EP Deep in the Night. He could have been influenced by the modern funk scene going on at the time but on those albums, he chopped up 80s funk and soul Dilla-style to create hip hop, vaporwave, future funk masterpieces.

Jerusalem was actually (semi officially) released by the band themselves in 1998 with the Arik Roper artwork in an edition of 1000 copies. The Rise Above 1999 release was exactly the same version (but with different artwork) & was fully sanctioned by the band.

I would have went more with a Dune style universe, but Tatooine was a ripoff of Arrakis. It reminds me more of the Fremen and the Stillsuits, Dune has more of a psychedelic and religious tone than star wars as well

As far as that cover goes (if I recall correctly) the artist said he was inspired by Dune, just replace the spice with weed. There's even an ornithopter off in the background.
