Alles ordnung 6:18 Another great Dirk Bogarde film is Victim. Charlotte Rampling & Dirk Bogarde starred together in The Damned, loosely based on the Krupps family.

Dirk Bogarde was such an awesome, charismatic actor. And a deeply human man. See if you can find Hunted, where he’s a man on the run with Johnny Whitely as a child who winds up with him. It’s a beautiful, beautiful film. Loved this, thank you so much.

Well done! I saw this 30 years ago on VHS tape and was stunned. Every time I see Charlotte Rampling to this day I think of either Night Porter or Zardoz. She's a gem. Dirk Bogarde nailed this role. Cheers.

Rampling is such a captivating screen presence. My favorite role of hers is as the lead in Woody Allen’s Stardust Memories. Last year, I attended a concert in Paris and coincidentally ran into her in the foyer while we were leaving the theater. She graciously accepted my star struck admiration and praise

Bravo for showcasing a lesser-known classic. Charlotte Rampling is a powerhouse actor and I suggest you check out “45 Years” which came out a few years ago. A great and deep marital mystery

Liliana Cavani was a journalist during and after WW2. She interviewed two female Holocaust survivors who were the basis for this story. The male character was easy to write as she knew about the Nazis first hand.

This is why I subbed to this channel so many, many years ago (and why I suggested 'Heartless' way back when) - to see you two review movies I've never seen (let alone heard of). This channel has opened my eyes to so many films that are not talked about enough.

Bogarde is such an interesting, enigmatic actor. I recommend 'Victim' (Dirk at his finest, imo). One of the first British films to depict a homosexual character seriously. Ground-breaking - and it led to changes in the law in the UK. 'Death In Venice' is another significant film in Bogarde's career, but for me it's too long and self-indulgent (subject matter is very controversial, too).

The 70s, what a fantastic time for films. The Night Porter, Swept Away, Le Magnifique, Seven Beauties, The Wicker Man, Tess, Saint Jack, Go Tell the Spartans on and on the list goes. It really was great to these films on the big screen. Thanks for a wonderful channel.

I first had contact with this movie when I watched the "The Night Manager" mini series and I told work colleagues about it and basically all that were a little bit older than me assumed that I watched the "The Night Porter" instead. It was both awkward and kind of funny and the mistake or misunderstanding did not reveal itself that very day but only afterwards when I got home. So I got curious and and so I watched "The Night Porter" and a lot of the questions I got about "The Night Manager" finally made sense... Just to clarify, I don't recommend "The Night Manager" at all, but I recommend “The Night Porter”, a thoroughly superior product.

Wow! You don't see many female directors doing films like these! I have to hand it to her! I'll have to see this one! Great review guys!

Nice to see you guys "diversifying", so to speak. Movies like this one, or the stuntman one, or Being There. I appreciate and will continue to appreciate your reviews of older sci-fi and horror (this is how i found you after all, and they are so comfy!) but expanding yours and our horizons time to time is great. Edited to add - you also tackled it greatly. You could also explore "La caduta degli dei" by Visconti.

I have never heard about this film before but your review raised my interest and I decided to watch it. I really loved it, I haven't seen a film for years which captivated me this much. Great directing, cinematography and brilliant acting by Bogarde and Rampling. I loved that there were minimal dialogues between the two main characters but everything was clearly said by their facial expressions and body language. Indeed this is a controversial and disturbing story but so complex, interesting and thought provoking. And for me it was romantic too although in a very dark way. Shame on me but I did not know about these two brilliant actors before but now I will cerainly watch more of their films . Thank you for making this review . You introduced me to a great film and amazing actors and I am really glad for that :-)

It's been shown on BBC Two four times (1995, 1997, 2000 & 2001) but seems to have been shelved since then which is a shame. Interestingly another one of Liliana Cavani's films 'The Cannibals' was also broadcast on BBC Two. Now we get Celebrity Masterchef..

Dear god....is this what passes for comment. This movies all about alienation and compatability in alienation even if it's from two diametrically opposite milue. Its a staggering compulsive movie which is even part of the curriculum in psychology and social psychology degrees. Please put some proper research into it then with the key of understanding you might just close the door on the superficial world to enter the full one.Incidently I have a signed by Charlotte Rampling DVD of this.
