Omg I LOVE your painting there! Know where I can source a print? To me, a lightweight street legal enduro with a basic signal kit is what I'd love the most. I can't ride long distance road either cause of neck issues. If you've got lower back issues try Roman chair low back extensions and pelvic thrusts... unless they cause you pain. They can work wonders!

The manual is wrong. If it was right there would be all sorts of people reporting broken frames from normal riding and hitting logs and stuff. I have the enduro engineering bash plate, which has an mount on the back as well that adds additional stability.

You need to be able to pick your bike up (at least where I live) and lift it over a large log by yourself. Also if your bike slides off of a ledge you need to be able to get it out by yourself. Meaning unless you are very large and powerful your bike should be under 250lbs

I have a Dsport on the rear, and a 2 Track on front of my WR250R. I'm guessing I have <1500 miles on them and they are wearing well so far. I did see some abrasion caused by very sharp rocks alongside a stretch of Rail line. Mostly, City driving and high speed gravel roads. I rode late into the fall last year, and made sure I warmed them up well before going fast through my favorite twisty's. Cheers.

Of the two big bore bikes, the Honda XR650 and the Suzuki DR650, when it comes to a 50/50 adventure build to really get lost in the woods on which would choose? Many will praise one or the other as the best "adv/navigator/motocamping build" but since youve had both. I was curious of your opinion.

would be a lot easier if americans just called bikes what they are. motocross bike = competition bikes for racing motocross or supercross not well suited for anything else besides that. no lights, high maintenance. enduro bike = competition bike heavily biased towards offroad capability and racing enduro and other offroad events, usually has lights and is street legal to allow it to transverse roads between trails though not particularly well suited for extended road riding. road/trail (dual/sport) bike = a bike similar to an enduro bike that compromises aspects of a competition bike to increase longevity, reduce maintenance and better handle more road riding though still being more biased towards offroad riding. adv bike = a far more road oriented bike that keeps some abilities to go offroad but is more suited to longer distances on well maintained roads. lumping motocross and enduro bikes together or lumping competition enduro bikes with road/trail bikes because they're both street legal doesn't really work. i ride my bike an hour each way to work i've done 7k km adv rides and 850km days i'd still never put a windscreen or gps screen on my bike....why? because i still ride single trail, i still jump it and windscreens are just a huge wank.

It's nice to see a motorcycle video that talks more about engineering+mechanics than the standard ride review. It's a shame that we don't have intelligent videos with engineers at manufacturers that discuss the various principles of motorcycle design and component testing and the various stress standards and alloys they develop for components to ensure longevity+reliability+maintainability. There's a lot of work done to find the proper balance between weight and strength. It would be an interesting dive into motorcycle engineering. You want enough strength to handle loads for decades, but you also want to find the minimal weight to accomplish that. It would be fascinating to see+learn how they figure all this stuff out. How they design the center of gravity, how they may account for jumping, the stresses on steering heads, swingarm pivots, fork tubes, frame geometry, etc. Special manufacturing that is done to ensure certain qualities of, for example, cylinders, crank arms/bearings, piston rings, valves+seats, camshaft surfaces, etc.

Did you say that they did not change the gear ratio! What a bunch of crazy people at Suzuki. They must live on mars.

Whoever made that comment, must not know about dirt bikes either. I raced motocross for many years. And changing the handlebars is one of the first things you do, to get your bike more comfortable.

Good info! I've seen and experienced some of these differences with those of us that have the CRF450RL which does kind of blur the lines. I've seen a lot of people interested in replacing the stock cam for something from the crf450rx to gain back the hp that you would see with the motocross bikes, even asking me if I'd do that to mine, but I wouldn't because it's taking away from the dual sport aspect of things. I'm already sacrificing service intervals to some extent, and I want to keep the "longevity" of a more multi-purpose bike.

To me the Honda is useless. It is simply too tall for me to even get on and once there, I cannot touch my feet to the ground. I only have a 30" inseam and because of that, there are many modern bikes that I cannot ride. KTM does not make ANY bike that I can ride including their street bikes because of height. I have owned 2 DR 650s in the past and lowered both slightly, but they were great bikes for on / off roading.

We get it. ADV bikes have trash suspension and no bottom end. Oh, and they weigh 100lbs more.

I don't think that there's really one right way to set up a motorcycle's ergonomics, what other people think works, may not work for others, Everybody's different! Keep up the great content!

I'm a little confused on your explanation here that the bar risers are for on-the-road comfort and made no mention of benefit to the standing position comfort, and seem to imply that its only a negative to the off-road experience. In your previous video with bar risers you mention "oh that may be too high" when sitting but then you stand and say how good it is and how raising the bars lets you stand more vertically for comfort, though its not the best attack position. Would you say that you raise your bars for seated comfort, standing comfort or both? Most of the time when I find people raising their bars or talking about doing so its for standing comfort.

I got a gen 1 KLR, and i work on making it as dirt capable as possible. Naked, stripped down to WELL under 400lbs, bored 1 over, high compression, and full on dirt tires. Most of the 'roads' around here are such potholed, rutted, cracked, loose chip sealed safety hazards that it's a dirt equivalent. And when i DO leave the area it's all on dirt or just open desert. My commute is 50/50 but my adventures are usually more 90/10. It's a 10 mile ride through town then about a 200+ mile dirt loop. Roads are the dystopian hell you briefly tolerate while crossing to get to the dirt heaven on the other side.

100 per cent, Ben. The key is to figure out what one plans to do realistically. Often, the end result over time is to wind up with several different bikes when the budget allows. Took me many years. I now have a gen 1 klr650, Husky 501 made street legal, Beta 300 2T dirt bike, & a Beta 250 trials bike. They cover all the bases for me. All have their sweet spot. Great videos!
