Agree with the stock air box being best,.. tested various cais and they all messed the maf reading and didnt gain anthing other than sound....

I understand the 4.4 m62 maf can be utilised when you are running bigger air intakes etc, but not tested that myself.

Hey! Good vid! Do you think it’d gain any power by using m50 inlet on m52b20? I’ve heard they’re breathing well with the stock inlet, and I wonder if it would do any improvement by swapping to m50 inlet?

Hello! I have not tried it. But maybe some small gain? Maybe the m50b20 would be better suited for that engine as the b25 will flow too much for the smaller 2.0l? If you bring in some supporting mods, decat, and some cam work I'm sure it'll be happy

Hi Steve greetings from Sydney Australia...I pressed the subscribe soon as I watched this B10 video as I love my BMs too. Ive got a 2003 530i Msport with the factory Hi Tech kit fitted . I got it cheap as it had been badly vandalised and keyed on nearly every panel so needs a complete respray. Its a real shame as the interior is immaculate. Sapphire Metallic Black with black leather interior. I'm originally from Manchester so grew up in my teens always trying to afford either a 320i or a fast Ford that was in the late 80's early 90's. Anyway hopefully if you read this you might be able to help me coz I need to get a diagnostic OBD reader for the 530 ...Can you recommend the best one for older BMW's like mine. I'm sure the channel will take off especially if you do a resto on that B10 eh ?

Hey Vini, thanks for the sub and comment. I've owned around 60 bmw in the last 10 years or so, e34, e36, E38, e39, x5, E46. Can't beat them 🙏 530i is a lovely bit of kit. If you dig through some of my older vids you'll see I've got stuff on my 540i e39, 728i E38 and a loaf of other cars. For diagnostics, the best software is BMW INPA but you'll need. A laptop and need to download a cracked version to use it so a bit tricky. My suggestion for ease and cost would be to use a bmw c110 scanner. It plugs straight into the obd port and does a heap of diagnostics and live data and is a good tool. They're 40£ or so on ebay

Great video steve im really interested in this build this cars got alot going for it and so many ideas what you can do im more a supercharger guy than turbo reckon add love to hear a whine singing along with the straight 6 howl but nothing wrong with keeping the n/a route and it really does need alpina wheels to finish it off 😀

Yes you starting to see light at the end of the tunnel 👍 part from changing disc n pads all round and handbrake not done alot but did shampoo the 30 year old velour seats n mats which came up nice 😅 next job might b replacing the sunroof headliner bit but apparently involves removing the sunroof cartridge to do 😬 my m3 did go on display in a museum for a week which was nice 😊

Great stuff. I need to do the pockets myself but i never welded in my life. I want to buy a welder to do the job but also get into welding. What welder do you use? What do you recommend? Thanks.

For such a critical component like this, I would suggest finding someone who has welding experience. It's an important part of the rear subframe mounting so not worth taking risks 🙂 I use an RTECH Mig 180. Great bit of kit 😊

@@HardlyExotic Not a risk where im from. Better doing it myself. Pseudo specialists making awfull job taking big stacks. I went abroad to work and left the car to have a complete rust repair. And those "experienced welders" left pockets untouched among many other things they left rusted under the car. Getting angry even writing this story. I asked my dad to pick up the car cuz I stayed abroad for a longer time. I had no idea they made such a sloppy work sending me photos of the few things they did okay. But yeah i'll never trusting anyone with repairs ever again. But thanks for the concern.

@@HardlyExotic I'm from Poland. Slowly working on my bimmer in my free time. With this car I found out theres nothing i can't do :D. Even if it means I have to learn how to weld. But I had that in my plans before so. Now is the time.

No, it's just the repair becomes much more complex as you will need to tie into the box section above which is fine but harder to access, you will need to trim higher into the bodywork to access this metalwork and then rewuite further repairs and paintwork etc.

About the sluggish part, what do you expect from a 2.5? A car that heavy needs at least 250 bhp for a satisfactory dinamic experience. 2.5 is a good engine for a 3 series.

No problem! I don't think you will max the stock injectors out unless you add cams and ecu tuning

On the hood struts closer too the hood side not the body side there is a 10mm bolt that you can take out to get the hood in a service position for more light etc.

Keep the rpm limit to 7000 and you will minimise the risk.
