I have a taco v6 4.0 that has an external HG leak , no coolant in oil or vise Versa. Shops keep telling me to drop a used motor in it and no one wants the job to do the HG. under 100k miles , not sure what to do 🙃

Those pin tool set is not a carb cleaning tool . They are for cleaning welding torch tips AND the serrations are to file out the torch tip holes . You can damage the jet orifice size , as well as the emulsion tube ( tube with little holes) . If anything, use a smooth piece of wire can be used to go through the holes to dislodge crust debris .
@themotofirm
@themotofirm 23 күн бұрын
They are a carb cleaning tool as well, with these sold by K&L, a carb part manufacturer. As I said, be careful and don’t damage the brass. You can damage anything if you’re not careful, even with the proper tools.

My coolant and oil are not mixing but coolant is burning out of the exhaust. Very slow leak, im thinking it may be a manifold water jacket. Any thoughts?
@themotofirm
@themotofirm 25 күн бұрын
Good way to rule out the headgasket would be to pressurize the coolant system then wait 20 mins and borescope the cylinders. Mine passed the exhaust gas tester and didn’t smell til right when I figured it out, but 5 of 6 cylinders had tiny leaks. The exhaust gas pressure also boiled the overflow reservoir (but that could’ve been the radiator cap).

Hi. Bro, can you help me? I've a tacoma 2006 4.0 and i dont find the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor. Can you tell me where is located?
@themotofirm
@themotofirm Ай бұрын
As far as I know, the 4.0 doesn’t have a MAP sensor. If you have a check engine light, the code can be for a Barometric Pressure Sensor (BPS) which is incorporated into the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor at the top/front of the engine. So maybe try cleaning that first with contact cleaner and microfiber (get the edges of the plate). If you clean or replace, make sure to disconnect the battery for at least ten minutes, then reconnect and drive. It may die on the first start attempt, but give the computer some time to readjust to the new airflow amounts.

Thanks for the information. The truth is that no one told me that I didn't have a sensor map. I'm so thankful bro

Mine also seems to stick shifting to 2nd and 1st gear like the plates are sticking. If I blip the throttle a little and then shift, it shifts down. It also will move forward with clutch level pulled in. If i loosen the clutch cable alot and then set it to the proper slack it works like new for a ride and then goes back to sticking again....is this what yours was doing?
@themotofirm
@themotofirm Ай бұрын
Mine would not downshift properly but did not move forward with the clutch in. It sounds like your clutch cable may be giving up/stretching. I would replace that and see if the problem persists.

Can confirm anyone having this problem might just need to clean it out more. I cleaned mine twice with just spraying carb cleaner through everything. It wasn't till the third time that I put it in the ultrasonic cleaner with some simple green that it fully opened everything up. Bike runs great now. I almost started messing with jetting and what not but glad I came across this video and gave it one last go. Thanks for the info!

This is a very helpful tip, which many other videos overlook. Although this information is also noted in the service manual at EM43, the manual doesn’t specifically mention rotating the crank counterclockwise by 40 degrees. In my view, if Cylinder 1 is at TDC on the compression stroke with the valves closed, there’s no risk of valve-to-piston contact. Therefore, it should be safe to rotate Camshaft #2 to the 90-degree position. Am I overlooking something?
@themotofirm
@themotofirm 2 ай бұрын
The Toyota FSM I used specifically outlines this procedure. If you rotate back 40 degrees, no piston is at TDC. I’m thinking this just makes it safer when rotating the cams to/from timed position especially if you accidentally go past due to the springs pushing on it.

This carb was already pretty clean. But Napa has a spray, think it’s called aluminum brightener, helps clear up oxidation. Used it one engine cases, should work on the carb body.

So there is a golden little piece there next to the main jet. Where does that go?
@themotofirm
@themotofirm 9 ай бұрын
Took a while to figure out what you meant, I assume at 3:32? That is the needle jet, basically a guide for the needle, and makes the hole visible from the inside when you’re lowering the needle down into place. It presses lightly into the carb body from the bowl side, before the main jet and jet holder go in. Countersunk (tapered bore) goes toward the needle. I don’t typically mess with them since they don’t do much and don’t really go bad, but maybe I replaced this one since the kit had it, not sure.
