My mom passed away due to septic shock last December. She was prepared for an ortopede surgery and she was given a catheter, then next day, she got urioinfection. Then it could not be stopped. She was immediatelly given the strongest and the widest spectrum antibiotics also infusion to maintain the blood pressure. Did not help. The last three days, she was almost in coma, and did not have any pain. Can not get over it. She survived breast cancer then this took her away. So painful.

I had sepsis one month ago, barely survived, spent 3 days in the hospital, luckily antibotics and fluids brought me back, they sent me home with pills the size of horse tranquilizers, doing good now

Watching this on new year’s day 2025 - brings back some memories I wish I never had. I’m a former professional baseball player. I’ve been fit my entire life - rarely getting the cold or flu. In November, 2023, I went to bed feeling sluggish & sore joints. I assumed I pushed it during a workout earlier that day - so I went to bed early to try and sleep it off. The next morning, I woke up feeling like a truck hit me - joints were extremely painful, my headache was the worst I’ve ever had. My feet & hands were freezing cold , although I was sweating laying in bed. This was November in Canada - sweating was definitely not normal! I decided to stay home & my wife went to work & kids to school. Luckily, my mother called about something else & when I told her what was happening - she knew it was probably 5x worse than what I was telling her so she called an ambulance to get me. The paramedics were there within 15 minutes & I was at the emergency in the hospital 10 minutes later. At this point, I was very lightheaded & had a hard time focusing & understanding questions. I just remember thinking “ I have 3 doctors & 4 nurses around me sticking needles in both arms - I must be in trouble “ . I don’t remember much about that day - other than realizing at some point I was in ICU unit. I was having a hard time breathing & they actually had to put a breathing tube in the next day. I kept asking what was going on & no staff would say the word Sepsis to me. At some point in day 2, the Dr called in my wife & parents & told them what no parents want to hear- “ your son is very sick. We are doing everything possible for him. Am I telling you he is going to die? No. I will tell you if he wants to live he’s going to fight with every bit of strength he has. I began to show improvement on day 4 in ICU - so they switched me from the potent doses of antibiotics to a milder antibiotic. Within hours, I began coughing non stop & having trouble with breathing. This was about 2am & I turned so fast from improving to almost back at square one. I asked the nurse to pass me the phone & give me a minute of privacy. I made 2 phone calls- to my mom & my wife. I told them I felt like I wasn’t going to make it through the night. It’s hard to explain, but I just felt deep inside I couldn’t fight back anymore. After hanging up, I cried like a baby for 10 minutes, then I felt this peace come over me & that fear of dying just went away. I still thought I was going to die, but I was OK with it. I’m 53, I lived a childhood dream of playing professional baseball & raised 2 great sons - both were in college on baseball scholarships. My job was done…and if I had to go…I had to go. At some point I fell back asleep & when I woke up, I could not believe how much better I felt - the nurses had put back on the powerful antibiotics while I was sleeping & my body responded well. On day 6 , my breathing had improved, I was actually able to get up & walk to the bathroom & wash myself. You cannot believe how good that scrub made me feel. Of course, when I got back to the bad, I was exhausted…but I had accomplished something -that’s all that mattered ! Days 7 & 8, I was steadily improving…able to get up several times to walk around throughout the day & I began working with specialists doing breathing exercises etc. this one nurse in particular was about 4’10 100 lbs. I’m 6’4 275, she pushed me through those exercises every day. She said “ do you think I’m scared to yell at you? He’ll no buddy - so don’t make me. lol . I loved her! By day 11, the doctors & nurses all came in and put me through a series of tests . I passed all no problem. I was hoping that meant they would move me down to a regular room - out of ICU - so I was shocked when they stood me to pack up - I’m going home. I couldn’t believe it. The tiny nurse said “ I know you’ll be sad without me, but when I saw you 11 days ago, you’re lucky to be going home. So get ! “ Haha

On March 17,2024 I myself had went into Sepsis Shock. I had a 17% chance of living after being admitted into the hospital. I spent almost three weeks but if the team of doctors would have not tried me on 4 different antibiotics I would have died, which ironically was what my husband of thirty years passed away from on November20,2013 and coincidently I was in the same E.R room he was in. My three children had knew I wasn't going to make it and when I did pull through I strongly believed it was because of my Angel my husband was with me and I also had so many people coming to pray for me over my bedside, however I did come back unable to speak move,my hands, and legs. Also, my skin had appeared that it had burned from the inside out. I had deep holes all over my body. As of today, December 28, 2024 I still cannot breath real good and I cannot stand for more than 5 minutes at a time. My holes are closed up but they still hurt, especially on both my knees. I do know I am not getting a good blood flow through my legs but I am just curious how much longer I have to be in this condition before I begin to feel better. Is there hope on the other side? I used to be so healthy until I had gotten the covid shot in 2020 and now I barely have any energy to get up out of bed. I am 60 years old and my body actually feels like its 80. I have recently reviewed this video and found the website for the septic shock survivors so I am hoping to get some advice on how I can overcome this dreadful feeling I have everyday and unfortunately it is keeping me locked up like I'm in prison, never now being able to get out of my home since I'm still so sick. I pray to my Lord and Savior everyday to have the strength and I also pray for the other survivors who has experienced this awful sickness. May you have Peace and comfort for whatever is ailing you.

My mommy just passed away after fighting sepsis and other bacterial infections picked up in hospital. She picked up Staphylococcus - MRSA and Corynebacterium in the woundcare dept at the hospital. She then got a perforated bowel after not being able to use the toilet for a very long time even after begging to. She did not want to go in the nappy. She then got vented after a very long colostomy operation and then the Dr decided to sedate her for fighting the vent. She thus went from Simv vent at 35 to 90, the sedation weakened my mother extremely. She was fighting a great fight but in the end they left ascites untreated and she passed from resp failure due to effusion. They really could have done more, but did not. They rather tried weaning her from meds that she actually needed. After a month and a few days they gave up,but my mother still tried to take a breath till the end. They lay her flat and had her tied,so she was drowned by people who were supposed to know better. I regret alot of things during this time, but I will not leave it there as someone else will be subjected to this and it needs to stop. After just under a million rand in medical fees and the loss of my mother and best friend, I feel like I am loosing my mind. I am so angry!

My dad went to the ER on 11/5/24 with Severe Sepsis. I had no idea what it was and how difficult this would be for him and the family. He’s had a 10 hour heart surgery, another operation to flush out the infection of the plural cavity, 2 hand surgeries, and is on dialysis. He was intubated 3x’s (currently intubated) and we are praying he can make it out of this nightmare.

My husband got sepsis this past summer due to a urinary tract infection, which they think now was caused by an enlarged prostate. I am so thank ful that I recognized the signs and got him to a hospital quickly. He had no long term issues and healed up after spending 3 days in the hospital and two weeks resting at home. Sepsis is serious, known the signs.

Sepsis is a nasty thing to have. Spent time in ICU and it almost killed me. A year later, I'm still having some complications. I cannot believe half of the population has not heard of this condition. Perhaps my knowledge of it came from dealing with livestock?? I don't know, but more people need to be aware of the condition

I have Crohn’s disease and had kidney stone surgery in May of this year. Almost lost my kidney and had to have a stent for 6 weeks. My body fights healthy tissue and didn’t like having a stent in it. I went into the ER in June for severe pain and they found out my stent was infected and I had sepsis. I was immediately put on IV antibiotics and thankfully caught it in time. I still have to be careful for a year with any illness etc. I’m on Stelara injections every 6 weeks which also puts me at risk for infection so I have to be so careful. I’m so happy I listened to my body and went in. Everyone at the hospital told me how sick I was and I didn’t want to believe it. I’m so happy I am ok now and on the mend.

According to my ICU nurses, paramedics likely saved me. By the time i got to the ER they were alerted. What i thought was a gi flare was a massive infection in my colon. They took the time to get 3 iv's in me and meds. I did end up ventilated with kidney failure. Im only 2 weeks home now and still fearful😢

I sometimes fainted even after the iron infusion for 3 hours, but I felt okay, but then I fainted again after walking and then laid down on the floor while fainting, so the doctors and nurses helped me to get up and sit on the wheelchair and do the iron infusion for 30 minutes. Even though I fainted after the iron infusion, I still had a great and wonderful time with my mom and the doctors and nurses!!

I understand. I survived Severe Sepsis that piggybacked on Acute Covid Delta and was in hospital 5 weeks. It was vicious, replete with several serious hallucinatory episodes, being on 55-66 liters of oxygen, massive amounts of steroids and heart medicine because the steroids drove me into heart failure and also was on large insulin doses due to this. I lost 50 pounds in one week completely bedridden and had piclines in each arm. I was released when I could take 6 steps with a walker and on 8 units of oxygen with a machine.......I'm a tough old bastard and in a few days I was off the walker... That was 3 years ago and I think I've completely recovered for the most part. I have some joint pains in my hands, digestive issues that are fading and a heart attack about a year ago with no apparent cause but I'm 71 and it could be due to aging..........I'm certainly extremely lucky and probably an unusual case. I truly, truly wish you all the best life has to offer
