Great stuff, I can’t wait to see how you tackle Moonrise Towers and the Oubliette! The oubliette and the subsequent mind flayer colony after Ketheric pt.1 are some of my favorite parts of the game. The whole level - design, art, atmosphere, etc… is fleshed out to a degree that I haven’t seen anywhere else. Such detail for mind flayers and their colonies makes them that much more creepy, and that much cooler as enemies! I also love that they give you that whole level to go all out and really play with all the tools they’ve given you. Good luck! …also I hope you dont die on the moving platform. I HATE that bug!
@MelthКүн бұрын
@@VERY_TALL_MAN moving platforms are almost as dangerous as Gerringothe! I definitely enjoy the moonrise towers battles quite a lot. I just uploaded the mindflayer colony video a week or so ago. It's definitely great part of act 2! Though for me, there were a couple of teasing hints of how it COULD have been even better. The resonance stone you find for example is a lore thing from the 3.x era when mindflayer society and culture was much more fleshed out and interesting. I'd have loved to be sneaking into a mindflayer colony from that era even more! Likewise the one secret githzerai you can talk to is cool, but reminds me how I've been saying it would have been great to have Githzerai in other parts of the game.

Just picked up BG3 the other day when it was on sale since I heard a lot of people love it and it reminds me of Dragon Age Origins which is one of my favorite games. I struggled to get through most encounters on balanced difficulty with my first playthrough. Looked up some tips and just kept trying to find better ways to approach combat and my (current) 2nd playthrough on tactician feels easier than that previous balanced playthrough. Hoping these videos get me through a 3rd (or maybe 3rd, 4th, etc) playthrough on honor difficulty without too much death lol. The discussion of the game in general/lore/dnd is also a huge bonus for me since I have never played a Baldur's Gate game before and only have very limited knowledge about dnd in general so very much appreciated.

Can't wait for Moonrise Towers battles and Myrkul fight especially. I wonder if he's even possible to defeat without taking damage with his legendary action retaliation
@Melth2 күн бұрын
I can only think of 2 ways to avoid damage from Myrkul's legendary action (blinding him doesn't work for some reason, even though it does work on most other legendary actions): 1) Trigger it by having the summoned Shadow from the shadow lantern attack him first. That shadow is your one and only available ally that is 100% immune to necrotic damage 2) Be in a globe of invulnerability at the time Unfortunately I can't do either of those things. I just recorded the video of beating Myrkul a couple of days ago, and the only damage I took was one poke from that legendary action. Per my challenge rules, I'm not allowed to use scrolls of invulnerability yet. And I didn't have the shadow available because I unsummoned it for being useless many videos ago.

I think the key to understanding Thisobald's origins is Balthazar who is Ketheric's key ally since he turned to Myrkul. We know from Balthazar's "brother" that he is a skilled necromancer than can graft undead flesh into a monstrosity, and that Ketheric raided his own family tomb in honor of Myrkul, so it stands to reason that Ketheric had Balthazar raise or construct his "child" Thisobald. Perhaps he was one of Balthazar's earlier experiments to improve on his brother? It's a lot of speculation but you also have to read between the lines because there's a lot of lore scattered about in the environment and notes/books and such. Otherwise I agree it would make no sense since Ketheric never mentions his "son" only Isobel.
@Melth4 күн бұрын
That's a good thought. No evidence supports it, but Balthazar certainly could have reconstructed Thisobald into this weird hippo thing. Ultimately, I just don't think the writers thought it through because no explanation is offered. I think they thought they had a cool idea for a scene (correct!) involving a fat monster bartender and they just went with it without making the design make sense

Hi Melth! Idk if you knew this or not, but it’s very helpful for me in big battles. If you press the tilda (~) key at the top left of your keyboard you can get enemy/ally outlines to show up. They show through walls and also highlight enemies that tend to blend in with the background. Super useful when you have a big map like this with spread out enemies! Anyway, great job with thisobald. I know this is off-topic but I recommend Shahnameh (physical/ebook/audiobook) to anybody that likes D&D, Greek mythology or heroic fantasy. Even though I am only part-way through, it is great so far. Imagine the Middle Eastern setting of Arabian/1001 Nights but it is more combat-oriented and more of a chronological series (with some massive time skips) than an anthology. Arabian/1001 Nights is more like Grimm Fairy Tales in the Middle East.
