I have been 'on' Ebay for 20+ years, as a buyer and seller, at varying levels of activity. I'm nearing retirement age and have been ramping up my selling. I already had a regular printer. So for the first few months, I printed my labels out on regular printer paper, and - like Melody did - I taped the shipping labels onto each pkg. Since I quickly learned how time- consuming that is, I then bought adhesive labels online, 2 per sheet. Game changer!

"feeling emotions" for a storage unit is very true. I buy and sell storage units regularly for the past 2 years and early on I had to disassociate with it and just think of dollar signs. To this day I have rocks a little girl painted from my 1st ever auction unit. Her childhood/family situation was clear as day in the paperwork and photos I found. Keeps her memory alive and to be a reminder of where I started. Plus they are neat ladybug painted rocks.

Thanks so much! I have to comment on your name! So, I've had 3 Ford Falcons. Two 68's and a 69. I was driving the 1969 Falcon when Melody and I met in 85. The last one I had was a 1968 with the 289 automatic. It had 4800 original miles on it when I bought it. I loved that one and wish I still had it. I will definitely get another one when the right one comes along. There's a 67 near me, but it's the 4 door. I really want the 2-door. As you probably know, the Falcon was discontinued here in the States in 71 (I think that's right). I'm a BIG fan of the late 60's Falcons. BIG FAN.
@fordfalcon8510 ай бұрын
@@TheChaChingKing Oh wow that's so cool. They seem to be considerably rarer in the States due to their limited run. Our Australian version of the Falcon was very similar to the US up until the 70s when we started designing our own, and as such the Falcon name continued here until 2016. I own a 1974 Falcon and my first car was a 1985 Falcon 🙂 Google the Australian Ford Falcon if you have time. You might find it interesting. The 289 was a great little V8. Our later Falcons had the 250 6cyl, 302 & 351 V8 options.

Howdy from Texas, Neil! "Crossposting" is the act of listing your item on multiple platforms. So, here in the states, we have several options. We can list our item and then turn around and list it on Facebook Marketplace, Etsy, Poshmark, Mercari...lots of options. Does that answer your question?

I just started a new eBay store. I part time sold on eBay on a personal level maybe one sold 2 coins a month. I also had an Amazon store that sold 400 to 500 things a month. My new store is Shopping with Old Guy. I am completely set up accept my Rolo needs adjusting. But I have two camera stations one large white board and one box for smaller items. So having said all that I started a new eBay store last month and I am just not selling at all I did buy some things so I could get some positive feedback but man I am struggling. My listings are slow. Took me all day to do 14 listings total grind. I am selling clothes now and coins and electronics. But the clothes are slow. I have a hard time with posting sizes other than the Large, medium. Folks what to know the length of a T-shirt and the chest size I am thinking to myself it’s a large, don’t you know what size you wear?
@TheChaChingKing2 ай бұрын
I completely understand. I do not list fast at all. And, I don't care to. I've always aimed at raising my average sale price instead of listing speed. There are MUCH better people on KZbin that can show you how to list quickly. I'm slow. :-)
@shannongreenlaw8810 ай бұрын
Can you do a video on how to fix shipping issues? I’m brand new to it, and last week I sold a nonreverse mirror, I packed up my item and scheduled usps pickup. A day after pickup it was returned, pointing out an error= that the label said media instead of ground advantage. The order said buyer selected media mail. I honestly don’t know if I accidentally had it originally set to that or if they selected that to try to save on shipping. However, I didn’t know how to fix it so I messaged the buyer letting him know and canceled the order and refunded him. I had to put item out of stock or broken for the cancel reason because I panicked and didn’t know what else to do. If it happens again, how would I fix that? (adjusting shipping therefore needing the buyer to pay for the price difference)
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
Oh gosh, I hate that for you. You must have had media mail as an option. And, any mistakes like that, you need to fix before you purchase the label if you can catch it. It's awfully tough on a buyer if you go back to them after they've paid and tell them it'll cost more. You'd be better off to absorb the extra cost and move on to the next item. You don't want to cancel many orders at all. eBay will frown on that. Especially with a new account. When you are checking out with your label, it always says "buyer selected." Even if you only had one choice for them, it'll put that message. Just take your time. And, if you make mistakes at the beginning of your journey, don't beat yourself up. Overall, even mistakes add up to a pretty cheap lesson. You can do this.

@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
Most of the time, you don't have to do much at all. Returns happen in any business. First, don't let it soak into you. If you let a return bother you it doesn't help and it distracts you from being productive with the rest of your business. Second, respond to the customer. Let them know that you appreciate them letting you know it didn't work out for them and to let you know if they need assistance. Don't do partial returns unless you are 100% positive it isn't a scam (or it's truly not worth your time to have them return it). Let them know it'll be refunded as soon as you get it back. Most of that, eBay will do automatically. If it isn't automatic, eBay will let you know what you need to do. I hope that helps!
@brunildagautier9309Ай бұрын
I am new on EBay and it’s scary. Your videos are amazing and they encourage me so much. I just started a week ago to follow your videos. I love how you teach!! I have tried to change it but I have not been able to delete it and make it Personal EBay Selling. Is that a problem?
@TheChaChingKingАй бұрын
It really shouldn't matter. eBay doesn't allow you to switch from a business account to a personal account. You can go the other way, but you can't go back. You can, however, create a new account. eBay doesn't mind you having multiple accounts as long as new accounts weren't created to circumvent a ban or something.

LOL Your comment made me laugh. :-) I think sourcing is a more important skill than all the listing speed in the world. 5 years ago I couldn't imagine making what we make today. But, we are genuinely better at buying higher priced items than we used to be. I never wanted to list 20 or 30 items in a day. We want to list a handful of high ROI items a day. I do think it's something that can be learned and improved on.

@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
I have always focused on improving my return on investment by raising my average sale price. In other words, I've focused on finding better and better stuff. The biggest expense is always shipping. A two pound item that cost $10 to ship costs the same whether the item sold for $20 or $80. But it's a much smaller percentage of the $80 item. I'm far better at sourcing now than I was when I began.

I used to sell on eBay. Tonight I entered an item and it was like eBay was forcing me to use the bid option. So I had to enter a large bid to start I did but want to use the feature. It was not chosen. Do they do that now set it up on bid
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
It defaults to auction, but it does allow you to do a buy it now. You have to change it when you list. If you have already created the listing as an auction, it doesn't let you change it to a buy-it-now. You usually have to end it and relist.

List perfectly what membership level for a new person? For copying your listings?
@TheChaChingKing2 ай бұрын
The "Simple" plan is $29 a month. That's what I originally bought. I lost HUNDREDS of listings when eBay had a glitch about 5 years ago. We had to completely retake all of our photos. It was after that that I bought List Perfectly. It's been worth it just for the security of having all of my listings backed up. I have a link in my description that will save you 30% your first month. But, I'm sure you could find that same deal anywhere if you really want it. I just hate to see anyone spend any money until they know this is going to work for them.

@ Ya I was thinking of cross listing to poshmark . Is Inkfrog the same as List perfectly? I used inkfrog to cross over one eBay store to my new one. I guess I never thought of storing that info on the app makes good sense if eBay has glitches like that losing your listings.

I have been listing for over a year , sporadically and my sales are few and far between!! I watch you videos and love them but……. What am i doing wrong???
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
eBay is all about consistency. That said, if you list something that everyone is chasing, it'll sell even if it's the only thing you've listed. For example, if I list some used Levi's jeans, they will probably sit a while if they even show up in search. But if I list a 1991 Swarovski Annual ornament, it will probably sell in minutes for 2-3 thousand dollars. So, some of the issue is what you are listing, some of it is the inconsistency of your listing, and some of it may be your pricing/shipping. If you don't have really sought-after items, you have to list quite a bit of stuff in order to make consistent sales.

What kind of things do you sell?
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
I sell EVERYTHING! LOL Tomorrow I am listing vintage baseball pennants. This morning I listed a 1953 Outboard Motor Report that was presented to the National Production Authority. Last week we listed vintage clothes and vintage fishing lures. :-) So, we list things that we like and that we think will sell well. We try to pick things that are easy to store and ship. We like items that we can buy inexpensively and that still have a high return on investment.

I love how open & honest you are about your business. I started ebay back in its infancy. I was out of it forabout 5 years due to health problems but now I've got the bug again. The biggest thing for me to get use to is providing shipping cost up front. And I've had to adjust the items I sell as in my area the sourcing is limited more now.

Shipping is still a new seller's biggest mental hurdle. But it's one that people can get over with just a little experience.

How do you contact eBay if you have a question about a payout they sent me?

I go through eBay for Business on Facebook 99% of the time. I find them to be very helpful.

Scott, can you sell items on ebay without having a store? And how do you "pay" yourself and determine how much is yours and how much goes back into "sourcing "?
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
You do not need a store to sell on eBay. I have two accounts. One with a store that I've had since 99. And, another that I use to test with and make KZbin videos. It does not have a store subscription. As far as pay goes, all of the net proceeds from eBay are deposited into our business banking account. I take my pay from there.

Is there a difference btw personal eBay vs business eBay when I first begin?
@TheChaChingKingАй бұрын
Not right now...in the US. eBay rolled out some things in the UK which made it very important over there. Basically, they changed to a lower fee system for personal accounts. But, they also started forcing people onto business accounts if they were actively selling. Right now, in the US, it doesn't matter. You can sell without any issues on a personal account. As far as eBay is concerned, there's not enough difference for it to matter when starting out. eBay still has to report revenue generated over $600 to the IRS either way.

I think the community was just smaller then. I practically knew ever person in the US who was buying and selling mesquite. If I didn't know them, It seemed like we both knew someone in common. The entire internet has exploded in the 25 years since I started. The community is no longer able to run on a promise and a handshake.

USPS telling me that the envelope has to bend to get through the machine or that it could break going through the machine if it is rigid, therefore, I would have to pay more to ship it was the biggest load of crap I got from USPS. I learned that if you have your local mail lady/man pick up your packages from your house when they drop off your mail every day (which you can do. I do it every single day. They even pick up the large packages and boxes I put on my front porch for them. I worked out a method with my mail lady and she knows that if I put a red magnet on my mailbox then all the items I am shipping are in the mailbox, if there is a blue magnet on the mailbox then there are items needing to be shipped in the mailbox and on the front porch, and if it is a pink magnet then all of the items are on the front porch only) then you don’t have to deal with all that bull. Since I have started having my mail lady pick up all of my packages and envelopes from the house, not once have I had an envelope or package returned, damaged, upcharged, or not make it to the buyer exactly like I mailed it. Don’t get me wrong, the machine could tear an envelope that has bumps or hard lumps in it but she will take it and mail it anyway and without you having to pay more. I have also never had an envelope that was rigid be damaged. I’ve seen it happen to others but it was rare.
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
You've got a great carrier and system set up. We don't have house-to-house service in my area. But, it's not a big deal. Our post office is actually awesome. The envelope we were trying to mail these in was jut a regular letter envelope. LOL We had no idea. But, we use stiff envelopes for things like patches and stickers all the time, too.
@bhouchins0510 ай бұрын
@@TheChaChingKing I encountered the same problem because I ship a bunch of sports cards sometimes. Depending on the person working that day, the protective covers on the cards made the plain envelopes I shipped some in too rigid for the machine. According to certain people the covers would also too stiff to bend around the corners of the machine. So just like y’all, they wanted to charge me more to ship them sometimes. It was never an issue until two certain people were working the counter and I never had a problem with my envelopes. Thankfully, using my neighborhood postal worker eliminated that issue. In y’all’s case I would have bought the tiny bubble wrap bags that are about 3in x 2in…put the bracelets in there and then in the envelope. That should have satisfied them…all depending on who it is though. And yes, I have a great postal service worker that services our neighborhood. She is awesome and we make sure to show her our appreciation in several different ways as often as we can. Thank y’all for the videos and allowing us to learn from y’all’s success and failures/mistakes. If it weren’t for my failures/mistakes then my business would not be anywhere close to where it is now

@@TheChaChingKing eg, I got a defect for case closed without seller resolution. Item didn't arrive and buyer communicated by opening a case and leaving me a neg. Open case blocks a seller from refunding; eBay has to do it. Then they imposed a defect for my not doing so. I appealed and got it removed but a little later it was reinstated as being correct. It WASN'T correct but I can't fight City Hall!
@TheChaChingKing10 ай бұрын
Wow...yeah...that's awful. I truly haven't had anything like that. I've had two times that stick out in my head where I believe eBay got it wrong. One was when they first began the GSP. The advised me to accept a refund from someone overseas and then said I lost the case because I had accepted the refund. LOL The other one was a buyer that claimed an item wasn't delivered even though time hadn't expired and eBay had said they would making allowances for delays in Christmas shipping. Then she was refunded. BUT, again, that's 2 out of 17,000 sales. It doesn't move the needle for me. BUT, I get it. I totally understand where you are coming from. For me, it almost always works out like it should. @@dennisferguson9129
