I'm coming to the party late but I love what you did! I really like the look of the ply's. Couldn't talk my wife into it for our kitchen 15 years ago. I would have gone with laminate on all the front of the doors and drawer fronts and especially the countertops for the sake of durability and cleaning. There's an outfit called Kerf Designs that does cabinetry like this. It's popular with Mid Century Mod remodels. Same concept.

Посмотрел. Раскачка в поодольном направлении есть? Особенно если сделать высотой под потолок? Там только плоскостная толщина фанеры держит. Что-то бы поперечное придумать ❤
@Aribabox15 күн бұрын
That's a great question! For this project, stability can be affected by two main factors: 1. Joint quality: Tighter joints between the shelves and spacer components create a more rigid structure. 2. Height: The taller the assembly, the more stress is placed on the bottom components, which increases the risk of wobble. You’re right that the plywood's thickness plays a big role. Adding some cross-bracing could definitely improve stability, especially for a floor-to-ceiling setup.

What plywood are you actually using? Is it same Baltic birch as laser cutters use?
@Aribabox15 күн бұрын
We use Baltic birch plywood, but not the type made specifically for laser cutting. That version uses a special glue to prevent reflecting laser beams, which isn’t necessary for our CNC projects.

How sturdy is it, would just a back board improve stability
@Aribabox15 күн бұрын
Considering the prototype was made from a 9 mm sheet, the shelf is surprisingly sturdy! The rigidity mostly depends on the quality of the half-lap joints between the shelves and spacer components. Adding a backboard could definitely improve stability, especially if you're planning to stack the shelves higher than 2 meters. In that case, some additional reinforcements would be a good idea.

What kind of bit do you use on your router ?
@Aribabox22 күн бұрын
We mostly use 3 mm (1/8-inch) straight flute bits for our projects, especially for plywood up to 15 mm thick. With the right settings - 3000-4000 mm/min feed rate and a spindle speed of 25,000 rpm - we can usually cut part contours in a single pass. For 15 mm sheets, though, we often use two passes for a cleaner finish.

It's a lot for a sanding block, I guess, but I love that it solves the tension problem. Seems like I always lose half or more of the sandpaper life because it gets a wrinkle in it somewhere. Very nice!
@Aribabox23 күн бұрын
Solving the tension issue was definitely our main focus here. It did end up a bit larger, but we’re happy it fits standard 4-inch wide sandpaper.

Ok this is an old video, maybe things have changed already, I would suggest ordering from a pinball machine supplier, flipper rubbers. if your flippers are a design close or near close to original flippers, their rubbers would fit perfectly. Then you won't need to use rubberbands.
@Aribabox24 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for the suggestion! When we designed the flippers, we aimed to keep them as close to the original as possible. You're absolutely right-using proper flipper rubbers from a pinball supplier would really enhance the experience. We'll definitely keep that in mind for future updates!

I don't understand how you have a CNC machine, but end up doing the edge round-overs and hole chamfers manually. Change the bit and rerun a profile path, then change the bit and run a drill path.
@Aribabox27 күн бұрын
That’s a great point, and I can see where you’re coming from. If we were making a batch of these boxes, your method would definitely make sense. However, for prototype work, doing the chamfers by hand is often quicker - there’s no need to swap tools mid-operation or set up for double-sided machining on some parts. That said, you bring up a valid consideration for streamlining the process in a production run.

The design is so sick, especially the top lid cutout that's accessible from top and bottom and is stackable. Cheers to that. I'd suggest differentiating between PH2, PH3 and PZ3 bits. Looks like you're using PH2 bit on yellow screws that are PZ2
@Aribabox29 күн бұрын
Glad you enjoyed the project! Thank you for the advice on the screwdriver bits. You're absolutely right - I should have matched the correct bit for each screw. I usually stick with Torx screws because they’re easier to work with and help avoid these mismatches, but I’ll definitely keep your tip in mind for future builds.
