I was actually just pondering this today! As I was making book covers for a couple of gratitude journals, I was thinking about how those skills handily transfer to cartonnage. It’s a leveling up of those same skills to a grander scale.

@ Loving it! Starting a new business and considering a copper-faced reception desk. Testing the idea of adding a laser-cut vinyl logo template, laquering the logo part, removing the vinyl template and antiquing everything except the laquered logo. No idea if it will work, but your tips have been invaluable!

Honestly I think almost every skill leads into another in some way. One specific example I can think of, is that one of the hobbies I've had since I was about 15, is making axe handles. The first time I had a go at hand crafting a longbow, I found the shaping and tooling so similar, that it came very naturally. I feel like once you have enough tool skills and eye for detail in enough disciplines, nothing really seems daunting any more.

I remember watching a video on "That Works" channel where their blacksmith, Ilya, was making a shield. While talking about the design, we was mentioning that same issue of working with a sheet of steel (how it flexes and warps under stress). His solution was to make it more rigid, not with framing, but by embossing a design into it. I understood, conceptually, how this would work, but i was incredibly amazed at how much it really did increase the stability of its structure! I wonder if you would ever find use for this in your work?
